Front Page Magazine: A Game of Debt-Ceiling Chicken
A Game of Debt-Ceiling Chicken
As the debt ceiling deadline looms, both parties are engaging in "debt-ceiling chicken," threatening a government default to force their agenda. This reflects the Founders' belief in exploiting factional competition to protect freedom. Money fuels ambition, so the House of Representatives, directly elected every two years, was given the "power of the purse." This constitutional duty to check an overweening federal government is not "obstructionism," but necessary to prevent our government's relentlessly growing debt and swelling entitlements from approaching disaster in a decade.

Townhall: What's Wacko Is Welfare Without Work
What's Wacko Is Welfare Without Work
Congress is in a heated debate over whether or not to mandate work requirements for welfare recipients. President Biden has criticized the proposal, but proponents argue that it will lead to better outcomes for low-income individuals and families. The success of past welfare reform efforts that included work requirements suggests that this could be an effective solution to poverty.

Welfare enrollment has increased during the pandemic, and many still remain out of work despite job openings. Reform advocates argue that work requirements will incentivize self-sufficiency, improve financial futures, and alleviate poverty. However, opponents argue that work requirements are difficult to implement in some areas and that transportation and job training options are limited. Despite the ongoing debate, history has shown that work requirements can be effective in reducing welfare dependency and poverty.

Townhall: Reject the Normalcy Bias
Reject the Normalcy Bias
The left's power lies in conservatives' normalcy bias - the assumption that things are still the same as they used to be. But the reality is that America has changed - the left has infiltrated our major institutions and turned them into tools for spreading leftism. These institutions still demand respect and obedience, but it's all a lie. The justice system is broken, the military and NFL have been politicized, and Hollywood, colleges, big corporations, and much of the government promote leftism at the expense of freedom and limited government. Conservatives must admit that this is not the society we grew up in and take radical action to fight back against the radical left.

Front Page Magazine: A Russian Move into Armenia?
A Russian Move into Armenia?
In the aftermath of the Second Karabakh War, the presence of Russian peacekeeping forces in the region has been controversial. The peacekeeping force has been accused of being complicit in smuggling activities and not properly ensuring peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Furthermore, Russian influence remains high in the South Caucuses, as demonstrated by the recent Victory Parade in Moscow, which was attended by Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, but not Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev. The West continues to make efforts to negotiate peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but Russian influence remains a significant obstacle to progress.

Townhall: Trying to Hide Our Heritage
Trying to Hide Our Heritage
An Arizona state representative, also an ordained Presbyterian minister, was caught on video hiding Bibles in a House-members only lounge to prevent them from being read. Many great American leaders, including Washington and Lincoln, were regular readers of the Bible and recognized its positive impact on American culture, politics, and social life. The Bible is not a book to be hidden but to be widely read for the good of all.

The Epoch Times: Court Rules Quebec Man Sentenced for Ordering Killings Can Apply for Parole Earlier
Court Rules Quebec Man Sentenced for Ordering Killings Can Apply for Parole Earlier
Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau's life sentence with no chance of parole for 35 years has been reduced by a decade by the Quebec Court of Appeal. He was convicted of murder and attempted murder charges in 2018, and sentence stacking had been used, resulting in the longest possible non-parole period being given. However, the Supreme Court of Canada deemed such stacking unconstitutional and the new ruling means that Hudon-Barbeau can apply for parole after serving 25 years. He made headlines in 2013 for orchestrating a helicopter prison escape and served a separate 16-year sentence for the incident.

The Epoch Times: Texas Close to Passing 'Save Women's Sports Act' Banning Transgender Athletes at Collegiate Level
Texas Close to Passing 'Save Women's Sports Act' Banning Transgender Athletes at Collegiate Level
The Texas legislature may ban biological males who identify as females from competing in women’s college sports, with Senate Bill 15, the “Save Women’s Sports Act,” expected to pass. If approved and signed into law, Texas would join other red states in outlawing transgender athletes from participating on teams that don’t correspond to their biological gender. The bill would also allow women to compete against men in sports if there are no corresponding women’s teams available. Some Democrats argue the bill discriminates against males identifying as female who wish to compete in women’s sports, claiming that no such athletes compete on the collegiate level in Texas.

However, Texas State Republican Representative Valoree Swanson, a supporter of the bill, cited cases where females were injured while competing against biological males in school sports, and defended the legislation as a protection of biological women’s sports rights. She also recounted the story of a previously banned male cheerleader who had harassed female teammates and caused injury as an example of why the bill is necessary. The debate over the issue continues to be a contentious point between conservatives and left-wing advocates across the country.

Fox News: High-tech cameras helping California firefighters battle wildfires are now publicly accessible
High-tech cameras helping California firefighters battle wildfires are now publicly accessible
California has partnered with state fire agencies to create ALERTCalifornia, a public website with live camera feed from over 1,000 live camera sensors to track wildfires before, during and after their occurrence. The high-definition cameras can pan, tilt, and zoom in areas where cameras are situated, giving insights to Cal Fire or the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection via emergency command centers, helping them access the area before deployment. These cameras initially help monitor various natural disasters like earthquakes, and are also used on ski lifts.

The Epoch Times: 'Every State Has Become a Border State': Mississippi Sends National Guard to Texas
'Every State Has Become a Border State': Mississippi Sends National Guard to Texas
Mississippi National Guard troops have been deployed to the southern border in response to an urgent call for help from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Gov. Tate Reeves, a Republican, expressed concerns over the Biden administration's handling of border security, citing the influx of drugs and illegal immigration as threats to public safety. The troops from Mississippi will join law enforcement support sent by Florida and Idaho to support Customs and Border Protection officers and agents and provide additional support in managing the border situation.

Since the Title 42 policy was enacted in March 2020, U.S. officials were able to quickly remove over 2.8 million asylum seekers and illegal immigrants who arrived at the southern border during the COVID-19 pandemic, citing concerns about preventing the spread of the virus. However, after its expiration in May, tens of thousands of migrants have made their way to the U.S.-Mexico border, expecting a significant change in the immigration policy landscape. The Biden administration has introduced new policies that provide a pathway for migrants to enter the United States, causing concern from Republicans who argue that lax immigration policies have contributed to increased drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
