Border Patrol arrest 16 people on FBI terror watch list in April at southern border
Border Patrol agents stopped 16 people on the FBI’s terrorist watch list attempting to enter the U.S. illegally in April, more than the previous four years combined. The number brings the total to 98 encounters so far this fiscal year, compared to 16 in FY21 and three in FY20. The watch list, or Terrorist Screening Dataset, has raised concerns among Republicans about those who are getting past overwhelmed Border Patrol agents.

Biden-Appointed Massachusetts Prosecutor Leaked DOJ Information And Attended Democratic Fundraiser, Ethics Probe Finds
Federal investigations found that former U.S. attorney Rachael Rollins violated federal law by attending a Democratic event with first lady Jill Biden and leaking sensitive DOJ material about a potential federal investigation into a candidate to the Boston Globe. Rollins also allegedly violated the Hatch Act by receiving monthly campaign contributions, attending a fundraiser with Biden, and claiming she had approval to attend on Twitter despite not receiving it. Rollins resigned after the findings were released.

Biden-nominated US attorney resigns after she leaked 'sensitive DOJ' info to influence election — then 'falsely testified under oath' about it, report reveals
Massachusetts U.S. attorney Rachael Rollins plans to resign after being accused by two investigative reports of leaking "sensitive DOJ" information to influence an election in favor of a fellow Democratic colleague, violating the Hatch Act. The reports alleged Rollins leaked non-public DOJ information so news outlets would report that a political candidate she opposed was facing a potential DOJ investigation. Additionally, Rollins was accused of providing advice to Ricardo Arroyo while he was on the campaign on how to respond to sexual assault allegations made against him.

2024 Trump Nomination Would Hurt Down-Ballot Republicans, Poll Finds
A new poll has found that a 2022 election rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump would hurt down-ballot Republicans. If Trump is at the top of the ticket, Democrats would have a five-point advantage in the generic congressional ballot, leading Republicans 47 to 42 percent. Without Trump, Democrats and Republicans are deadlocked at 44 percent. WPA Intelligence conducted the survey of 1,571 registered voters nationally via an online panel between May 10 and 13. The poll is categorized under .

The Epoch Times: Biden Rejects Republican Proposal to Apply Work Requirements to Medicaid
Biden Rejects Republican Proposal to Apply Work Requirements to Medicaid
President Joe Biden is open to work requirement expansions as part of a debt ceiling compromise with Republicans, but only if they don't impact healthcare programs. Biden's comments follow a debt limit discussion with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other congressional leaders, which he called productive. A Republican proposal would introduce a work requirement for Medicaid recipients, with able-bodied adults aged 19 to 55 who don't have children or other dependents needing to complete at least 80 hours of work per month to remain eligible for benefits.

Biden is currently on a trip to Japan for the G7 summit, but is postponing his stops in Australia and Papua New Guinea to be back for final negotiations to avoid a default. Sen. Rick Scott has criticized the timing of the trip and called for Biden to stay in Washington to focus on the debt limit crisis. Republicans argue that work requirements will encourage Americans to find jobs and thereby reduce dependence on government-funded healthcare, while Democrats believe the requirements will harm those already vulnerable by increasing poverty and loss of healthcare coverage.

WATCH: Sen. Kennedy Rakes Silicon Valley Bank CEO Over the Coals in Brutal Questioning
Silicon Valley Bank's failure in March was due to the CEO's "stupid decisions" of not hedging the risk of higher interest rates and having 55% of assets in government bonds. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) grilled CEO Greg Becker for not accepting responsibility and blamed him for making taxpayers cover up for his "bone-deep, down-to-the-marrow stupid" mistake.

The Epoch Times: Senate Votes Against Biden DHS Loosening Migrant Public Charge Standards
Senate Votes Against Biden DHS Loosening Migrant Public Charge Standards
The Senate passed a resolution that could block the Biden administration's new, looser rule on migrants becoming public charges in America's welfare state. The law also prevents agencies from reissuing a rule "substantially the same" as the one that met with congressional disapproval. The White House Office of Management and Budget announced that President Biden would veto the legislation.

