The Epoch Times: GOP Blames Biden Admin for Releasing Alleged MS-13 Member Now Charged With Murder
GOP Blames Biden Admin for Releasing Alleged MS-13 Member Now Charged With Murder
An interim report released by House Republicans accuses the Biden administration of failing to enforce immigration law, which led to the sexual assault and murder of a 20-year-old autistic woman. The suspect, an illegal immigrant and MS-13 gang member, entered the US through Texas as an unaccompanied minor and was subsequently released into Maryland custody, then transferred to the custody of the Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement. The committee's investigation unearthed that the suspect was detained in El Salvador for involvement with MS-13, something that was not disclosed in his case file. The committee also criticized the Biden administration's open-borders policy and disregard for the safety of Americans.

The Epoch Times: 'La Bestia': The Train of Death
'La Bestia': The Train of Death
500,000 Central American migrants each year travel on a network of trains called “La Bestia” through Mexico trying to reach the U.S.-Mexico border, despite their dangerous reputation due to the high number of fatalities. Despite illegal, those desperate choose to ride La Bestia by jumping onto the side of freight cars or climbing on top of them, with potential kidnappings, murder, extortion and rape on board. To combat such atrocities, the Mexican government has implemented increased checkpoints and the private sector has tried speeding up the train to prevent migrants jumping on. However, both forces have managed to reduce ridership on La Bestia somewhat, with many choosing to use human smugglers or major highways to get to the US border instead.

This mindset is poisoning the world and may take over sooner than people think.

Rep. James Comer R-Ky. requests to meet with FBI Director Christopher Wray regarding subpoenaed documents related to the Biden family's business dealings, and discusses potential scenarios the committee could take if the FBI does not turn over the documents. Comer expressed one option of holding Wray in contempt of congress. The FBI did not turn over the document that was subpoenaed, prompting Comer and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, to request a meeting with Wray on May 16, which has not yet been scheduled.

McCarthy not optimistic about reaching debt limit deal on Tuesday
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy does not believe a debt limit deal will be reached as the US government is expected to run out of cash in nine days. Despite a meeting between McCarthy and President Biden on Monday, they have yet to find common ground, with Democrats insisting on raising the debt limit without preconditions and Republicans pushing for the Limit, Save, Grow Act to increase the federal borrowing limit by $1.5tn and slash spending. While both sides agree action is needed to reduce the deficit, they differ in how to do so.

National Review: The Return of the Losers
The Return of the Losers
Losing has become a mark of authenticity in Republican politics, especially among the GOP. Those who lose high-stakes elections are reconceptualized as victims of a rigged system, and their message resonates with core supporters. Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who lost her bid for the governor’s mansion, challenged the election results, alleging that widespread and deliberate misconduct compromised ballot printers at key polling places in her state. A judge has now ruled that Lake had not sufficiently substantiated her claims, but she remains popular with her core constituents and is poised to enter the race for the U.S. Senate in Arizona. Similar behavior is observed in Pennsylvania's Republican voters and is exemplified by loser candidates such as state senator Doug Mastriano and J. R. Majewski.

Karine Jean-Pierre of the White House refuses to comment on the travel advisory but proceeds to denounce "misguided" policies of Florida lawmakers, such as limiting the teaching of black history and attacking diversity and inclusion efforts. The White House promises to continue speaking out against discriminatory policies pushed by state leaders across the country, particularly extreme Republicans.

James Comer Calls For ‘Extreme Measures’ In Standoff With FBI Over Biden ‘Bribery’ Allegations
GOP lawmakers are trying to obtain a document that reportedly contains allegations of a criminal “bribery” scheme involving President Biden, but the FBI has not delivered it, resulting in discussions among lawmakers about how to escalate the fight. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is calling for “extreme measures” and has talked with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy about possibly holding FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress. GOP investigators say whistleblower disclosures indicate there is an unclassified form filled out by the FBI that describes an alleged influence peddling scheme involving Biden, dating back to his time as vice president, and a foreign national.

Senators Take Aim at Official Research That Supports Australia Not Going Nuclear
Australia’s CSIRO has been accused of producing “misleading” research on nuclear energy costs in a Senate inquiry discussing the country’s federal prohibition on nuclear energy development. Federal Labor Energy Minister Chris Bowen had cited the CSIRO’s 2019-20 GenCost report in claiming nuclear energy had the highest capital expenditure cost per kilowatt. However, Senators Holly Hughes, Matthew Canavan, and David Van argued the data was incomplete and “cherry picking” in its choice of technologies. A paper by the Energy Policy Institute of Australia found GenCost overstated nuclear generation costs and understated renewable energy adaptations to “firm” capacity.

New Montana Law Defines Female and Male Based on Reproductive Biology
Montana has passed a new law which defines ‘male’ and ‘female’ based on biology, not personal experience of gender. It specifies that male or female determined at birth are the only valid categories, and are determined by chromosomes, reproductive organs, and genitalia. Montana is the third US state to pass such legislation, along with Kansas and Tennessee. The law was met with opposition from Montana Legislative’s Democrat minority, who argued that it could see the state lose out on billions in federal funding.

