National Review: The Corner: Joe Biden Is Easily Goaded into Lawlessness
The Corner: Joe Biden Is Easily Goaded into Lawlessness
President Biden has been influenced by campaigns of emotional manipulation, moral blackmail, and peer pressure from progressive allies, resulting in a change of heart on the constitutionality of the 14th Amendment option and other legal theories. Biden's left flank has become his primary tormentor, not Trump or the GOP. Biden has succumbed to pressure to look at the 14th Amendment option for loopholes that constitutional jurisprudence has overlooked and to test the proposition of forgiving federal student loan debt held by borrowers. Progressives are the driving force behind these campaigns to circumvent congressional action, and Biden has obligingly followed their lead.

The source of the image has not yet been determined, but the incident is a reminder of the dangers of AI-generated misinformation, including deepfakes. The Biden Administration has unveiled a $140 million plan to evaluate AI technology and drive responsible innovation, noting potential risks that could come with the technology.

The Epoch Times: McCarthy Frustrated With Biden's Delays on Debt Issue, Says Excessive Spending Must Stop
McCarthy Frustrated With Biden's Delays on Debt Issue, Says Excessive Spending Must Stop
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) stated that Democrats need to stop their addiction to spending as negotiations with President Joe Biden over increasing the US debt ceiling continue. McCarthy has been pushing for Congress to agree to cut federal discretionary spending, with the Republicans already passing the Limit, Save, Grow Act in April, which attached a number of other conditions to an increase in the debt limit. The act included tightening work requirements for some beneficiaries of Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), clawing back unspent COVID-19 relief funds, and loosening permitting requirements on drilling for oil and gas. McCarthy’s comments suggest that spending cuts are the most critical issue for Republicans in negotiations.

McCarthy is frustrated with the president's delayed entry into talks, which he stated has created unnecessary urgency. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned that the nation would reach the debt ceiling on or shortly after June 1 unless Congress increases it. McCarthy believes a default can be avoided as the Senate could take up their bill if necessary, but the Senate is in recess until May 30, leaving little time for them to act on either a potential Biden-McCarthy proposal or the Limit, Save, Grow Act. Despite the urgency of the deadline, McCarthy is confident that there will be no default on the national debt. The two will continue talks to resolve the issue.

Red State: Russia and the Media Team up to Target Trump for Russia Hoax, Part 2
Russia and the Media Team up to Target Trump for Russia Hoax, Part 2
Special Counsel John Durham released an official report on the Russia Hoax, revealing that the Clinton campaign had colluded with the FBI, intelligence officials, and media figures to mainstream the fraudulent Steele Dossier into national conversations in order to harass President Trump. In response, Russia updated its banned list and added 500 new names, including senior Biden-appointed officials, Senators Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and former US President Barack Obama; this move has effectively set the stage for the Russia Hoax, Part 2.

The Russian Foreign Ministry posted an updated list of 963 US citizens who are permanently banned from entering the country, including high-ranking officials involved in the persecution of those involved in the January 6 incident. Notably, President Trump and his sons were not included in the ban; rather, senior Biden-appointed officials, high-ranking officials, comedians, heads of media organizations, and several governors were included. Some speculate that Russia's motive is to influence the 2024 US presidential election by naming Trump's enemies as persona non grata and that this move has paved the way for the Russia Hoax, Part 2.

Major Changes Coming to Canada's Federal Election Map by 2024, Says Chief Electoral Officer
Elections Canada plans to redistribute federal ridings' boundaries in 2024. The changes would see the Toronto area lose a seat and Alberta gain three and British Columbia gain one. If an election is called before the new map is implemented, it would take place under the old boundaries. The changes follow a study of federal seat redistribution under the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act, which will increase the number of seats in the House of Commons from 338 to 343. Elections Canada will also introduce a pilot plan to introduce an electronic voting list for federal elections.

Fox News: NAACP president says Democrats must get ‘rid’ of DeSantis ‘once and for all’
NAACP president says Democrats must get ‘rid’ of DeSantis ‘once and for all’
NAACP President Derrick Johnson calls for Democrats to "get rid" of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election, citing DeSantis' "all-out attack on Black Americans" and other minority groups as the motivation behind the NAACP's recently issued formal travel advisory for the state of Florida. Johnson believes that "the othering we have seen, first by Trump, now by [DeSantis], is not only un-American, it’s dangerous," and the NAACP is working to "change the political landscape" in preparation for the next election. The advisory was approved by the NAACP board of directors and cites various bills signed into law by DeSantis, including Florida's constitutional carry law, restrictions on abortion access, and a ban on funding for DEI programs at Florida public universities.

Tim Scott takes swipe at Trump in official presidential campaign launch: 'Hope' over 'grievance'
Republican Sen. Tim Scott declared his candidacy for president at his alma matter in North Charleston, South Carolina. He becomes the latest contender to officially enter the emerging race for his party's presidential nomination. Scott emphasized his optimistic, positive message anchored in conservatism and asked, "victimhood or victory? Grievance or greatness?" His unique life story is used to take aim at the Democrats, but the senator must face questions on whether there's an appetite among Republican presidential primary voters for his optimistic message. Scott is currently polling behind former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who are challenging for the GOP nomination.

