Ontario Tables Legislation to Split Peel Region, Looks at Splitting Other Regions
Ontario's government proposed a legislation to create a three separate municipalities from Peel Region by 2025. The municipalities will include Caledon, Mississauga and Brampton. The proposed bill titled, "The Hazel McCallion Act" will create a five-person transition board that will focus on preserving frontline services, shared assets and services, and a fair distribution of costs. Brampton Mayor expressed concern about costs for separate services such as police and water treatment, but thanked Premier Ford for assuring that the residents of Brampton will not be shortchanged during this process. Mississauga Mayor expressed support of the proposed legislation and long called for the dissolution. The provincial government will also look into whether other regions such as Durham, Halton, Niagara, Simcoe, Waterloo and York still need a regional level of government. The province is assessing the community's maturity in handling a switch to one-tier municipalities. The province will also ensure that all three cities can meet affordable housing goals.

Warren questioned Bialek about suspicious trades involving Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and former Vice Chair Richard Clarida that occurred a few years back. In July 2022, the IG cleared Powell and Clarida, insisting the duo did not make any improper trades while at their posts. Meanwhile, Warren and Senator Rick Scott introduced legislation seeking to establish independent IG oversight of the Federal Reserve.

The Epoch Times: London Ontario's Public Library Bans Society for Academic Freedom
London Ontario's Public Library Bans Society for Academic Freedom
The London Public Library denied the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship (SAFS) the space to hold their annual lecture, citing the possibility of physical danger and workplace harassment. British author Joanna Williams had been invited to speak about "How Woke Won: The Elitist Movement That Threatens Democracy, Tolerance and Reason," but the library was allegedly concerned about the "misuse of property or equipment" and the potential for the event to "negatively impact or impede the ability of others to enjoy the services and facilities of the Library." SAFS President Mark Mercer argued that the library's actions contradict its own principles of promoting intellectual freedom, calling it "deeply disturbing." The lecture was ultimately held at a hotel, and SAFS plans to hold their Annual General Meeting and Conference at Western University.

The Epoch Times: The America I Loved Is Leaving
The America I Loved Is Leaving
America is spiraling down into the gutter of history like the Roman Empire due to socialism, critical race theory, big government, and a failing criminal justice system. The Biden family's corruption is a perfect example of "pay-to-play." To prevent further decline, the current government must be voted out, the education system must prioritize history and basic skills, energy programs must utilize fossil resources, the concept of "woke" must be defeated, borders must be controlled, the criminal justice system must be reformed, term limits for Congress must be implemented, career government officials must be held accountable, strong families must be prioritized, and faith in God must be revived.

ABC Gawks at Shoplifting Surge, Shocked Stores Closing Down
Major U.S. cities are experiencing out-of-control shoplifting and theft, causing national brands to shut down stores. Target alone lost hundreds of millions of dollars from theft and is being forced to lock up more items on shelves. The National Retail Federation has noted that organized crime in stores is growing nationwide, with stores like Office Depot, The Container Store, Nordstrom, and Whole Foods closing in San Francisco due to safety concerns. Other factors hurting retailers include changing shopping habits, more price-sensitive customers, and inflation. Shoplifting ultimately costs every customer more.

The Imaginative Conservative: Distributism and the Restoration of Freedom
Distributism and the Restoration of Freedom
"The Political Economy of Distributism" by Alexander Salter is a scholarly work that delves into the ideas of distributism presented by Hilaire Belloc and G.K. Chesterton. Salter's book offers a systematic approach to analyze distributist ideas, emphasizing the relevance of central tenets of Catholic Social Teaching- subsidiarity and solidarity, to the distributist creed.

Salter's detailed defense of distributism as a practical remedy to the challenges of contemporary society includes a comprehensive critique of Belloc and Chesterton's seminal distributist works. He justifies distributism from the perspective of the art of political economy, affirming its relevance while acknowledging its limitations. The inclusion of the economic thought of Wilhelm Röpke, who was a lifelong Lutheran and a distributism defender, and his influence on distributism, adds considerable weight to Salter's argument.

Alok Tayi’s New Start-Up Is Putting Drug Development Into Patients’ Hands
Vibe Bio CEO Alok Tayi founded the company after his newborn daughter was hospitalised with a disease that had no tangible treatment options. Tayi discovered that the obstacle in developing cures was funding and began focusing on a more innovative way of obtaining financing. Vibe's ethos is that patients should be part of the community and empowered to pursue a cure as opposed to being underserved because of costs, and inflection point financing is key to the company's approach. Vibe allows communities to find the best partner for the treatment and funds the necessary data and experiments to move the process forward towards a pivotal point in the process. The company plan to move from its current traditional C-corporation business structure to become a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation, which will allow for infinite scalability in a high-value asset class and provide patients with a larger pool of participants.
