The Epoch Times: TikTok Sues Montana After State Bans App
Chinese-owned app TikTok has filed a lawsuit against Montana over its scheduled ban of the app from 1 January 2024, claiming the ban violates First Amendment rights of the company and its users and constitutes an encroachment upon matters that are the exclusive responsibility of the federal government. TikTok further dismisses assertions by Montana that the app is a security risk due to concerns that the Chinese government could gain access to data on TikTok users. Montana has said that this could threaten the privacy and safety of US citizens. The app, which has over 150 million US users, is particularly popular among teenagers.
Montana’s Senate Bill 419 states that concerns over corporate and international espionage by China constitute a national security threat. The legislation alleges that the Chinese Communist Party could exploit TikTok for corporate and international espionage, as well as for obtaining sensitive information such as the location data of public figures, journalists, and Chinese critics. Montana also cites concerns about TikTok’s failure to remove harmful content, including actions that could endanger the health and safety of minors, such as throwing objects at moving vehicles and self-harm. TikTok, which stores US user data in the US and erects safeguards to protect it, challenges allegations that it poses security risks. Five TikTok users from Montana recently filed a lawsuit in federal court, arguing that the ban violates their First Amendment rights.

The Epoch Times: NAACP Issues 'Travel Advisory' Against Florida Over Governor's Anti 'Woke' Agenda
NAACP issues travel advisory warning people to avoid Florida due to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’s campaign to stop “woke” and racially-charged diversity training and punish riotous behavior. The advisory includes various bills targeting Black Americans, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Florida Republicans have dismissed the warning, stating that Florida is experiencing record-breaking tourism and a large number of people moving to the state, despite an appeal from NAACP Chairman that Black people are devalued in the state. The advisory accuses Florida of attacking accurate Black history, voting rights, members of the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, women’s reproductive rights, and free speech.
Red State: BREAKING: U-Haul Crashes Through Barriers Near White House, Driver Detained, Nazi Flag Pulled From Truck
A U-Haul truck crashed through security barriers outside the White House in Washington, D.C. The driver has been detained and a Nazi swastika flag was found in the truck. The incident caused some nearby hotels and BLM Plaza to be evacuated or locked down.
Townhall: This Pride Stuff Isn't Healthy
Ethnic, race, gender, or sex pride never made sense to me. The idea of group pride never resonated with me, even as a kid. I recall receiving a book on 'Great Jews in Sports' for my bar mitzvah, and while I loved sports and identified as Jewish, the idea of ethnic pride was meaningless. This conviction only grew stronger in college when "black is beautiful" gained popularity. Group pride doesn't make sense to me, and every left-wing movement is totalitarian. What is there to be proud of about sexual orientation or identity? Pride movements demand celebration and are not movements for tolerance. Group shame must also accompany group pride.

Flag And Cross: The Legacy Of The Kinzua Viaduct And How It Served The Coal Mining Industry
The Kinzua Viaduct, the highest and longest railroad bridge in the world, was built in 1882 and operated until 1959. Tourists rode excursion trains over it in the 1980s, but safety concerns shut down the site in 2002. A tornado in 2003 caused most of the viaduct to collapse. However, the DCNR constructed a skywalk more than 200 feet above the valley floor, offering visitors a view of the toppled towers. The hiking trail to the bottom lets visitors see the site firsthand.
Flag And Cross: The Story Of The Old Man Of The Mountain Is What Many Have Not Known Outside Or Near New England
New Hampshire's iconic Old Man of the Mountain, a natural rock formation carved by Mother Nature that watched over Franconia Notch State Park for generations, lost its hold on the mountain in 2003 and collapsed into the valley below. Geologists attribute the collapse to the degradation of the granite over centuries, despite turnbuckles and rods installed years earlier to fight erosion. The Old Man of the Mountain Legacy Fund held a 20th-anniversary show to honor its memory and role in local culture, with Dartmouth College graduate student Matthew Maclay sharing his research on bedrock weathering rates and rockfall at Cannon Cliff.
The Old Man of the Mountain had been an icon for the region, inspiring artists and writers over the years and even playing a significant part in a long-passed-down love story from the Abenaki, an Indigenous people from the northeastern U.S. and Canada. The legend tells a story of a man named Nis Kizos who met a Haudenosaunee woman at the Kchi Mahadin, or the Great Gathering, where they fell in love. The couple lived together on a mountain, but when Tarlo had to return to her village to help the sick, Nis Kizos promised to stay to guide her back. When she failed to return, Nis Kizos's face was said to have been carved into the mountain, where it remained until it collapsed in 2003.

The Epoch Times: Biden White House Endorses Republican Bill Cracking Down on Fentanyl
President Joe Biden's administration supports a bill proposed by Congressman Morgan Griffith that would more tightly regulate fentanyl by making it a Schedule I narcotic. The Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act would permanently list fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I narcotics, and the act would also simplify the scheduling process for researchers studying controlled substances. The DEA defines Schedule I narcotics as those with a high potential for abuse and no currently accepted medical use. Griffith and Congressman Bob Latta introduced the HALT Fentanyl Act in December 2021, and the bill has gained support from the White House. Fentanyl's potency makes it popular as an adulterant in other drug substances, resulting in increased potential for deadly overdoses, as seen in the US's high recorded number of drug overdose deaths in 2021.

The Epoch Times: Former College Student Charged in California Stabbings to Get Psychiatric Exam
Former UC Davis student Carlos Dominguez, charged with two stabbings and an attempted murder, will undergo a psychiatric review after his lawyer told Yolo County Superior Court that Dominguez is not competent to stand trial. The motive behind the attacks, which left two people dead, is yet to be disclosed but the Woodland community was shaken and businesses closed early as a result. Police were able to catch Dominguez after he was spotted in clothes recognisable from the third stabbing by more than a dozen people. Dominguez will attend a competency hearing in June.
The Epoch Times: Former Florida Deputy Charged With Failing to Confront Parkland Shooter Says He’s Eager for Trial
Former Broward County sheriff's deputy Scot Peterson, charged with failing to confront the gunman who murdered 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, is "looking forward" to his trial. Peterson says he thought the shots fired by Nikolas Cruz were coming from outside the three-story classroom building. He is charged with child neglect and culpable negligence and will face a jury starting May 31. He could serve nearly a century in prison if convicted and is out on bail. Peterson's attorney says there are 22 defense witnesses who thought the shots were coming from somewhere other than inside the building.
