Fox News: University of Minnesota faces backlash over summer research program restricted to non-white applicants
The Equal Protection Project of the Legal Insurrection Foundation is urging the University of Minnesota (UMN) to change its application process for its summer internship programs. An advocacy organisation has called for the taxpayer-funded university to open applications up to all students, regardless of skin colour, after the UMN reportedly opened its paid undergraduate internship program for applications by only non-white students. The UMN's Multicultural Summer Research Opportunities Program (MSROP) is for 10 weeks and is open to undergraduate students of colour that work full-time with a faculty mentor on research projects. Successful students receive a $6,000 stipend for personal and research expenses.