The Department of Homeland Security's new rule would eliminate from consideration the receipt of food stamps, Medicaid, and housing benefits for public charges. Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS head, announced his intent to address "violent extremism threats" within his new agency, citing Jan.6 as the impetus for his actions. Biden vetoed three bills and would veto this legislation, requiring both chambers to have two-thirds majorities to overcome it.

Prominent Kansas pro-life activist Mark Gietzen died in a plane crash in Nebraska while visiting his mother. He was 69 and the only person on the aircraft. Gietzen, who forced a recount of the state's abortion referendum last year, was a conservative Republican and chairman of Sedgwick County GOP. Fellow pro-life activist Troy Newman described him as irreplaceable and the hardest-working guy in the pro-life movement.

Fox News: Jonathan Turley takes media to task for Russiagate coverage: 'The most essential player in this conspiracy'
Jonathan Turley takes media to task for Russiagate coverage: 'The most essential player in this conspiracy'
Constitutional lawyer Jonathan Turley criticized the media for their role in promoting the Russia collusion theory, following the release of the Durham report which found that the Trump-Russia probe was launched illegitimately. Turley condemned the Clinton campaign, FBI and media for propagating the false claim of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and accused liberal pundits and press members of amplifying the Steele dossier as gospel. The media also glorified and employed those responsible for starting the years-long probe without accountability, Turley claimed.

Special Counsel John Durham found the Department of Justice and FBI "failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law" in launching the Trump-Russia investigation that never found any collusion. Trump welcomed the report and said that former FBI Director James Comey and Democrats should be held accountable for their "long-running and treasonous charade." However, the establishment media dismissed the report and its findings that debunked their beloved talking point. Joe Scarborough called it a "dud," while MSNBC's Andrew Weissmann called it a "big fat nothing," and Nicolle Wallace compared it to a "rabbit-hole conspiracy."

Chicago's largest newspaper blasts new left-wing mayor for day one 'disaster'
Chicago's new mayor, Brandon Johnson, has been criticized by the city's largest newspaper for signing "radical" executive orders benefiting unions just hours into his job. The Chicago Tribune editorial board labeled as a "disaster" an executive order that creates a new deputy mayor for labor relations, saying it could hurt the fiscal stability of the US' third-largest city. The board warned the job description is a "gift-wrapped present" for unions and needs to be rewritten. Johnson was backed by the Chicago Teachers Union, and his proposals for social program investments, including a head tax on large companies and a jet fuel tax, would require tax hikes.

Nevada Gov. Lombardo strikes down 3 gun control bills in first vetoes of session
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo vetoed three gun control bills, stating that he will not support legislation that infringes on the constitutional rights of Nevadans. One bill would have raised the age limit for semi-automatic shotguns and assault weapons possession to 21, while another sought to ban guns within 100 yards of an election site entrance. The third bill would have barred persons who received gross misdemeanors or felony convictions for hate crimes from owning firearms within a decade of their convictions.

Fox News: Spread of new abortion restrictions in South puts pressure on Virginia
Spread of new abortion restrictions in South puts pressure on Virginia
Virginia is set to remain an outlier in the south in terms of permissive abortion laws, while other states like South Carolina and North Carolina are passing new restrictions. South Carolina is about to introduce a ban on almost all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, with the state Senate predicted to pass it next week. The 12-week ban in North Carolina has also been passed after Republicans overrode the governor's veto, while abortion is already banned or severely restricted throughout pregnancy in several southern US states. Virginia's governor attempted to pass a 15-week ban this year, but it was narrowly defeated by the Democratic majority in the state Senate.

The Epoch Times: Democrat Bill Would Pack Supreme Court to Lessen Conservative Influence
Democrat Bill Would Pack Supreme Court to Lessen Conservative Influence
Democrats plan to add four more seats to the Supreme Court to end the conservative majority, according to a new bill. Democrats argue that Republicans broke the rules in their handling of Supreme Court nominees in recent years, and their success in placing two additional justices on the court represents a hijacking of democracy. Democrats want to pack the court to defend fundamental freedoms, including reproductive rights, workers’ rights, and civil rights, which they believe are under threat from a court now dominated by ideological militancy.

