Washington Free Beacon: DeSantis Moves To Disqualify Judge in Disney Case Over Alleged Bias
Lawyers for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are seeking the disqualification of a federal judge overseeing a dispute between DeSantis and Walt Disney Co, citing potential partiality. DeSantis is being sued for allegedly targeting Disney for its leadership's political views and the judge, U.S. District Judge Mark Walker, was named as an example of state retaliation in separate cases involving the company. The lawsuit alleges DeSantis “weaponized” state government in retaliation for the company’s criticism of a law banning discussions of sexuality and gender identity with younger children .
National Review: Trump PAC Has Now Spent More Attacking DeSantis than Backing GOP Midterm Candidates
Former President Donald Trump's super PAC, MAGA Inc., has spent more money on attack ads targeting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis than it previously did on supporting Republican candidates in the 2022 midterms, with $15.3 million spent against DeSantis and only $1,500 on supporting Trump. Trump has launched a series of attacks against DeSantis, who is expected to enter the presidential race this week, with MAGA Inc. targeting DeSantis's past views on entitlement reform as a weakness heading into 2024. DeSantis political team press secretary Bryan Griffin said the figures make clear that Trump views DeSantis as a threat.
The Epoch Times: Biden, McCarthy Meeting Offers Hope of Deal on Debt Ceiling
President Biden and Speaker McCarthy will meet in person on May 22 to discuss resolving the debt ceiling crisis. Negotiations stalled over the weekend as both sides doubled down on their demands. Republicans passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act on April 26, which includes spending cuts and work requirements for some beneficiaries of Medicaid and SNAP, oil and gas drilling, and an increase in the debt ceiling. Democrats criticize the proposal as an effort to balance the budget on the working class while preserving Trump-era tax cuts for wealthy Americans. Hard-liners on both sides have issued calls to avoid compromise on their core objectives.
PJ Media: Hunter Biden Cries Poverty During Child-Support Hearing
Hunter Biden shamelessly declared himself destitute during a child-support hearing, seeking a reduction in his payment obligations to his daughter's mother. Hunter traveled to and from the hearing in Arkansas by a private jet owned by his associate and Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris, costing between $55,000 to $117,000. Hunter made a good living selling access and influence to his father during Joe Biden's vice presidency and had his first art show in 2021, which is believed to be an effort to conceal the selling of access to Joe Biden.
Fox News: British interior minister Braverman denies that she tried to pull strings after getting speeding ticket
UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman faced criticism after reports surfaced that she tried to arrange a private speed-awareness session instead of paying a fine and receiving demerits for a speeding ticket she received. The Prime Minister is considering whether to order a formal ethics investigation.

Red State: McCarthy Has Good News About Biden 'Bribery' Form the Whistleblower Was Talking About
The FBI has failed to comply with a subpoena to release the "bribery form" allegedly containing evidence of an illegal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national exchanging money for policy decisions. However, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer is determined to follow up with the FBI to obtain the document, despite the agency acting as though the deadline was only the beginning of "negotiations." Now, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is pressuring FBI Director Christopher Wray to comply with the subpoena, leading to a possible release of the document that could harm Biden's reputation and the Democrats' chances in 2024.

Forbes: A-10 Warplane Deployment Unlikely To Reassure U.S. Allies In The Persian Gulf
The US has sent A-10 Thunderbolt II attack planes to the Middle East to reassure allies of its commitment to security, replacing more advanced aircraft deployed to deter Russia and China. While Lt. Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich praised the new deployment as a "true capability" against the Iran threat, Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall told Congress that the Warthog's time has passed. Experts suggest the deployment will hardly deter Tehran, which has formidable air defenses that can counter the slow-flying Warthog. This move could inadvertently make allies more skeptical, as they have previously expressed concern about US commitment and have called for more advanced suport like F-22 Raptor stealth fighters and Patriot missile defense systems.
Despite reassurance efforts through the deployment of F-22s and Patriots, Iran's past attacks on Saudi Arabia and the UAE have left allies unconvinced of US commitment to regional security. Previous US statements have been seen as unhelpful, and the deployment of older A-10 aircraft is unlikely to achieve the desired effect. The fact that the air force is retiring this fleet by 2029 further convinces Arab Gulf states that America's priorities are shifting away from their region. Ultimately, allies are calling for more advanced support, since these weapons are uniquely suited to counter or evade Iran's aging fourth-generation jets and high-altitude air defenses, which the A-10 is wholly unsuitable to do.

American Thinker: Overseas, China springs the debt trap on loans to a dozen countries
China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) strategy has left 12 countries, including Pakistan, Kenya, Zambia, Laos, and Mongolia, facing economic instability under the weight of hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign loans. Paying back the debt is consuming an ever-greater portion of the tax-revenue, leaving these countries without resources to keep schools open or provide electricity. Borrowers have also been required to put cash in hidden escrow accounts, which push China to the front of the line of creditors to be paid. Many of these countries are devoting more than a third of government revenue to paying off foreign debt.
China's refusal to forgive debt and extreme secrecy about its loans' size and terms have kept multilateral lenders from stepping in to help. In past instances with such circumstances, big government lenders such as the US, Japan, and France would work out deals to forgive some debt, with each lender disclosing clearly what they were owed and on what terms. In contrast, China refused to join in multinational talks and insisted on confidentiality, prohibiting other countries from knowing the loan terms and if China had devised a way of muscling its way to the front of the repayment line. Many of these countries already have their maximum borrowing capacity or have defaulted.
The Epoch Times: Pakistan on the Brink of Collapse, CCP to Benefit
Pakistan is facing severe economic crises, political turmoil, terrorism, natural disasters, and hunger, exacerbated by the military arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The unemployment rate remains at 7 percent, while inflation is expected to reach a record high of 27.1 percent. Foreign currency reserves held at Pakistan’s central bank fell to $4.38 billion, barely enough to cover one month’s worth of imports, and imports have been trending downward since last summer. Pakistan may default on its foreign debt, and it may leave China as Pakistan’s only hope of securing additional loans, putting them deeper into Beijing’s orbit .
On May 9, Imran Khan was arrested on allegations of corruption, sparking protests that escalated into violent riots. Amid economic catastrophe, Khan's supporters attacked military and police officers, burning and looting police stations, vehicles, and government buildings. In an attempt to quell the rioting, the government blocked mobile internet service and social media to suppress posts against the government and coordination of protesters. Authorities have also announced that those arrested during the riots would be tried in a military court. Khan's arrest was deemed "unlawful," and he was granted bail; however, the military and police surrounded Khan's home two days later, fueling a new round of protests. Pakistan is at risk of defaulting if it does not find $35-$36 billion in external financing needs for the upcoming fiscal year, and over the next three years, Pakistan needs to repay $77.5 billion in external debt.
