Fox News: Border Patrol drops New Hampshire checkpoints near Canadian border
Border Patrol drops New Hampshire checkpoints near Canadian border
Border Patrol settles with ACLU over unconstitutional searches and seizures at Woodstock interior checkpoints in New Hampshire. The settlement bars federal agents from setting up any checkpoints in the town until Jan. 1, 2025. The decision arose from a 2017 checkpoint operation that led to the arrest of 16 people on minor drug possession charges, with no individual charged for crossing from Canada. The ACLU claimed border agents conducted illegal searches, leading to the arrest of U.S. citizens under state drug laws not related to immigration.

Brazil Convicts Ex-President Fernando Collor de Mello of Corruption
Former Brazilian President Fernando Collor de Mello has been convicted on corruption and money laundering charges by the Supreme Federal Tribunal. He was accused of receiving bribes to facilitate contracts with a former oil and gas subsidiary of state-run Petrobras from 2011 to 2014. The 73-year-old's presidency, which began in 1990, ended after just over two years, with his impeachment by the Brazilian Senate on corruption charges.

Washington Free Beacon: House Republicans Demand FBI Reopen Clinton Investigations
House Republicans Demand FBI Reopen Clinton Investigations
Republican House members are calling for the FBI to restart investigations into Bill and Hillary Clinton after the Durham report revealed that four probes into their potentially illegal activities were shut down in 2016. Rep. Matt Gaetz and former congressman Jason Chaffetz want the probes, three of which began in 2016, to be restarted over possible criminal activity by the Clinton Foundation. All the investigations were closed by senior FBI officials months before Clinton's 2016 defeat. The Durham report compared the FBI's investigation into Trump's alleged ties to Russia to its sluggish approach to Clinton's investigations.

Weekend Parting Shot: Dems Bring Their Usual Level of Dignity to the House Hearing
Representative Linda Sanchez embarrassed herself during a hearing for the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government by asking FBI whistleblower Marcus Allen to respond to a tweet about Nancy Pelosi that turned out to not be under his name. Despite knowing she had the wrong Marcus Allen, Sanchez kept talking and talking. The buffoonery was caught on camera and brought one to question her competency as a legislator.

This week's wine recommendation is the 2020 Fantini Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, an Italian wine that's fruity with a touch of bitterness from the grape skins, making it a great pair with savory dishes like mushrooms or lamb. Tasting notes aside, it's a great find for the price, running only around $11.00 to $13.00.

Fox News: Democrats target vulnerable GOP lawmakers for supporting McCarthy’s debt ceiling bill
Democrats target vulnerable GOP lawmakers for supporting McCarthy’s debt ceiling bill
The Democrats' Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has launched "GOPVotedToDefault.com," targeting moderate and vulnerable Republicans for supporting spending cuts outlined in Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s debt ceiling bill. The website names 31 Republican members of Congress and accuses them of seeking to cut funding for veterans, Social Security, and seniors’ healthcare. Despite Republican denials, Democrats have accused them of the same attack lines even as Congress and the White House are trying to find an agreement on how to raise the debt ceiling before the government is unable to pay its bills after June 1.

The DCCC’s new online pressure campaign comes just as Democrats are gathering signatures to make an end run around McCarthy to bring a clean debt limit increase to the floor — something every GOP lawmaker has spoken out against. However, the website has been slammed as an attack on the Republicans without substance. The NRCC, House GOP’s rival to the DCCC, accused Democrats of ignoring their "spending crisis" to launch a partisan online attack.

SPIKED: FBI Whistleblower Hearing Not Aired on ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, NPR... CNN Did It
ABC, CBS, and NBC did not report on a House Judiciary Committee hearing on FBI whistleblowers, which was organized by Republicans. Even the morning shows on these networks avoided coverage. Fox, PBS, and NPR covered the hearing, while CNN offered a brief mention. The New York Times and USA Today did not cover the hearing, instead focusing on debt-ceiling negotiations and progressive concerns about Biden. The Washington Post covered the hearing but framed it as the FBI revoking the security clearance of whistleblowers who had made allegations of abuse.