Team DeSantis throws shade at Trump following endorsements from 99 Florida lawmakers: 'Almost universal'
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received an endorsement from 99 lawmakers in the state legislature, causing tensions with former President Donald Trump's team. DeSantis' political team threw shade at Trump by using the phrase "almost universal" in their statement about the endorsements, a reference to Trump's similar claim in April. While DeSantis has not yet announced a run for president, polls show Trump as the current front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination.

American Thinker: On race, leftist white women are now being told to shut up and stand back
On race, leftist white women are now being told to shut up and stand back
Two women formed a nonprofit to combat racism and marketed themselves as a team to help corporations profile their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. When Black-led organizations encounter interference from white women, "white supremacy and emotional abuse get masked under kindness," said Michelle Saahene, who called DePino "manipulative." The women argued over money, and DePino's whiteness became a problem for Saahene who wanted to revel in her emotions while DePino wanted to run a business that capitalized on Floyd's death. The relationship fell apart, ultimately becoming petty, stupid, self-centered, and boring.

Popcorn and Inspiration: ‘You Can’t Take It With You’: What True Wealth Means
In Depression-era New York, Vanderhof’s household resists Kirby’s business ambitions, leading to a collision course between the two families. Tony falls for Vanderhof’s granddaughter, challenging Kirby to rethink his priorities. The film probes issues of class consciousness, what it means to be wealthy, and reinforces the importance of family and friends over wealth and status.

Despite an over-the-top storyline with fanciful scenes, the film packs enough to make you care about the delightfully contrasting families. With a tighter script, it could have showcased the interiority of vital characters instead of offering a snapshot of too many. Capra’s actors are believable no matter how improbable their actions, and they credibly live the overriding theme of the film - there’s more to life than money.

Minnesota lawmakers target Amazon, other warehouses with productivity quota regulations
Minnesota lawmakers have passed a bill to protect warehouse workers, including those at Amazon, who have to meet productivity quotas. Employers will now be required to provide a written description of any quotas, and can't take adverse action against workers who fail to meet an undisclosed quota. The bill also prohibits productivity quotas that prevent workers from taking breaks and allows for state investigations if a company's injury rate is 30% higher than peers. The bill mirrors laws passed in New York and California, and Gov. Tim Walz is expected to sign it.

Other brands, including Nike and Anthropologie, have also faced backlash for using male models to advertise women's products.

Missile Clash: Russia May Have Hit U.S. Patriot Battery After All
Unconfirmed reports claim that a Patriot Missile air defence system was "likely damaged" during a Russian missile barrage in Ukraine this week. The US and Ukraine are reportedly in discussions about repairing the system, but no official confirmation of the damage has been made. Reports suggest that the damage may have been caused by falling debris rather than a direct hit. The incident adds to the degree of "Cold War" tension between the two countries over missile capability with both sides claiming the superiority of their respective systems.

Montana becomes first state to ban TikTok; law likely to be challenged
Gov. Gianforte signed a measure that would completely ban TikTok in Montana, becoming the first state to do so. The ban is expected to be legally challenged and would serve as a testing ground for the TikTok-free America that many lawmakers have envisioned. Concerns from lawmakers and officials stem from potential Chinese government access to American citizen information and the spreading of propaganda.

Opponents argue that the ban is government overreach and easily circumvented. TikTok says it has a plan to protect U.S. users and vows to fight back against the ban. Meanwhile, the ACLU of Montana opposed the bill for being an unconstitutional restriction of free speech, citing small business owners who use the app for advertising.

Forbes: Railroad Legislation Misses The Mark
Railroad Legislation Misses The Mark
New legislation aimed at improving the safety of U.S. freight railroads, in response to recent derailments, would drive up shipping costs and have little impact on rail safety. The mandates include the installation of wheel bearing detectors and requiring two-man crews on all trains operated by Class I's. However, these detectors will become outdated and is being rapidly supplanted by onboard sensors. Meanwhile, there is no evidence that having two-man crews would prevent accidents, and it could deter railroads from implementing technology that could allow them to operate autonomous trains. The new rules would also result in more goods being transported via trucks, which pose a greater danger to U.S. residents than railroads.

