NewsBusters Podcast: NBC Skips FBI Dissidents, Hypes Small-Town Right-Wingers
NBC Nightly News is accused of bias in story selection for skipping House GOP hearings on FBI whistleblowers and instead focusing on small-town right-wing school board members promoting a "dangerous" curriculum. The school board near Pikes Peak, Colorado is under scrutiny for teaching basic civics under a curriculum called "American Birthright" rather than left-wing indoctrination. The network is criticized for avoiding narratives that aren't helpful to Democrats.

'There's just no excuse': Lauren Boebert blasts John Fetterman's uber-casual attire
Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert criticized Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania for wearing casual attire, including a hoodie and shorts, at a press conference while other senators were dressed in suits and ties. Boebert and other critics deemed Fetterman's appearance as unprofessional and a disgrace for a sitting senator. Fetterman, a left-wing lawmaker, recently returned to the Senate after treatment for clinical depression but faced strong opposition from Boebert and others due to his casual outfit.

Fox News: Politico slammed for Casey DeSantis 'hit piece,' invokes Lady Macbeth 'trope' after blasting it for Dem wives
Politico slammed for Casey DeSantis 'hit piece,' invokes Lady Macbeth 'trope' after blasting it for Dem wives
Critics are slamming Politico for publishing a "hit piece" against Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis just days before her husband, Gov. Ron DeSantis, is set to launch his 2024 presidential bid. The article, titled "The Casey DeSantis Problem: ‘His Greatest Asset and His Greatest Liability,’” quotes anonymous GOP insiders who criticize her, as well as former Republicans who have become prominent Democrat allies. Some critics noted that Politico previously derided the "Lady Macbeth trope" during the 2022 midterms when it was used against the spouses of prominent Democrats like First Lady Jill Biden and Gisele Fetterman. Concerns remain that such attacks reinforce traditional gender roles and make any ambitious woman suspect.

Huntington Beach Considers Beefing Up Code for Public Nudity

The Epoch Times: HK Immigration to Refuse Overseas Lawyer's Working Visa in Relation to Jimmy Lai‘s NSL Trial
HK Immigration to Refuse Overseas Lawyer's Working Visa in Relation to Jimmy Lai‘s NSL Trial
Hong Kong’s High Court rejected the legal team of Jimmy Lai's application for judicial review to overturn the Committee for Safeguarding National Security’s "recommendation" to deny British lawyer Tim Owen a visa to attend Lai’s trial in September. The government wanted Owen out of Lai’s case, arguing "security risks" for involving foreign lawyers. Hong Kong’s Committee for Safeguarding National Security made a “recommendation” to immigration to deny Owen’s visa application in view of “national security risks.” The judge concluded that the relevant recommendation did not exceed the authority conferred by the HK NSL and the Director of Immigration did not exceed the authority conferred by the HK NSL.

Over 100 prominent publishers and editors— including 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureates Dmitry Muratov and Maria Ressa—signed a joint statement initiated by Reporters without Borders, calling for Jimmy Lai's immediate release. Lai, the founder of Apple Daily Newspaper and Next Digital media group, has multiple charges brought against him, including “collusion with foreign forces” under the city’s NSL, a law imposed by Beijing in June 2020. Last August, Lai was arrested by Hong Kong's national security police, after Apple Daily’s headquarters was raided.

Energy Tsar Board Axed as Ministers Clean up Transition
Australian energy ministers announced the creation of a new fit-for-purpose body to replace the Energy Security Board, which will enforce fair gas prices and support power supply through more electricity grid connections. The development of the Beetaloo Basin, one of Australia's energy-rich areas, and an estimated "carbon bomb" by activists, will be considered at a meeting of energy and climate ministers in Tasmania in July after being granted production licenses. The government will require companies applying for licenses to submit plans on achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Clean energy projects and investments, including solar-powered microgrids, will benefit remote and Indigenous communities. The mandatory gas code of conduct will be introduced in June.

Fox News: RSV vaccine for pregnant women inches closer to approval with FDA committee recommendation
RSV vaccine for pregnant women inches closer to approval with FDA committee recommendation
The FDA voted to recommend Pfizer's RSV vaccine for pregnant women, which may become the first available maternal immunisation to protect infants from the respiratory syncytial virus. The vaccine was deemed effective in preventing adverse effects of RSV in infants up to 6 months of age and the committee reviewed the results of Pfizer's Phase 3 clinical trial, which were published in The New England Journal of Medicine. While the recommendations are a step toward the vaccine's availability, official approval is still pending.

RSV causes mild cold-like symptoms in most kids, but can lead to severe respiratory conditions in some cases, even hospitalization. Infants younger than six months old may show symptoms including irritability, lethargy, decreased appetite, and pauses in breathing. According to data from the CDC, some 58,000 to 80,000 children five years of age and younger are hospitalized with an RSV infection. Pfizer's RSV vaccine when given to women during the second or third trimesters of pregnancy gives passive protection to the fetus, which then carries over to early infancy.

Mike Bohn, USC's athletic director, has resigned his position effective immediately.
