Fox News: CNN's Jake Tapper says Durham Report is 'devastating' for FBI after spending years legitimizing Russiagate
The Durham Report confirmed conservative beliefs that the Russian investigation that plagued Trump stemmed from unsubstantiated and politicized origins. Jake Tapper, who led CNN's coverage of Russiagate, called the report "devastating" to the FBI, which is significant as the longtime anchor was in some ways the face of CNN's Russiagate coverage just as Rachel Maddow was for MSNBC. Tapper helped introduce the world to the existence of the infamous Steele dossier and hyped it long before he called the Durham Report "devastating" to the FBI. Tapper received the Merriman Smith Award for broadcasting in 2018 from the White House Correspondents' Association for his reporting of the Steele dossier.

The American news media has been misleading the public since Donald Trump entered politics, swallowing up supposed scandals that the deep state tempted them with. Rep. Adam Schiff and James Comey amplified lies, while the New York Times and Washington Post won Pulitzer Prizes for their litany of deceit. Journalism is now the least trusted institution, and a tyranny of lies is harder to fight against than a tyranny of brute power. The news media lies and the public doesn't believe them.

Global debt rose to almost $305 trillion in the first quarter, an increase of $8.3 trillion compared to the end of last year, according to a report by the Institute of International Finance (IIF). The rise in the cost of servicing that debt has sparked concerns over the financial system’s leverage. In addition, ageing populations, rising health care costs and heightened geopolitical tensions are putting pressure on governments. The EM universe saw 75% of countries see an increase in debt levels in dollar terms in Q1, with overall emerging market debt levels crossing over $100tn for the first time.

President Biden cancelled planned visits to Papua New Guinea and Australia and will return to the US after the G-7 summit to focus on negotiations to raise the debt limit as the deadline approaches. Biden will attend the G-7 summit, where global issues including support for Ukraine are expected to be discussed. Republican lawmakers have called for spending cuts in return for raising the debt ceiling, but many of these cuts have faced opposition from Democrats. If no agreement is reached by early June, there could be a sharp economic downturn.

J&J has set aside $400m to settle U.S. state consumer protection actions as part of its $8.9bn effort to resolve claims that its talc products cause cancer. The bankruptcy plan filed by J&J subsidiary LTL Management intends to pay cancer victims, and the proposed settlement includes discounts depending on the type and severity of cancer, age, history of talc use, and other factors. The highest payment under the settlement would be $500k, and it includes $260k for terminal ovarian cancer. Several states had begun consumer protection actions against J&J before the bankruptcy filing stopped investigations. New Mexico and Mississippi moved to dismiss LTL’s bankruptcy; they claimed that LTL’s renewed bankruptcy violates state law enforcement powers by attempting to cap the company’s liability for state consumer protection actions.

Similar reports of floods, landslides, and evacuations have also been reported in Croatia, Bosnia, and Slovenia. They declared a state of emergency. Dozens of landslides were reported in eastern Slovenia, many of which endangered homes and infrastructure.

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 219,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs worldwide from the 2014-2016 model years due to an electrical short that may cause vehicle fires. The recall covers vehicles sold in the US, Canada, Mexico, and elsewhere.

BP's subsidiary will pay a $40 million penalty to settle charges that its refinery breached federal regulations to control hazardous pollutants in its wastewater. The settlement will require BP to invest about $197m in capital improvements to bring down air pollution, with an expected reduction of approximately 28 tons p.a. of hazardous air pollutants and a potential reduction of VOC emissions (accounting for 372 tons p.a.) from its Whiting refinery in Indiana. BP Plc. remained committed to safe, compliant, and reliable operations. The DOJ is requiring oil majors to take immense measures to reduce illegal benzene and VOC emissions.
