Newsbusters: Michael Steele, Who Wanted To Repeal Roe, Now Bemoans 'Criminalizing Women's Wombs'
Formerly conservative Michael Steele has taken on the role of reliable liberal mouthpiece on MSNBC's Morning Joe, recently echoing hosts' pro-abortion sentiments. Steele joined in describing abortion as "health care" and a necessary procedure for women's health. He even claimed that pro-lifers are "criminalizing the wombs of women," something he once campaigned against. Critics are unimpressed, calling it sad to see Steele so eagerly trying to please hosts and sponsors.
The Epoch Times: Justice Gorsuch Slams COVID Emergency Powers: ‘Greatest Intrusions on Civil Liberties' in ‘Peacetime History’
Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch warns of an intrusion into civil liberties caused by pandemic emergency decrees since the start of COVID-19 as the high court dismisses a suit on Title 42 as moot. Gorsuch wrote that emergency decrees ordering vaccine mandates and lockdowns issued by federal and state executive agencies resulted in an accumulation of power in those agencies, and accompanied the loss of liberties during the pandemic. This view shows the high court's vision of restoring a balance of power in the federal government more aligned with America's founders. Gorsuch’s warning came as the Supreme Court dismissed a case brought by Republican attorney generals to keep in place Title 42, the emergency measure that the Trump administration implemented in March 2020 as a reaction to COVID-19 pandemic.
American Thinker: Gavin Newsom's greenie dreams strangled in Calfornia's own red tape
California Governor Gavin Newsom is calling for an expedited government approval process for clean energy, transit, and other infrastructure projects. However, environmental groups including the Sierra Club have opposed modifying California's green policies, including its state environmental law. Newsom articulated a desire to expedite these projects as a means of saving money and time by cutting red tape, which can take years for projects to ever receive approval. He was not optimistic about being able to greenlight projects, including electric cars and green buildings, in light of the bureaucracy within the state.

National Review: Texas House Advances Bill Banning Minors from Sexually Explicit Performances
The Texas House has voted overwhelmingly in favour of a bill that prohibits minors from watching sexually explicit acts, including drag shows. The initial target of the legislation was drag shows; however, this was extended to cover any performances that had a "prurient interest in sex." Individuals who breach the law face fines of up to $10,000. In addition, performers could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a maximum of one year in jail or a $4,000 fine, or both. Similar legislation in other Republican-led state legislatures has been enacted to limit drag shows that minors attend, with some overthrown by judges on the grounds of an unconstitutional breach of citizens' civil liberties.
Breitbart: Hancock: Traditional Family 'Completely Fringe Within Conservative Party'
Former Conservative minister Matt Hancock has rejected the idea that the government should encourage traditional families as the building block of civilisation, calling it "offensive and wrong". Hancock has often expressed left-leaning views and has called for the Conservative Party to shift left to win elections. Conservative MP Danny Kruger suggested at a recent conference that traditional families, with a mother and father present, are the basis for a safe and successful society, but his remarks sparked outrage from some quarters. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak distanced himself from Kruger's comments.

Human Events: Ukrainian military official confirms Russian victory in Bakhmut
as Wagner head announces city has been taken
Russian mercenary Yevgeny Prigozhin, who heads the Wagner Group, claimed on Saturday that his forces had seized control over Bakhmut, causing some pushback from journalists and Ukrainian military spokespeople. Prigozhin claimed that his victory came at the cost of the near destruction of the city, which has been the site of fierce fighting for months. The city has been nicknamed "meat grinder" due to the high number of bloody battles that have raged in the area as Russian forces try to capture the area.
Breitbart: Dem Rep. Crow: Even with $3B in Extra Ukraine Money, 'We Have a Supply Chain Issue' and Can't Necessarily Provide More
Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) downplays the impact of the Department of Defense's overvaluation of aid sent to Ukraine by $3 billion. Crow explains that there is already a supply chain issue and that the excess money won't necessarily equate to more aid since they can only produce weapons so fast. Despite Department of Defense budget issues and audits, the provision of aid to Ukraine is not expected to be affected .

The Epoch Times: China’s Expanding Web of Overseas Bases
China's Project 141 aims to establish a worldwide network of military outposts in Equatorial Guinea, Djibouti, UAE, Cambodia, and Mozambique by 2030, including five overseas bases and 10 logistic support centers. According to the leaks, two outposts are under construction and the first operational base is in Djibouti, home to around 1,000 to 2,000 military personnel. China is also reportedly working on an “independent facility” at the Ream Naval Base in Cambodia. Additionally, China is establishing deepwater ports in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar as well as strengthening relations with Nigeria. The CCP appears to have changed its tune regarding the legality and legitimacy of overseas facilities as it strives to be a global superpower with a world-girdling presence.

