The Epoch Times: Trump Says 'What Took Place' at House Weaponization Panel's FBI Whistleblower Hearing 'Very Sad'
Former President Donald Trump responded to a House Judiciary Select Subcommittee hearing on FBI whistleblowers, calling it "very sad" and criticizing the "complete weaponization of Justice" in the United States. The three FBI agents-turned-whistleblowers testified about enduring significant abuse after sharing information with Congress. The hearing was disrupted by Democrats who repeatedly raised objections, taking issue with the fact that one of the suspended FBI agents had declined to talk to them before the hearing. The proceedings lasted around four hours, with intermittent debates over access to a transcript of the agent's prior remarks.
Red State: Riley Gaines Confronts Katie Porter Over Slanderous Remarks, Sends Her Running for the Hills

Spectator USA: Gavin Newsom could be the Democrats’ best 2024 hope
Gavin Newsom, California's governor, is positioning himself for a potential presidential run in 2024 despite low poll numbers and a problematic track record. He denies wanting to run, but has already moved $10 million to a new federal political action committee. Newsom's ethical lapses, budget deficits, and failed policies have critics saying he would be ineligible for public office in less permissive times. However, the Democratic Party's field of candidates for 2024 is weak, and Newsom hopes to appeal to African-American voters by positioning himself as a purveyor of reparations.
Foreign Policy: Lasso’s Last Resort
Ecuador's President Guillermo Lasso dissolved Congress and called for snap elections amid rising insecurity, slow post-pandemic recovery, and gridlock in Congress. Lasso struggles with paying back Ecuador's sovereign debt and faces opposition in changing labor code and enacting other reforms. Former President Rafael Correa's Correísmo movement and the Indigenous federation CONAIE are the two political groups capable of mobilizing mass protests against Lasso.
The United States new asylum rules have triggered major confusion throughout the region as non-profit legal services for immigrants announce a lawsuit. Many migrants are stuck in Mexico or thrown into uncertainty farther south with major policy changes impacting Latin American migrants moving northward. Asylum-seekers cannot apply unless they've applied and been rejected in another country along the way or get a scarce slot in a mobile app, with some unspecified exceptions. ACLU claims this is an effective ban on seeking asylum at the southwest border. The new measures have generated major confusion in countries throughout the hemisphere and may potentially create bottlenecks.
The Federalist: Republicans Should Not Bet On Ballot Harvesting
Republicans are considering deploying their own ballot-harvesting operations in response to Democrat efforts to change election laws and norms, resulting in an electoral world where only mail-in ballots matter. However, Republicans face a fatal disadvantage in this game as Democrats execute a much more complex, sophisticated, and expensive ballot-harvesting system. The Democrats' powerful election-industrial complex is made up of national and local institutions, including public-sector unions and urban-based activist organizations, that provide manpower for vote canvassing, voter registration, assistance in early voting, and ballot harvesting. Meanwhile, despite having little effort in organizing for collective action, Republicans must resist the Democrat's ballot harvesting efforts to prevent cheating, disenfranchisement of legitimate voters, corruption, and insecure elections in the future.

Fox News: Tampa man demands $3 million for every Black person in viral video: ‘We have to put white people on notice’
A Tampa resident demanded $3 million per person in reparations at a City Council meeting, saying that Black people only care about reparations and not other issues like police violence. Other states, such as California, have proposed reparations in various forms, including direct cash payments and housing aid.
Fox News: State of California and 5 major US cities to receive federal help to house the homeless
The Biden administration has launched the All Inside initiative, which aims to reduce homelessness by 25% by 2025. The plan will provide federal aid to unsheltered residents in five major US cities - Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, and the Phoenix metro area - and the state of California. Federal agencies will help the local governments obtain funding, establish a network of resources, and identify areas where regulations can be loosened to speed up securing housing. Philanthropic groups and private businesses are also invited to help. The White House said the program would build on the $2.5 billion already allocated to prevent homelessness under the administration's American Rescue Plan and $486 million in Department of Housing and Urban Development funding released earlier this year.

The Epoch Times: 13 Dead, Thousands Forced to Evacuate as Flash Flooding Hits Northern Italy
At least 13 people have died and thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes amid flooding across Italy’s northern Emilia-Romagna region that destroyed homes and agricultural land. The heavy rains triggered 300 landslides, caused 23 rivers to overflow, and destroyed 400 roads. Houses and businesses have been damaged, and around 20,000 people have been evacuated. The flooding destroyed over 5,000 farms and could cause €1bn ($1.08bn) of damage, according to Emilia-Romagna Gov. Stefano Bonaccini who has called for a state of emergency. Foreign Policy: Don’t Promise Ukraine NATO Membership Now
Experts suggest that NATO should provide Ukraine with a clear path towards membership or some other security guarantee, but expanding Western military assistance may be a more practical solution. The Bucharest summit declaration's promise of eventual membership granted to Ukraine and Georgia without conditions short-circuited the accession process and incentivized the Kremlin to create frozen conflicts in each. Talking about Ukraine's membership now could prolong the war and play into Vladimir Putin's misinformation campaign. Additionally, Ukraine may not be ready politically for NATO membership, so instead, NATO should focus on significantly expanding Western military assistance to help Ukraine win the war.
Fox News: Will Russian warlord challenge Putin in 2024 presidential election?
Yevgeny Prigozhin, commander of the Wagner mercenary squad known for brutality, may be Putin's chosen successor in the 2024 presidential election. Prigozhin has been critical of Putin and his top generals on Ukraine, causing a rift between the regular army and his fighters. His emergence on the top 10 media personalities list is approved by the Kremlin, and Prigozhin has hinted at his intentions. He may be dead, serve as the scapegoat, or become the next occupier of the Kremlin. This would be consistent with Putin's practice of using fear as a motivational tool, and the West may get an even more brutal Russian gangster to deal with.

The Epoch Times: Stocks Lifted to Month High by US Debt Ceiling Hopes
Global shares hit a one-month high on Friday amid hopes of a US debt ceiling deal that could prevent default. The MSCI’s broadest index of global shares was up 0.2 percent, hitting its strongest level since mid-April. The dollar was steady, having peaked earlier in the session, at its highest since March 20, with the euro falling to almost a two-month low. Democratic negotiators have told President Joe Biden they are making “steady progress” on lifting the US debt ceiling, which may cause the government to default on some debt from 1 June unless Congress votes to lift it. The worldwide status of US Treasury debt, a $23 trillion market viewed as providing the lowest-risk liquidity source, may come into question if no-an agreement is reached.
