National Review: Work Requirements Just Make Sense
Work Requirements Just Make Sense
The House Republicans' debt-limit bill would expand work requirements for SNAP and Medicaid only to able-bodied, working-age adults without dependents. Many Americans, including Biden as a senator, support work requirements for welfare, with a poll from February finding that 68% of Americans believe welfare recipients should be required to work or participate in job-training programs if they are able to. Despite this, progressives have criticized the GOP plan, with Senator Elizabeth Warren saying she cannot support a deal that is only about hurting people, and progressive economist Dean Baker likening making a debt-limit deal with Republicans on issues such as work requirements to "negotiating with terrorists."

CNN staffers continue undermining boss by touting Christiane Amanpour's blistering takedown of Trump town hall

Amanpour called out Licht by name and opposed the network's decision to broadcast the town hall in a live format with an unruly audience, and also criticized moderator Kaitlan Collins. CNN's left-wing media reporter Oliver Darcy made Amanpour's comments the lead story on his "Reliable Sources" newsletter, and several CNN anchors, correspondents, producers, and journalists shared or liked tweets in support of Amanpour.

National Review: The Wit and Resistance of Dotty & Soul
The Wit and Resistance of Dotty & Soul
Leslie Uggams stars in the comedy Dotty & Soul as Dorothy Jean Bolden, hired by an entrepreneur to salvage his autonomous automobile company after a race-based social media scandal. Dotty combines progressive ideology with box office formula, with Dotty being portrayed as a resourceful black woman by a white liberal apologist. Actress Uggams gives off an assured and matter-of-fact performance in contrast with the lighter tone of the comedy, with her character offering blunt observations of the current political climate.

National Review: Far-Left Groups Pressure White House to Redefine Antisemitism
Far-Left Groups Pressure White House to Redefine Antisemitism
Progressive groups are urging Joe Biden to exclude the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism from his forthcoming national antisemitism strategy. Representatives recently rejected the IHRA's definition and recommended alternatives such as the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism and the Nexus Document. These definitions permit disproportionate attention to Israel, claim that the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel is not necessarily antisemitic, permit comparing Israel to Nazi Germany and accept antisemitism when it presents itself under a certain guise. The administration's task force remains undecided on how to proceed.

Fox News: Alaska to reconsider 135-year sentence given to 14-year-old girl
Alaska to reconsider 135-year sentence given to 14-year-old girl
An Alaskan court will reassess the 135-year sentence given to the state’s youngest female convicted of murder. In 1986, Winona Fletcher was sentenced for her role in the murder of three people, which she committed when she was 14. She and her then-boyfriend, Cordell Boyd, killed three elderly people. The new court ruling comes following the reconsideration of the case due to the judge’s failure to consider Fletcher’s prospects for rehabilitation.

Due to advancements in understanding, it has been found that juveniles are different from adults for sentences regarding serious crimes, as they are more reckless, impulsive and take more risks. In Alaska, the reconsideration follows a series of US Supreme Court decisions over the past 18 years that have interpreted how juvenile offenders should be dealt with. The defendant, now aged 53, was a victim of child sex abuse and had become a sex worker by the age of 13. While acknowledging the terrible crimes committed by Winona Fletcher, the court ruled that the judge should have taken into account her youth and vulnerability, along with her prospects for rehabilitation, when determining her sentence.

2 Vermont State Troopers criminally charged for using beanbag shotgun round that injured a man
Two Vermont State Police troopers will be charged criminally for using a beanbag shotgun round in an incident where a man was hit in the head and fell, suffering severe injuries. The attorney general determined that the actions of Sergeant Ryan Wood and Trooper Zack Trocki were not justified, and charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment will be brought against them. The union representing the troopers said they should have been dealt with through the internal affairs process, not criminally.

Army officer away on active duty speaks out after squatter moved into Georgia home: 'Quite alarming'
Lt. Col. Dahlia Daure returned from active duty to find a squatter in her Georgia home whom she unsuccessfully tried to evict. Vincent Simon claimed to have a lease and paid $19,000 upfront for six months, but was later served with an intruder affidavit to vacate the DeKalb County, Georgia property. A weapon and drugs were found on Simon upon his arrest, whereby he was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance. Daure ultimately used Title 44 1130 to evict Simon; although police involvement wasn't possible due to the matter being a civil issue, the code allows civilians to do it themselves.

SCOTUS Roundup: Warhol Liable, Google and Twitter Not Terrorists
The Supreme Court cleared Twitter and YouTube of blame for ISIS terrorist attacks, bolstering content creation while restricting it. The Twitter case relates to Nawras Alassaf, murdered by ISIS in the 2017 Reina Discothèque bombing in Istanbul. The Alassaf family has tried to sue Facebook, YouTube and Twitter because ISIS used those social networks, but the cases were thrown out. In the same round of opinions, a court decided that Andy Warhol and Condé Nast violated the copyright of photographer Lynn Goldsmith, winning her case at the Supreme Court, which said the Warhol image and her original shared substantially the same commercial purpose. Justice Elena Kagan's impassioned defense of derivative art in her dissenting opinion recalled the threats to creativity under a standard set by the majority in Warhol vs. Goldsmith court case.