'Let the teachers teach, and shut up': Dem lawmaker gets nasty with voter who asked him to help pass parents' rights bill
A New Hampshire state representative, Tommy Hoyt, told a parent to "shut up" after the parent asked him to support a Parents' Bill of Rights in Education. The proposed legislation aimed to stop schools from withholding information about children from parents, including information regarding sex and gender. However, the bill received heavy opposition from teachers' unions, progressive activists, and left-leaning politicians who claimed that parents could pose a danger to their children. The bill was ultimately shot down in a 195-190 vote on Thursday.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has reported a "significant decline" in the total number of queries the FBI made into U.S. citizens between 2021 and 2022 under Section 702, due to changes in the bureau's systems, processes, and training.

The Epoch Times: Ron DeSantis Nears Presidential Candidacy Announcement Amid Speculation on Timing
Ron DeSantis Nears Presidential Candidacy Announcement Amid Speculation on Timing
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is rumored to be announcing his presidential candidacy to challenge former President Donald Trump and others for the 2024 Republican nomination. While anonymous sources claim he will file his federal campaign paperwork in Miami on May 25, a source close to him warns against trusting these reports entirely. DeSantis is expected to wait until after he signs the state budget and reviews starting legislative sessions before announcing his bid for presidency.

One reason DeSantis may be delaying his announcement relates to a bill that would clarify Florida's election law by stating the governor would not have to resign in order to run for president. This bill has not yet been transmitted to DeSantis for signing. The bill raises questions about whether he should resign before officially running for president, although the addition of this line exempts candidates for president or vice president from the resign-to-run requirement. DeSantis has not yet announced when he will get around to reviewing the bill as he has been preoccupied signing dozens of state bills.

A pregnant NYC woman was accused of racism during a dispute over a rented bike with young men on Twitter. Attorney Ben Crump accused her of endangering black men and labeled her a "Karen." However, the woman's attorney provided proof, including two receipts that show she paid for the bike, and claimed that a group of black teenagers robbed her bike. Her lawyer said he will sue several media outlets for defamation on her behalf. The woman, a physician's assistant at Bellevue Hospital, was placed on leave from her job after the video went viral.

The Corner: Sarah Comrie Deserves Her Good Name Back
A video circulated showing Sarah Comrie, a nurse at Bellevue Hospital in NYC, supposedly attempting to steal a Citi Bike rented by four black men. Benjamin Crump tweeted about it, likening her to white women who have endangered black men before. NewsOne even claimed she was like the murderer of Emmett Till. She was innocent. Comrie was in fact the victim of a viral hate hoax. NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue immediately suspended her without the chance to present her evidence, despite it being clear cut. The situation shows the intoxicating effect of narrative-confirming stories of panicky white women by urban progressives.

The area’s natural and scientific significance has been recognized by UNESCO, and ecological damage caused by the Russian invasion is estimated to cost over $46 billion. Ukraine has appealed to international environmental organizations to recognize Russia’s actions as illegal and activists around the world have joined hands to form a human chain calling for an investigation into violations of environmental protection laws by Russian troops.

Hungary is reportedly blocking €500 million in EU funds from the European Peace Facility (EPF) that were meant to be used to purchase weapons for Ukraine, in response to Ukraine's moves to weaken the Hungarian economy and accusations that the Hungarian OTP Bank aided Russian actions in Ukraine. Hungary has demanded guarantees from Brussels to ensure the EPF's global horizon instead of solely weaponizing Ukraine. Meanwhile, Britain and the Netherlands pledged to set up an international fighter jet coalition to support Ukraine, after Zelensky's diplomacy tour of western Europe to lobby for F-16s and other aircraft. Poland and Slovakia have already deployed Soviet-era fighter jets, but Ukraine is aiming for more advanced weaponry.

The Corner: Congress Not on Track to Improve Rail Safety
Transportation scholar Marc Scribner analyzes the Railway Safety Act being debated in Congress and finds it violates sound public policy principles and will not improve rail safety. Scribner suggests a better approach would be to align regulations with railroads' economic incentives and points to the success of past deregulation measures, which led to a 75% decline in train accident rates and an 85% decline in employee injuries. He advocates for automation as a way to further improve safety, including automated track inspection and operations. Scribner criticizes the Railway Safety Act as a sloppily written piece of legislation that invents a problem and proposes solutions unlikely to address it.
