The Epoch Times: Shipping Container Filled With Illegal Drugs Found by Mexican Navy Refutes China’s Denials on Fentanyl Trafficking
Shipping Container Filled With Illegal Drugs Found by Mexican Navy Refutes China’s Denials on Fentanyl Trafficking
Mexico seized a shipping container from China carrying fentanyl and methamphetamine, despite China's denial of such illegal trafficking. Mexican President Obrador has asked Chinese leader Xi Jinping to help curb the illegal trade of fentanyl, which is highly addictive, with the potential to cause death. DEA reports suggest that fentanyl, mostly trafficked by Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels, is sourced largely from China, and it constitutes a national crisis in the United States. Fentanyl seizures have increased over the years, with an estimated 196 Americans dying daily from fentanyl poisoning between 2019 and 2021.

The Epoch Times: Putin, Zelenskyy Agree to Meet With 'African Leaders Peace Mission,' Says South Africa President
Putin, Zelenskyy Agree to Meet With 'African Leaders Peace Mission,' Says South Africa President
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have agreed to separate meetings with a delegation of leaders from six African countries to discuss a possible plan to end the war in Ukraine. The leaders of Zambia, Senegal, Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Egypt would make up the delegation along with Ramaphosa. Four of those six African countries—South Africa, Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Uganda—abstained from a U.N. vote last year on condemning Russia’s invasion. Zambia and Egypt voted in favor of the motion.

Ramaphosa’s announcement came days after the U.S. ambassador accused South Africa of siding with Russia in the war in Ukraine and even providing weapons to help Moscow. South Africa has strong historical ties with Russia due to the former Soviet Union’s support of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress party when it was a liberation movement fighting to end the apartheid regime. South Africa also hosted Russian and Chinese warships for joint naval exercises off its coast in February and which coincided with the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

At Cannes Film Festival, Johnny Depp Says He Has No 'Further Need for Hollywood'
Johnny Depp says he has "no further need" for Hollywood and doesn't feel boycotted by the industry. Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival where his new film "Jeanne du Barry" premiered, Depp addressed accusations he had been blacklisted after losing his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard last year. He won $10 million in damages after accusing Heard of lying about abuse and infidelity during their marriage. She was awarded $2 million. Depp, who returned to the limelight after a brief court appearance during which he accused Heard of “building a dossier” of false claims against him, will no longer appear in studio projects.

'Do you know these WWII veterans?': Missouri historical society asks for help in identifying unnamed heroes
The McDonald County Historical Society in Missouri is seeking help from the public to identify American World War II veterans whose faces are seen in a photo album created during the war by the beloved Bonnibel Sweet, who ran a drug store in Pineville, Missouri. Sweet gave a silver dollar to every local boy or young man that joined the war effort and collected photos and letters from many of them to be displayed in an album, created from 120 soldiers. The album was passed on to Sweet's daughter and after her death, to her grandson Michael Goodman, who donated it to the McDonald County Historical Society along with inapprehensible photos of soldiers. Currently, there are 65 veterans in the album that still need identification.

Newsbusters: CBS Elevates Shoplifter as Community Pillar ‘Helping Black Trans’ Kids
CBS Elevates Shoplifter as Community Pillar ‘Helping Black Trans’ Kids
Transgender shoplifter Banko Brown was shot and killed by security guard Michael Earl Wayne Anthony after a scuffle in a San Francisco Walgreens. Brown was initially portrayed as a pillar of the community, known for helping black transgender youth. CBS Morning's report began with lawyer John Burris threatening lawsuits against Walgreens, the security company, and Anthony. Correspondent Nancy Chen showed a video of the altercation, but it was hard for viewers to understand what happened due to the camera angle. Chen mentioned Brown's empty-handed shoplifting and instead played up Anthony as the aggressor. CBS Mornings attempted to gaslight viewers on this self-defense incident, made possible by lucrative sponsorships from Aleve and Google.

The Federalist: NASCAR's All-Star Race Goes Big By Going Small
NASCAR's All-Star Race Goes Big By Going Small
NASCAR, celebrating 75 years, returns to its short-track roots by holding the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina after a quarter-century hiatus; the historical track was home to many NASCAR legends, but lost favor in the 1990s as glitzier tracks with modern amenities opened. A dedicated group of fans and civic boosters, buoyed by Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s effort to clean up and convert the track for iRacing, successfully campaigned to have NASCAR hold its All-Star Race at the track as part of the sport's anniversary celebration; despite having few amenities and rare parking, the track's historical significance makes this a reason to celebrate.

Fox News: AI demonstrates human-like thinking, and even its creators are worried
AI demonstrates human-like thinking, and even its creators are worried
The media is dominated by messages of fear over artificial intelligence and its potentially apocalyptic future. Chatbots are inconsistent and dependent on what they are fed, but the question remains whether they are capable of human reasoning and could dominate society. Some experts are urging government regulation to prevent the technology from going wrong, while others are investing in their own AI ventures. Despite concerns over the impact of AI on jobs and the ability to distinguish fact from fiction, it is important not to overreact or dismiss the potential benefits.

The Epoch Times: Cannes Film Festival Kicks Off With Johnny Depp, 'Jeanne Du Barry,' and Plenty to Talk About
Cannes Film Festival Kicks Off With Johnny Depp, 'Jeanne Du Barry,' and Plenty to Talk About
Johnny Depp makes a comeback at the 76th Cannes Film Festival with the premiere of "Jeanne du Barry," co-starring Brie Larson, Uma Thurman, Gong Li, and Elle Fanning. Michael Douglas receives an honorary Palme d’Or while protesters upset with the French pension system remain at a distance from the festival. With many big-budget films and stars like Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett and Leonardo DiCaprio set to hit Cannes’ red carpet, the party is sure to go on despite ongoing Hollywood screenwriter strikes. The festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or, will be decided by a jury, including Oscar-nominated Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund, presiding over a group of industry insiders. The opening night selection, "Jeanne du Barry," co-produced by Depp after his highly publicized abuse trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, remains controversial.
