The Epoch Times: $1.7 Trillion Dollar Federal Agency Still Handing Foster Children Garbage Bags for Their Belongings
$1.7 Trillion Dollar Federal Agency Still Handing Foster Children Garbage Bags for Their Belongings
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will propose a $1.7 trillion operation budget for the next fiscal year, seeking billions more in taxpayer dollars to fund new expenditures, including a sexual gender minority research office and grants to abortion providers. But the agency has yet to ask for funds to fix the longstanding practice of giving children taken into foster care garbage bags to hold their belongings. Foster care advocates hope lawmakers will make it a priority during National Foster Care Month. Several groups across the United States offer suitcases and other essentials to children in foster care, due to the government's inability to address the issue.

Jonah Goldberg: GOP 'Closet Normals on the Hill' Want to Move Beyond Trump
Goldberg says Republican leaders and members of Congress want to move beyond Trump, but are waiting for voters to do so. He suggests that a slow accretion of more baggage hitting a critical mass point may cause Republican voters to seek someone with fewer problems. He notes that many Republican officials are psychologically wanting to move beyond the Trump era, but cannot do so politically until voters take that step.

Let the Blue Cities Die
The Democrat cities are socialist wastelands where criminals roam free while law-abiding citizens are punished. We should avoid them and elect legislators to Congress who will cut their federal funds. Our job is containment - to keep their poison from spreading to the rest of the country. We must cut off their money to drive the remaining productive out and let the cities die.

Time for Action to Stop Egypt’s Torture of Salah Soltan
Salah Soltan, a legal permanent resident of the US and former professor of Islamic Law, has been imprisoned in Egypt since 2013, accused of terrorism-related charges. The United Nations Human Rights Council has deemed his arrest and prosecution arbitrary and violating of political participation and peaceful assembly. Despite his son's activism and calls for intervention, past US administrations have failed to assist Soltan, and the current Biden administration has yet to act on his case, even after concerns were raised over his declining health. Many other Egyptians who had supported the Morsi regime are also being mistreated, but Soltan's life is an American life that can be saved.

The Epoch Times: ‘Wind Back Regulation’: Aussie Mining Magnate Urges Federal Government to Consider ‘Regional Security and Stability’
‘Wind Back Regulation’: Aussie Mining Magnate Urges Federal Government to Consider ‘Regional Security and Stability’
Mining magnate Gina Rinehart has called on the Australian government to reduce regulations on the mining industry so the nation's natural resources can be utilised better for regional security and stability. Rinehart said if Australia does not increase its mining exports, China, Russia, and Iran may become the preferred supplier of energy to Asia, compromising Western country security. Currently, Australia supplies Japan with 70% of its coal, 60% of iron ore, and 40% of its gas imports. India imports 50 million tonnes of Australian coal each year, accounting for 80% of India's coal imports. Rinehart also criticised the federal government's delayed approval for new mines, saying mining investment has decreased to $40bn creating a $60bn investment gap.

The Australian mining and resources sector has contributed to the recent federal budget surplus of $4.2bn and mining and resources make up 69% of all Australian goods and services exported — up three percent from the previous year. Commodity prices have remained high in Australia and the resources sector pays over 30% of Australia's total company tax income. Resource and energy exports are predicted to generate a record $464bn in 2022-23. The mining sector is crucial to the prosperity of the Australian economy and is important for the development of critical minerals capabilities as the world decarbonises.

VOTERS’ REMORSE: Blue state survey shows majority want to re-criminalize drugs: 'We made an enormous mistake'
A recent survey found that support for drug decriminalization is decreasing in Oregon due to the rise in overdose rates and homelessness. The survey conducted by DHM Research found that 63% of 500 Oregonians support reinstating criminal punishments for drug possession while funding treatment programs. Measure 110, passed in 2020, decriminalized personal use of hard drugs, but treatment was made optional and possession was punished by a maximum $100 fine. More than 60% of voters believe drug decriminalization has made addiction, homelessness, and crime worse. Overdose deaths increased by 4.58% in Oregon from November 2021 to November 2022, seven times the national average.

Walgreens Reaches $230 Million Opioid Settlement With San Francisco
San Francisco has agreed to a $230m settlement with Walgreens over its role in the city’s opioid epidemic. The settlement comes nine months after a US judge ruled that the drugstore chain could be held liable for having “substantially contributed” to an epidemic that caused “widespread harm” to the city. Walgreens was criticised for its “15-year failure” to scrutinise opioid prescriptions. In response, Walgreens denied liability and offered an agreement to avoid a trial to determine damages. Its payment means it is no longer the only remaining defendant, after several drugmakers and distributors reached settlements worth more than $120m.

Fox News: AI shown to predict risk of pancreatic cancer well before symptoms appear
AI shown to predict risk of pancreatic cancer well before symptoms appear
Scientists have discovered that artificial intelligence can help predict whether a patient is at risk of pancreatic cancer by analyzing medical data from six million patients in Denmark and three million in America. The AI successfully predicted risk up to three years before diagnosis, providing an opportunity to improve the chances of survival from a disease which currently claims the lives of over 50,000 Americans per year. Early detection is key to improving pancreatic cancer survival rates, but current screening methods have limitations such as false positives and high costs. AI-based screening could help to identify those at higher risk of the aggressive disease at an early stage, making earlier treatment and possibly saving lives.

Front Page Magazine: It’s Time to Ban Cars for Traffic Fatalities
It’s Time to Ban Cars for Traffic Fatalities
In the US, traffic deaths are on the rise, with 42,795 fatalities in 2022. While many argue for a national speed limit of 5 miles per hour or a ban on cars altogether, the real issue is with the people behind the wheel. Similarly, the gun control debate is not about the number of deaths caused by guns, but rather a power play by the Left to disarm the public and take control. Guns, like knives and cars, are neutral objects that can be used for good or evil. The solution is to focus on punishing the monsters who abuse these objects, not the objects themselves.

Danny Masterson's rape retrial is expected to conclude today with the jury beginning deliberations on allegations of rape and drugging by the former "That '70s Show" star. Prosecutors accuse Masterson of using his status as a prominent member of the Church of Scientology to avoid the consequences for years. Masterson's attorney argues that the women's years-old stories are so full of inconsistencies that there is more than enough reasonable doubt for jurors to acquit Masterson. If convicted, Masterson could face up to 40 years in prison.

The issue was raised by Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn during a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, at which OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was questioned. In particular, Blackburn probed the use of OpenAI’s Jukebox app, which generates songs using AI, and asked Altman if artists and copyright owners would benefit from the technology. While Altman acknowledged the concerns, he did not provide a direct answer, prompting Blackburn to suggest Congress should intervene.