The Epoch Times: China on Brink of 'Confidence Trap,' Warn Citigroup Analysts
China's economy is on the brink of a "confidence trap" as growth slows, making it difficult for the Chinese Communist Party to stimulate the economy using conventional methods. Citigroup economists warn that there is a persistent lack of confidence among consumers, homebuyers, corporates, and investors, which could become entrenched and self-fulfilling. Privately-owned firms in China, especially in the tech sector, are barely investing as the economy loses momentum and consumers reduce their spending on durable goods. Foreign investors are worried about weak imports, soft inflation, and a slowdown in manufacturing.
The decline in confidence is blamed on the after-effects of the Chinese Communist Party's draconian pandemic measures and the end of its zero-COVID policy last year. The CCP has vowed to support the economic recovery, promising to raise household income growth and supporting private businesses. However, private investments by foreign firms in China are decreasing, and rising tensions between the US and China are affecting their ability to operate. European tech companies are also rethinking their investment plans in China as the CCP aims to become self-reliant in the technology sector.
The Epoch Times: American Airlines and JetBlue Must Dissolve Their Partnership, Judge Rules
Federal judge in Boston rules American Airlines & JetBlue Airways must end their Northeast Alliance partnership on grounds that it is anti-competitive and harms customers. Justice Department sued to block the joint venture, arguing it would eliminate important competition and harm air travelers across the country. The court ultimately sided with the DOJ, arguing that by consolidating their operations in Boston and New York City, the two airlines violated the Sherman Act because their joint venture increased fares and reduced customer choice.

Fox News: Indiana Jones 5 receives tepid ovation at Cannes, gets early mixed reviews
The latest Indiana Jones installment, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," received a lukewarm reception at Cannes, with only a five-minute applause. Harrison Ford, however, was greeted with "thousands of fans" screaming his name and even a short montage of his film career upon his entrance to the festival. Some conservatives and critics also gave mixed reviews of the film, with Vanity Fair concluding that the latest "Indiana Jones" film was "not worthy of the whip."

The Epoch Times: Mangos Show Signs of Reducing IBD Symptoms and Potential Cancer Risk
New research has been published identifying that mangos could significantly improve the lives of those with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) by reducing symptoms of both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Mangos substantially contain gallotannins, a polyphenol associated with reducing inflammatory processes. A study tested the effects of mangos consumed in addition to prescribed drug treatment program on those with moderate cases of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Results demonstrated significant reduction in symptoms and biomarkers of inflammation; including a reduction in a molecule known for its relation to colon cancer growth and an increase of specific gut bacteria that is beneficial for sufferers of IBD.
The Epoch Times: South Korean Leader Vetoes Nursing Bill, Triggering Protest Among Nurses
South Korean nurses have protested against President Yoon Suk-yeol’s decision to veto a bill defining nurse roles and improving their working conditions, arguing that it clarified their responsibilities and protected them from excessive workloads. A law mandates that nurses follow medical doctors’ guidance, but roles are not specified, leading to compliance with doctors’ directions. The proposed new bill does not currently allow for nurses to open their own clinics; however, the International Council of Nurses issued a statement last year supporting the bill, arguing that legal protection is necessary for the protection of nurses and patients. The strike had limited impact, with some workers on holiday and major hospitals open as usual.

Fox News: Gorsuch gives scathing overview of COVID-era: ‘Fear and the desire for safety are powerful forces’
Neil Gorsuch, a Supreme Court Justice, used a statement in a recent lawsuit to criticize how civil liberties have been ignored during the COVID-19 era. He highlighted examples of numerous emergency orders that were introduced and stated that legislation is typically wiser than decisions announced on the fly. Furthermore, he suggested that officials reexamine the scope of emergency powers and stated that executive action can be necessary but rule by indefinite emergency edict risks leaving everyone with a hollow democracy and civil liberties.
The Epoch Times: Influenza Vaccine Fails to Stop Hospitalization and Death
The FluShot is now recommended for all individuals aged 6 months and older, but does it actually protect against hospitalization and death in older adults? A study of 83,146 individuals aged 65 years or older in Japan found that vaccination was associated with a lower incidence of influenza (HR 0.47), but the effectiveness declined significantly with time. This raises questions about the value of routine annual influenza vaccination in the elderly.

Fox News: NYC mayor’s plan to stop shoplifting by putting ‘social service kiosks’ in stores annihilated by critics
Conservatives on social media mocked New York City Mayor Eric Adams' plan to combat shoplifting in retail stores throughout the city. The Democrat mayor's proposal includes giving intervention programs for first-time offenders, providing de-escalation training for retail employees, establishing neighborhood retail watch groups to share theft information, and installing kiosks in stores to connect potential thieves with social service programs. Twitter users likened the plan to putting unruly children in a "time out corner" and argued that it would make the city more dangerous. Some called it a glorified version of the defund the police initiative, while others claimed that it would do nothing to stop crime.

The Blaze: Video: Killer whales are attacking boats; young orcas are following suit
Orcas, or killer whales, are attacking boats, and young calves are also joining in on the behavior. The orcas are doing this purposely, but the origin and motivation are unknown. The spike in aggression may have been caused by a "critical moment of agony," such as a collision with a boat, flipping a behavioral switch. Some researchers also suggest that the interaction with boats may be a form of play instead of aggression.
Red State: Because We Refuse to Save the Planet, Orcas Are Teaching Each Other to Sink European Boats
