The Epoch Times: US and Australia Establish Climate and Clean Energy as 'Third Pillar' of Alliance
Australia and the United States have announced that renewable energy and climate action will be a "central pillar" of their bilateral alliance, with an aim to expand clean energy supply chains, promote sustainable critical minerals supply, and develop emerging battery technologies and clean hydrogen markets in the Indo-Pacific. The two leaders also pledged to support Pacific island countries in their climate change mitigation efforts. US President Joe Biden additionally plans to propose that Australia be added as a domestic source in Title III of the Defense Production Act, which would facilitate the buying of Australian critical minerals and technologies.

Japan, which is dependent on coal imports, had previously expressed concerns about the NSW coal reservation scheme that risked cutting coal exports from Australia. The two countries also discussed collaboration in space and quantum technology.