Forbes: The Demand Latency Hangover
The Demand Latency Hangover
Retailers are experiencing a demand latency hangover resulting in profitability threats. This demand latency is the time from consumer demand shifts to visibility by a corporation to react in their supply chain, which can be weeks or even months. Traditional supply chain management solutions focus on mining historic demand patterns and are ineffective in translating shifts in markets at the speed of business, resulting in the supply being out of step with shifts in market demand.

Home Depot and Target are both experiencing a decline in sales due to a shift in consumer spending and not sensing the shift sooner to give better market guidance. Target's sales were flat, and their net earnings fell 90%, while Home Depot reported its biggest revenue miss in over 20 years. Less than 1% of companies use market drivers to manage demand flows and reduce demand latency, resulting in mistakes in investor forecasts, inventory holding strategies, and merchandising programs. A market-driven approach to demand management is required but requires admitting that most of the current systems and processes to manage demand are legacy requiring a refresh.

The Epoch Times: Saddleback Church Appealing Its Ouster From the Southern Baptists on Issue of Women Pastors
Saddleback Church Appealing Its Ouster From the Southern Baptists on Issue of Women Pastors
Saddleback Church has appealed its ouster from the Southern Baptist Convention over having women pastors on staff. The Convention’s Executive Committee decided to expel Saddleback after it ordained three women as pastors and Stacie Wood, wife of its lead pastor Andy Wood, took on the role of teaching pastor. The Convention claimed that Saddleback “has a faith and practice that does not closely identify with the Convention’s adopted statement of faith, as demonstrated by the church having a female teaching pastor functioning in the office of pastor.” Fern Creek Baptist Church, one of five congregations ousted over the issue of women as pastors, has also appealed its dismissal.

Under SBC bylaws, churches can appeal a dismissal by the Executive Committee to the full SBC annual meeting, which takes place next month in New Orleans. The SBC’s statement of faith states that men should be in authority in families and churches, and that “the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture”. Churches can still operate with women as pastors, but are deemed by the Convention to be “not in friendly cooperation with the Convention”. Saddleback’s appeal is one of the first in the history of the Southern Baptists. The SBC has been in membership decline for nearly two decades, with membership figures of 13.2 million in 2022 marking the lowest level seen since the late 1970s.

NIH Cuts Off Funding to Wuhan Lab at Center of COVID Leak Controversy
The Wuhan Institute of Virology has been removed from the list of foreign facilities eligible to conduct animal experiments on taxpayer dollars by the National Institute of Health (NIH). This move is a victory for Sen. Joni Ernst, a vocal critic of the NIH funding to Wuhan, who believes that China’s state-run Wuhan Institute of Virology should never have received US support for its dangerous experiments on bat coronaviruses. The Wuhan lab has a history of questionable lab safety practices and the NIH suspended funding to EcoHealth’s bat virus project after the pandemic broke out in China. The renewed grant has drawn criticism from Ernst, who wants to see permanent defunding of the New York organization, and Justin Goodman of White Coat Waste Project, a watchdog group that is “thrilled” to see the NIH’s “long overdue decision” to disqualify “white coats in Wuhan from future taxpayer funding.”

New York school district to keep 'Warriors' logo with Seneca Nation's blessing
The Seneca Nation has granted approval to a New York school district to continue the use of its Warrior nickname and logo for its sports teams. This comes despite a law in New York that bans sports teams from using Native American mascots and names absent tribal approval. The Salamanca school district is located on the Seneca Nation's Allegany Territory and has large percentages of Native American students and staff. "The regulations recently approved by the New York State Board of Regents and our history of co-existence with Salamanca gave us much to consider," said Seneca Nation President Rickey Armstrong Sr.

New York's Board of Regents recently prohibited public school districts from using Indigenous nicknames and mascots, but included an exception for districts that receive written approval from a federally recognized tribal nation in New York. Salamanca is the only US city built on land leased from a Native American reservation, and about 38% of students in the public school system are members of the 8,000-member Seneca tribe. Nationwide, 966 districts have Native American-themed mascots, with "Braves," "Chiefs," "Warriors," and "Indians" the most widely used, although there has been a push to do away with such mascots as they are viewed as promoting harmful stereotypes.
