Fox News: FBI employees had security clearances revoked after speaking out against 'politicized rot': House report
FBI employees had security clearances revoked after speaking out against 'politicized rot': House report
Several current and former FBI employees have spoken out against the bureau's "abuses and misconduct" and allegedly faced "retaliatory conduct" including suspended security clearances or being punished without pay. Whistleblower testimony during a hearing on Thursday highlighted the FBI’s "purge" of conservative employees who held "different viewpoints," with the FBI being accused of having "weaponized federal law enforcement against everyday Americans." The House Judiciary Committee and Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government released an interim staff report revealing the alleged abuses and misconduct which included the FBI's handling of the Capitol riot and Domestic Violent Extremism cases.

Fox News: DeSantis foe Fried claims '800,000 migrants' leaving Florida will cripple economy: No one to pick 'fields'
DeSantis foe Fried claims '800,000 migrants' leaving Florida will cripple economy: No one to pick 'fields'
Florida Democratic Party chair Nikki Fried argued on an MSNBC show that illegal migrants are necessary for the state’s economy. Fried claimed that 800,000 migrants would leave Florida following new laws making it harder for them to enter, leaving the state struggling to find workers for its harvest fields and new construction projects. Fried further implied that Governor Ron DeSantis dislikes people who don't look or pray like him, while another Florida Democrat, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, argued that DeSantis’ plans would "devastate" the economy, tourism, construction, and agriculture.

Fox News: South Carolina becomes latest southern state to move toward near-total abortion ban
South Carolina becomes latest southern state to move toward near-total abortion ban
South Carolina is set to vote on a bill that would ban abortion after six weeks of pregnancy. If passed, the state's near-total abortion ban would add to the list of southern states with abortion restrictions. Virginia will become an outlier among the southern states as the only state without abortion restrictions if South Carolina's Senate votes in favor of the bill.

The Economist: Recep Tayyip Erdogan beats his challenger as Turkey votes
Recep Tayyip Erdogan beats his challenger as Turkey votes
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won 49.5% of the vote in the first round of the presidential election, while opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu won 44.9%, forcing the contest into a run-off on May 28th. Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AK) and the far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) also took a comfortable majority of 323 seats in Parliament. Kilicdaroglu will have to attract 3 million more voters to have any chance of winning the run-off. Erdogan deflected attention from Turkey's economy, which is plagued by 44% inflation, by focusing on identity politics, national pride and security.

National Review: Pence’s Path
Pence’s Path
Former Vice President Mike Pence's potential presidential run has caused confusion among Republicans, as he faces a damaged reputation due to former President Donald Trump's attacks and criticism from those looking for a break from Trump. However, Pence may have a chance of winning the Iowa caucus with an authentic appeal to Evangelical voters, and his substantial political résumé and ability to raise money for a viable campaign operation may help him build momentum. He could stake a claim to the group of Republicans open to renominating Trump or choosing someone else, and may also appeal to traditional Reaganite Republicans looking for a more three-legged-stool conservative candidate.

American Thinker: Fox News desperately needs new blood
Fox News desperately needs new blood
Fox News is reportedly moving Sean Hannity to the 8 PM time slot, but angry viewers are not satisfied and think they need a voice like Tucker Carlson's. The changes in the prime time lineup are not the solution and they need to find someone new who can provoke thoughts and amuse. Fox News needs to look for new talent if they want to win back their missing half of the audience.

Red State: President Biden: Race Baiter Extraordinaire
President Biden: Race Baiter Extraordinaire
President Biden delivered a commencement address at Howard University in which he focused on race relations. He claimed that white supremacy is the most dangerous terrorist threat to the US and that HBCUs face constant bomb threats. He also suggested that black history is being erased, racism is tearing us apart, and the GOP is trying to suppress black Americans' right to vote. Biden has a history of ginning up racial antipathy, but he is not the sole reason for the deterioration in race relations. The focus on identity politics and the left's constant race-baiting are also major culprits. This sad state of affairs must end for the US to truly achieve Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of a nation judged by character, not skin color.

Forbes: Telecoms Giant BT Will Cut 55,000 Jobs By 2030—And Replace Thousands Of Roles With AI
Telecoms Giant BT Will Cut 55,000 Jobs By 2030—And Replace Thousands Of Roles With AI
BT plans to cut 55,000 jobs by 2030, more than 40% of its workforce, in an effort to become leaner, with around 10,000 of those jobs expected to be replaced by AI. The cuts will affect both permanent and contractor staff, with the majority of customer service and network management roles to be automated. BT CEO Philip Jansen called generative AI "a huge leap forward" and said the company will "be a huge beneficiary of AI". The telecoms company is in the midst of a fibre rollout, but a telecom workers' union spokesperson called for subcontractors to bear the brunt of job cuts.

