The Economist: Greece’s prime minister defies the polls to trounce the opposition
Greece’s prime minister defies the polls to trounce the opposition
Greece's ruling New Democracy party wins election, but fails to secure an outright majority. Another election will likely be held, as the moderate socialist party, Pasok, has ruled out joining a coalition government. The result puts Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in pole position to win a second term.

A new report shows Russia's army tactics are improving, but Ukraine could still beat it. Fears about the reactors at Zaporizhia continue to mount, as Russia is not looking after Europe's largest nuclear-energy site very well. Supporting Ukraine has beneficial effects for Italy's Giorgia Meloni, as it helps blunt criticism of her domestic agenda.

The Epoch Times: Government Backflip Means Polluters Not Held To Account: Greens
Government Backflip Means Polluters Not Held To Account: Greens
The Australian government is allowing a temporary reprieve on exporting plastic waste overseas to be recycled, however, the Australian Greens are decrying the move as a backstep that allows plastic producers to get away with not cleaning up their mess. Previously, Australia sent much of its plastic waste overseas to China for recycling, but this ended in 2018 when China stopped accepting solid waste. The Greens want the government to mandate national packaging targets and enforce them with laws and binding regulations. The Australian government is investing around a quarter of a billion dollars in recycling facilities, part of which includes a $60 million investment for hard-to-recycle plastics.

Euromaidan Press: Russia creating new “elite” ground attack aviation group for Ukraine operations – UK intel
Russia creating new “elite” ground attack aviation group for Ukraine operations – UK intel
Russia is reportedly creating a new "elite" attack aviation group called "Shtorm" that will consist of fighter-bombers and attack helicopters to operate over Ukraine. The move is believed to be due to dissatisfaction with the performance of their regular air force squadrons in conducting airstrikes on Ukrainian lines. The new group will have a primary role in ground attack missions and will likely attract highly skilled and motivated pilots through large pay incentives and recruitment of retired aviators.

The Epoch Times: China's Xi Holds Central Asia Summit, Attempting to Challenge G-7: Analysts
China's Xi Holds Central Asia Summit, Attempting to Challenge G-7: Analysts
China hosted a Central Asia Summit in Xi’an, one day before the G-7 Summit in Japan’s Hiroshima. Xi Jinping met with heads of state from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to strengthen ties with these former Soviet republics, as Russia’s influence is weakened by its war efforts in Ukraine. Xi’an, the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, was chosen to hold the summit as a challenge to the G-7. Central Asia is a strategic passage for Beijing and analysts say that these countries are looking at China as their new economic and trade source.

Although China’s investments in Central Asia are causing criticism domestically, these countries are benefiting from China’s energy procurement capacity and investment efforts. The Chinese leader also announced $3.8 billion in financing support and grants to Central Asian countries. However, China’s ties with Central Asia are not comparable to the Western democratic alliance of the G-7. Europe and the US are changing their China policies amidst China’s increasing aggression, and the G-7 leaders discussed the risks posed by the CCP, including human rights record, military activities in the South China Sea, Taiwan, and coercion in the East and South China Seas.

Forbes: Serie A’s Top-Four Race Intensifies Ahead Of Juventus Verdict
Serie A’s Top-Four Race Intensifies Ahead Of Juventus Verdict
Italian soccer fans are eagerly watching the race for a top-four spot in Serie A. The verdict of an investigation into Juventus's financial practices could result in a points deduction, affecting their standings and the league's race for a top-four finish. Lazio are in third place, thanks to a solid defense and an entertaining playing style, with a return to Europe's grandest soccer stage almost certain.

While Inter Milan fell to fourth place after losing to Serie A champions Napoli and must secure a top-four finish, they are also on track to play in the Coppa Italia final and the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City. AC Milan's season will be an 8/10 grade if they can qualify for the Champions League, but their hopes depend on Juventus's potential points deduction.
