UCP Leader Danielle Smith and NDP Leader Rachel Notley faced off in an hour-long leaders’ debate on May 18. The two candidates discussed affordability, healthcare, the economy, relations with Ottawa, and a “wild card” round taken from public submissions. Notley criticized the UCP government’s tenure while Smith touted her party’s record during her seven months in office. During the debate, both women were asked what the government could do to bring the actual cost of utilities down going forward, with Notley emphasizing a need to lower costs and Smith pushing for a reliable and affordable power grid based on concrete plans rather than ideology.
Breitbart: Bipartisan Bill Aims to Protect AM Radio as Automakers Move to Kill It
Lawmakers propose 'AM for Every Vehicle Act' to require automakers to retain AM radios in vehicles, in response to growing trend among car manufacturers to exclude AM radio. The bill aims to compete with electric vehicle producers who have given up on the AM band due to interference with electric operating systems. The legislation has bipartisan support and is championed by Republican senators JD Vance and Ted Cruz, with backing from the FCC's Jessica Rosenworcel who cites public safety imperative for having AM radios in cars. Until the bill is approved and new vehicles are compliant, a warning sticker indicating the lack of the band is required if a car is sold without AM radios.
Breitbart: Glenn Youngkin Releases Nationally-Themed Ad as GOP Primary Heats up
Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) released a campaign-style ad highlighting his remarks at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. It focuses on the future of America, ushering in a new era of American values, and choosing life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness over oppression. Youngkin's video was paid for by his Super PAC, Spirit of Virginia. Although Youngkin has said he has no plans to run for president "this year," media outlets speculate that he is waiting to see if Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis trip up to run for president himself. The ad comes as the Republican presidential primary is heating up.
The Epoch Times: Electronic Voting Data to Be Stored in Canada, Elections Canada Chief Says
Elections Canada plans to introduce an electronic voting list, enabling voters to do so remotely, despite concerns about cybersecurity and vulnerability to fraud. Stéphane Perrault, the chief electoral officer, wants to modernise the service and said the poll book would “reduce wait times and help address the very serious challenges created by a diminishing workforce". Perrault has backed off his statement about storing voters' data in the cloud on servers in unknown locations, and is instead said to be working on developing an in-house software solution, stored on a secure database in Canada.

As Bud Light works to bring back conservative customers, a nationwide boycott of the company's beers continues. An LGBT lobbying group suspended the company's Corporate Equality Index score, giving the company 90 days to respond or lose its perfect score. The company's executives are fully versed in the nomenclature of the glitter mob and the customer revolt against Anheuser-Busch has been a long time coming if the company bent the knee to corporate extortion and earned a score of 100.

The Epoch Times: Chair of Toronto Chinese Associations Umbrella Group Met With Chinese Foreign Influence Agency Officials
Han Jialiang, executive chairman of Canada's Council of Newcomer Organizations (CONCO), recently visited China and met with representatives of the Chinese Communist Party's United Front Works Department (UFWD), which is concerned with advancing the regime's influence abroad. Breitbart: Breitbart Business Digest: Inflation Is Here for the Long Run
Americans are increasingly feeling the bite of inflation, with 61% reporting financial hardship due to rising costs, according to a recent Gallup poll. The longer inflation persists, the more it hurts as monthly price increases compound, reducing real incomes. The credibility of the Biden administration and Federal Reserve has been eroded by claims that inflation would be transitory, when it is likely to persist because of factors such as supply chain disruptions, decoupling from China, and increases in the cost of clean energy. Biden's nominees to the Federal Reserve lack the financial macro expertise needed to solve the problem.
Despite the retreat of inflation from the peak rate of 9.1% in June 2021, Americans are still feeling the pinch, with long-term higher inflation expected to lead to reduced real incomes and a psychological tax on those weary of rising prices. Economic growth policies may be replaced by those fostering diversity, inclusion, and equity, while the government's push toward cleaner energy will push up prices. Biden's nominees to the Federal Reserve lack the expertise needed to solve the problem. U.S. households appear to have a better understanding of the problem than Wall Street; 61% of Americans report financial hardship due to rising costs, and consumer expectations for inflation over the next few years are moving higher.
The Epoch Times: Australian Government Supports Carbon Capture and Storage Witih Scarce Funding
The Australian Federal Resources Minister, Madeleine King, has backed carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a necessary part of decarbonization efforts and a way for the industry to reach net-zero emissions. She has announced that the federal government will soon commence public consultation on a new round of greenhouse gas storage acreage. However, critics accuse CCS of being an unproven technology that distracts from actual climate action.
Woodside Energy CEO, Meg O'Neill, welcomed the decision and called for the development of a national CCS strategy and promoting Australia as a regional leader in CO2 storage. Critics, such as John Kerry, doubt whether it will be possible to implement CCS at scale, quickly, and affordably to stave off global warming. Although the industry has expertise in geological storage, the federal government has not yet announced project funding to assist with its roll-out.
The Epoch Times: San Diego to Sue SeaWorld for $12 Million in Unpaid Rent
San Diego City Council votes 8–0 to sue SeaWorld for $12 million in back rent for 2019 to 2021, including unpaid rent, late fees, and interest. City Attorney Mara Elliott says SeaWorld has refused to pay back rent on its Mission Bay leasehold and is the only city lessee to attempt to justify withholding rent due to state-mandated closures during the pandemic. SeaWorld spokesperson Tracy Saphr said the theme park’s policy does not permit them to comment on potential litigation and that they have paid over $416 million in lease payments to the city since 2010.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria voices frustration with SeaWorld for refusing to pay fees during a budget committee meeting earlier this month. The funds could be used to help the city in many good ways, he says. SeaWorld spokesperson Tracy Saphr says the theme park’s policy does not permit them to comment on potential litigation and that they have paid over $416 million in lease payments to the city since 2010.
The Epoch Times: Payday Loans Often Come With a Higher Price Than You Want to Pay
Payday loans, also known as easy loans, payday advance, or same day loans, are high-interest, short-term loans that become debt traps for many borrowers. Predatory lenders make about 75 percent of their profits from people who borrow from them more than ten times a year. Payday loans are easy to get, but difficult to pay off, often leading to a cycle of debt.
Alternative sources of money, such as personal loans from banks or credit cards, are much safer options than payday loans. Most payday loans have interest rates ranging from 300 to 400 percent APR, and there may also be hidden fees. 20 states and Washington D.C. have passed laws to address the issue of predatory lenders, but 30 states have not yet passed any laws. If you are struggling with debt, it is important to contact a financial counselor for assistance to get out and stay out of debt.

The Epoch Times: Loneliness as Unhealthy as 15 Cigarettes a Day U.S. Surgeon General Advises
Loneliness is as dangerous as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, according to a new report from the US Surgeon General which highlights the health risks of isolation. Loneliness and social isolation are linked to a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke, depression, anxiety, and premature death. The epidemic can weaken performance, productivity, and engagement, and reduce local participation in community activities. Lower-income adults, single parents, and under 65s are particularly vulnerable. However, the report suggests simple solutions can begin to address the problem, such as disconnecting from excessive social media use, and spending more time in front of people.

Instead, hybrids and other alternative-power vehicles should be prioritised, while EV technology is developed.
