Forbes: Pentagon Can Send Additional Military Aid To Ukraine After Spotting $3 Billion Accounting Error
Pentagon Can Send Additional Military Aid To Ukraine After Spotting $3 Billion Accounting Error
The Pentagon overestimated the cost of military aid to Ukraine by $3 billion due to an accounting error, freeing up extra funds for President Biden to send more weapons to Kyiv ahead of its summer counteroffensive. The error stems from Defense officials overvaluing the cost of items sent to Ukraine, counting the cost of replacing a weapon with a new one instead of its present value. While Congress was informed of the issue on Thursday, it was discovered almost two months ago. House Armed Services Committee Chair Mike Rogers and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul have criticized the delayed disclosure of the mistake.

The Epoch Times: Blinken Replacing Biden on Papua New Guinea Visit Amid Push to Counter Beijing
Blinken Replacing Biden on Papua New Guinea Visit Amid Push to Counter Beijing
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Papua New Guinea (PNG) instead of President Joe Biden, whose trip was canceled due to the United States debt limit talks, next week to counter China’s rising influence in the Pacific. Biden invited Marape to Washington for the second U.S.-Pacific summit later this year. Biden’s canceled trip would have marked the first by a sitting U.S. president to PNG.

Blinken would visit PNG from May 21 to 22 for talks with Pacific Islands Forum leaders on cooperation in addressing climate issues. It’s unclear whether Blinken will discuss the U.S.-PNG Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) during his visit. Washington said the DCA would serve as the foundational framework for enhancing security cooperation and bilateral relationship, including boosting the capacity of the PNG Defense Force and maintaining security in the Pacific region, once the agreement is finalized and signed.

SoftBank invested ¥7.4bn ($54.5m at the time) in Alibaba, which is now worth $71.5bn. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son first backed Alibaba with a $20m investment in 2000, and has held up to 34.4% of its stock in the past.

First Full-Size 3D Scan of Titanic Shows Shipwreck in New Light
Researchers have created the first full-size digital scan of the Titanic, mapping the entire shipwreck and surrounding 3-mile debris field in the North Atlantic using two remotely operated submersibles. The resulting data, including 715,000 images, is 10 times larger than any underwater 3D model before. A documentary on the project is expected to come out next year, while the technology will help people to interact with history in a unique way as "this quality of the scan will allow people in the future to walk through the Titanic themselves", according to Anthony Geffen, head of Atlantic Productions.

General Motors Recalls 668,000 SUVs Due to Anchor Bars That May Prevent Child Seats Being Installed
General Motors is recalling over 668,000 small SUVs in the US, including certain 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs, as the rear-seat lower anchor bars may have too much powder coating, making it difficult for owners to attach child seats to the anchors. No injuries or crashes have been reported, with GM asking owners to use seat belts instead of the latches while undergoing repairs.