The Epoch Times: Cross-Border Attack on Russia’s Belgorod Region ‘Blocked, Destroyed’: Moscow
Cross-Border Attack on Russia’s Belgorod Region ‘Blocked, Destroyed’: Moscow
The Ukrainian military carried out a cross-border attack in Russia’s western Belgorod region, which has been reportedly routed by Russian Defence Ministry. Moscow accused Ukraine of staging the attack with Ukrainian saboteurs, while Kyiv claims that the attack was staged by Russian nationalists opposed to the government of President Vladimir Putin. Belgorod shares a roughly 540-mile-long border with Ukraine. The attack was aimed at diverting attention from Ukraine’s recent loss of Bakhmut, a key transport hub in the eastern Donetsk region. Ukraine denies involvement in the recent cross-border attack on Belgorod. It was conducted by two armed Russian nationalist groups: the Liberty of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC). The RVC is reportedly composed of ethnic Russians fighting alongside Ukraine against Putin’s Russia. The group first claimed responsibility for a similar cross-border raid into Russia’s western Bryansk region.

Fox News: Over 100 former world leaders tell Biden to get tough on Iran as scrutiny mounts for lack of strategy
Over 100 former world leaders tell Biden to get tough on Iran as scrutiny mounts for lack of strategy
Former Vice President Mike Pence and 107 other former world leaders signed a letter to Joe Biden and Western leaders calling on them to adopt a tougher approach to Iran and recognise Iranian protesters demanding regime change with a desire for a secular and democratic republic. The letter condemns Iran's meddling in the Middle East and Europe and calls for blacklisting the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and holding regime officials accountable for their crimes. In addition, the letter highlights Iran's involvement in Russia's actions surrounding Ukraine, Iran's involvement in attempted terrorist attacks on European soil, its notorious execution of political prisoners in 1988, and the increasing violence against Iranians protesting against the regime.

The letter came after US lawmakers condemned Biden for not having a comprehensive strategy toward Iran and expressed bipartisan support for the Iranian people demonstrating against their government. Signatories of the letter included former British Prime Minister Liz Truss, former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and two former European Commission presidents, among dozens of other ex-heads of state. The letter also expressed support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran, a coalition of Iranian opposition groups, and its leader, Maryam Rajavi, who has called for democratic change.

Forbes: Environmental NGOs In The Global South: Saviors Of Humanity Or Predatory Special Interests?
Environmental NGOs In The Global South: Saviors Of Humanity Or Predatory Special Interests?
Greenpeace Russia has been labelled as "undesirable" by government authorities, leading to the closure of the environmental group. The authorities have accused Greenpeace of interfering in the country's internal affairs, financially supporting foreign agents, and posing a threat to the constitutional system and security of the Russian Federation. Greenpeace Russia has denied the accusations, stating that it works to ensure that people live in favorable environmental conditions. The closure follows the Indian government's decision in 2015 to ban Greenpeace India for "not complying with tax codes," a move that was criticized in the Western press.

Greenpeace is a well-funded NGO headquartered in Amsterdam that operates multilaterally, pushing for radical changes in behavior incompatible with the norms of modern industrial civilization in the third world. Western-funded environmental NGOs operating in the developing world's agenda is staunchly left-wing, promotes beliefs that are contrary to the interests of economic development and the world's poorest, and subverts constitutional democracy. Greenpeace's actions in India and the Soviet Union, where it has been found to interfere in domestic affairs and act as a threat to security, suggest they could be the worst enemies of the marginalised in the third world.

Over 3,000 Foreign Companies Escape UK's 'Dirty Money' Penalties
The UK government has failed to prosecute thousands of companies that have not complied with the country’s new anti-money laundering laws. Over 3,000 foreign businesses have not filed details on beneficial owners to the mandatory Register of Overseas Entities, but not one has been fined or prosecuted. Business Minister Kevin Hollinrake appeared before the Delegated Legislation Committee where the lack of action was described as “extraordinary”. The Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Act requires foreign companies to declare their beneficial owners on the new register which was designed to prevent Russian oligarchs and other kleptocrats from using UK land and property to launder “dirty money”.

Interest Grows in Orange County Foreign Trade Zone
Companies are showing interest in Orange County's foreign trade zone after marketing efforts were rekindled. One timber production company has applied to join the zone, while a food manufacturing company is considering making its space available as an approved storage center. Businesses in the zone can import and store goods and delay paying tariffs until the finished products leave the zone, receiving the benefit of reduced or exempted duties. The foreign trade zone allows for value-added manufacturing activities in the United States, and Orange County hopes to use it as an incentive to attract new manufacturing companies.

So You Think Money Is for Spending? We Need To Talk
Money is for managing first, then spending. Eating ingredients before baking a cake is foolish and unsatisfying, just as spending money that hasn't been managed is. Managing money means taking possession, having a plan, and directing it accordingly. Give away 10%, save 10%, and live on 80%. Managing money brings sanity and reason, and plugs money leaks.

The Hundredfamilies charity founder said Skana could have been prevented from killing Emily had mental health services monitored her properly.

Berra's 10 World Championships, three-time League MVP, and record for catching the only perfect game in World Series history are only overshadowed by his sizeable influence on American culture and phrases like "It Ain't Over Till It's Over" that have become ingrained in our lexicon beyond sports. The film doesn't delve into the conflict surrounding Berra's infamous feud with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, but it succeeds in showcasing how the short, humble, and crinkly-faced Berra became an institution and beloved figure in American life.

Open AI executives have warned of the need for better coordination in AI development to manage risks, noting that superintelligence could exceed expert human capability in the next ten years. They argue that "the systems we are concerned about will have power beyond any technology yet created." Elon Musk and Bill Gates have also warned of the impact of AI on the job market and society, calling for a temporary pause to the development of AI systems more powerful than Chat GPT-4.