National Review: The EPA Strikes Back
The EPA Strikes Back
The EPA's proposed power-plant rule sets emission-reduction goals that will be virtually impossible for fossil-fuel power plants to attain, particularly natural-gas plants. Under this rule, new and existing fossil-fuel power plants would be required to achieve emissions reductions that might be possible using technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen produced from renewable sources, but such technologies have not been "adequately demonstrated" in large natural-gas power plants. The rule's feasibility is dubious, and its burdens fall mainly on the most efficient gas plants that use the exhaust from combustion turbines to power steam turbines. Consequently, electricity will become scarce and much more expensive, undermining the rule's net-zero transition towards renewable energy .

Liberty Nation: Biden’s Veto Sinks US Solar Panel Manufacturers
Biden’s Veto Sinks US Solar Panel Manufacturers
President Biden's veto of bipartisan legislation aimed at protecting US manufacturers of solar panels is a boon for China's dominance in the market. The legislation would have reversed a previous executive order by the president that did not enforce tariffs on imports of solar panels from China, allowing US-produced solar panel components to be price competitive. However, Biden vetoed the legislation, leading to US manufacturers competing with the predatory pricing of Chinese photovoltaic cells made with slave labor. The move puts the Biden administration at odds with both Democrats and Republicans, who have different reasons for opposing the veto, but both agree that it puts the US at a disadvantage in its competition with China in the solar industry.

The Epoch Times: Debt Ceiling Hopes Lift Dollar to 7-Week Peak
Debt Ceiling Hopes Lift Dollar to 7-Week Peak
The US dollar has hit a seven-week peak after President Biden and Republican Kevin McCarthy worked towards avoiding damaging debt default, which would cause a global hard landing, and pledged to negotiate a deal to raise the debt ceiling which decreases Federal Reserve easing expectations. Traders are now pricing in around a 20 percent chance of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates in its June meeting, with a rate of around 4.525 percent priced for the Fed’s December meeting. This implies around 55 basis points of easing by year-end. The dollar index has risen 0.3 percent to 103.17, its highest level since 27 March, with the euro slipping as much as 0.3 percent to $1.0805, its lowest level in six weeks.

Former CFO of Seattle startup accused of diverting $35 million, losing it after investing in crypto
Seattle-based startup's former CFO, Nevin Shetty, took $35m without permission and invested it in cryptocurrency before the market crashed, according to a federal indictment. Shetty was charged with four counts of wire fraud and is scheduled to be arraigned on 25 May. Fabric, which had raised over $293m by February 2022 and was valued at $1.5bn, adopted a conservative approach to managing its funds as it raised funds.

The Epoch Times: Oil Prices Ease as All Eyes on US Debt Ceiling Talks
Oil Prices Ease as All Eyes on US Debt Ceiling Talks
Oil prices dip as traders watch for progress on U.S. debt talks. Brent crude futures decrease 0.5% to $76.59 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude drops 0.5% to $72.49 a barrel. U.S. fuel demand and optimism surrounding negotiations over the U.S. debt ceiling helped crude benchmarks settle more than $2 higher. The U.S. dollar remains strong, making oil more expensive for holders of other currencies. The government needs to reach a debt agreement before running out of money to pay bills, and there is an increased possibility of another interest rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Fox News: Alaska Legislature passes bill to keep gun stores open during disasters
Alaska Legislature passes bill to keep gun stores open during disasters
Alaska lawmakers passed a bill to block officials from closing gun stores during statewide disasters, unless other businesses are closed too. The bill was passed in response to business closures during the pandemic, and similar laws have been adopted by several other states. The bill aligns with a 2022 federal appeals court ruling that closing gun shops as nonessential businesses during the pandemic violated the right to bear arms.

Liberty Nation: Good News for Gun Rights From Unlikely Places
Good News for Gun Rights From Unlikely Places
A New Jersey gun law is being overturned before it can even come into effect, thanks to a federal judge's ruling. The state legislation was set to take away the right to obtain a firearm from New Jersey residents, making it prohibitively expensive and requiring personal references and liability insurance. The judge ruled that this was unconstitutional and issued preliminary injunctions on the law's most onerous provisions, such as banning guns at zoos, film sets, and airports. Meanwhile, former president Barack Obama made a surprising statement recognizing gun ownership as an important American tradition and advocating for finding solutions to gun violence that don't involve banning all guns.