Despite Scott's conservative credentials, he faces an uphill battle in a crowded field that still revolves around former President Donald Trump.

Greek conservatives hammer leftists in pivotal European election: 'Political earthquake'
Greece's ruling New Democracy Party surpassed expectations in the country's elections, securing 40.8% of the vote. Incumbent Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is now positioned to form a majority government in the June 25 elections. The conservative party's results are well ahead of its primary rival Syriza's 20.1% of the vote. The left-wing parties suffered a blow and vowed to recalibrate their strategy ahead of the final election in June. The election result indicates that Greece is more of a center-right country.

Fox News: Two dozen Republicans call on Biden to disavow John Kerry's remarks targeting food production
Two dozen Republicans call on Biden to disavow John Kerry's remarks targeting food production
A group of House Republicans are calling on President Biden and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to disavow John Kerry's recent comments targeting food emissions. Kerry lamented that the agriculture industry has a large carbon footprint, calling for "innovation." The Republicans argue that Kerry's comments are a slap in the face to hardworking agriculture producers who sustainably produce food.

At a climate summit, Kerry stated that "net-zero" energy goals were impossible without addressing greenhouse gas emissions from the agriculture sector. The agriculture industry creates 33% of the world's total carbon emissions, he warned. While the global food system generates about 18 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually—the equivalent of 34% of total worldwide emissions, American agriculture accounts for just 1.4% of global emissions, the Republicans note. They highlight that US farmers and ranchers make responsible efforts to feed, clothe, and fuel the world, and that anything short of condemning Kerry's remarks would be unacceptable.

Fox News: Sen. Tom Carper will not seek 2024 re-election, opening up Delaware seat
Sen. Tom Carper will not seek 2024 re-election, opening up Delaware seat
Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., will not seek re-election in 2024, after serving four terms as a Delaware senator. His retirement may cause a pitched battle among Democrats to win the party's primary for the deep blue seat. Carper indicated support for Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del., but did not say whether she plans to run.

A total of 34 Senate seats, 20 currently held by Democrats, 11 currently held by Republicans and three currently held by independents, will be up for grabs in the next cycle. Carper's retirement does not present a major risk of flipping the seat. Democrats will need to defend 23 of the 34 seats to maintain their majority in the legislative body.

The Epoch Times: Tim Scott Formally Launches 2024 Presidential Bid
Tim Scott Formally Launches 2024 Presidential Bid
South Carolina Senator Tim Scott officially launched his bid for the presidency on May 22, joining an already crowded field that includes President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Despite the competition, Scott already has the endorsement of Senate Minority Whip John Thune, who called him “the real deal” and “a great president of the United States.” Scott’s campaign slogan, “Faith in America,” highlights the importance of his optimistic approach, a quality that many supporters find appealing.

In his announcement, Scott spoke about his ascent from poverty and his position as a black conservative, stating that he poses a challenge to the Democrats’ narrative. Notably, he contrasted himself with President Joe Biden, calling him “weak” and accusing him of leading a nation in “retreat.” Voters who attended the event were interested in Scott, but some were still “testing the waters” to see where he stands, while others were already committed based on his strong positions on issues such as national security and school choice.

Target is selling LGBTQ-friendly clothing for children, including shirts with slogans like "TRANS PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS EXIST!" and a swimsuit for boys that can be "tuck-friendly." This introduces complex sexual and gender concepts to young children who are not yet able to grapple with them. It also sends a toxic subliminal message that their gender isn't perfect and should change. Target's promotion of leftist propaganda is encouraging children to entertain the idea of gender fluidity or sexuality before they are ready, which could produce irreversible damage to their bodies and minds.

The Epoch Times: Beware of Combining These Common Over-the-Counter Medications
Beware of Combining These Common Over-the-Counter Medications
Approximately 70% of Americans take over-the-counter (OTC) medications to treat minor illnesses. However, OTC medications come with risks, and a study found that 26,735 people in the United States went to the emergency room due to harm caused by taking OTC cough and cold medications. Inaccurate self-diagnosis and potentially dangerous OTC drug combinations are major causes of harm.

It's vital to read drug labels and thoroughly understand OTC medications' potential risks. OTC cold and flu medications may contain acetaminophen, one of the most widely used pain and fever relievers, but it may lead to dangerous (and sometimes deadly) side effects. NSAIDs are also commonly used but can cause serious stomach, kidney, and heart problems. Children, pregnant women, and older adults are more vulnerable to OTC risks and should consult their doctor before taking any medication.

Why Can Humans Smell Rain Better Than Sharks Can Smell Blood
The smell of rain, known as petrichor, comes from a chemical compound called geosmin produced by bacteria, algae, and fungi. Humans can detect geosmin in low concentrations compared to animals like sharks that can detect blood in the sea. Petrichor can improve mood, reduce stress, and evoke nostalgia. Rain can carry different scents depending on the surroundings and conditions, and atmospheric and environmental conditions can affect the smell of rain. For example, ozone can have a sweet smell and occurs naturally in the atmosphere, usually formed after lightning strikes.
