Townhall: Biden to Illegals: Stop, or We'll Give You More Money
The immigration debate misses two key points: migrants have no right to come to our country, and Americans don't want them here. The media act as if every foreigner has a right to come here, but we have a right to decide who becomes our fellow citizen. We're tired of reading headlines that lament Americans' declining health, intelligence or economy, and expect us to be moved by the horrible conditions migrants are fleeing. They're coming from some of the most beautiful, resource-rich nations on the planet, and it's not our job to take them all in.
The Epoch Times: Court Backlog Clog: It’s the Story of Immigration Now and It’s Growing Inexorably Worse
The US immigration court system is already overstretched, with an average wait time of four and a half years for a court appearance; in New York, it is 11 years. The expiration of Title 42 will increase the number of migrants who enter and apply for asylum, leading to even longer waits. As the backlog worsens, judges cannot process cases effectively. Concerns grow over the cost to taxpayers and capacity of sheltering and supporting migrants in sanctuary cities. The Biden administration is releasing many migrants with the expectation they will report to immigration offices at their final destinations, causing many to live and work illegally.

Daily Wire: ‘I Just F***ed Up’: Court Reform Group Accidentally Leaks Donor List
Fix the Court, a group advocating for reform in the Supreme Court, accidentally leaked their donor list to the press. Executive Director Gabe Roth sent confidential tax forms to the Washington Examiner after misunderstanding filing instructions, revealing $290,000 in revenue from left-leaning non-profits, and jeopardizing donor relationships. Though not illegal, Roth's mistake could signal the end for Fix the Court.
Forbes: Trump Says DeSantis’ ‘Magic Is Gone’ After GOP Upset In Jacksonville Mayor’s Race
Former President Donald Trump taunted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Truth Social following the losses of two candidates backed by DeSantis in the Kentucky gubernatorial primary and a Florida mayoral race. DeSantis endorsed Kelly Craft, losing to Republican Daniel Cameron, and GOP mayoral candidate Daniel Davis, who was beaten by Democrat Donna Deegan, the city's first female mayor. The losses signal potential trouble for DeSantis, a growing Trump rival, and the race was significant for Trump after a string of high-profile defeats of his favored candidates.
Fox News: McCarthy rebrands looming debt ceiling breach: 'Biden default'
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy warns of a "Biden default" if an agreement on raising the debt limit is not reached in time. McCarthy and gathered Republicans suggest that Biden is ignoring the problem and would rather increase borrowing than impose work requirements on federal benefits. Despite the apparent progress, Republicans have made it clear that they will hold Biden responsible if a deal is not made by June 1.
Breitbart: State Republican Group Announces Legislative Targets for 2024 Cycle
The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) has announced its top legislative targets for the 2024 election cycle, with hopes to "expand and defend" Republican majorities in state legislatures nationwide. In 2023, the RSLC will focus on maintaining their majority in the Virginia House of Delegates and flipping control of the Virginia Senate. In 2024, the committee hopes to defend legislative chambers in six states and flip chambers in three other states, while also making "meaningful" gains in liberal strongholds.
The Epoch Times: Jacksonville Voters Elect Democrat Mayor Over Republican Endorsed by Ron DeSantis
Donna Deegan, a Democrat and retired journalist, won the mayoral race in Jacksonville, Florida, beating the Republican candidate Daniel Davis backed by Governor Ron DeSantis. The mayoral race, the most expensive in the city's history, had Deegan and Davis raising almost $11 million between them. While Davis raised and spent more money than Deegan, Deegan was leading in the polls since February. Deegan's victory was celebrated by the Duval County Democratic Party on social media, and some believe it dealt a blow to DeSantis's suspected presidential ambitions.
The Epoch Times: ‘The Hustler,’ the 1913 US Open, and the Debt Ceiling Negotiations
Debt ceiling negotiations resemble pool and golf matches, where pressure can lead to a competitor's breakdown. Francis Ouimet beat the world's best golfer and popularized the sport in America, while Eddie Felton in "The Hustler" collapsed under pressure and later overcame it to defeat Minnesota Fats. In negotiations, Speaker McCarthy advocates for serious negotiation, shocking Democrats and prompting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to join forces; a united GOP demands spending cuts and reforms to any debt ceiling increase, with President Biden finally starting to negotiate.
The Epoch Times: Biden Administration Says Nevada's Lithium Mine Project Can Continue After Court Ordered Review
The Biden administration has approved the construction of the Thacker Pass lithium mine in Nevada, despite legal opposition from tribal leaders and conservation groups. The Interior Department claims the move will clarify mineral rights under the 1872 law that provides an opportunity for US citizens to explore, discover, and purchase valuable minerals on federal lands for mining purposes. Almost all of the mine sites located in Nevada contain lithium for extraction, making it a key element for renewable energy. The decision is part of the administration’s “clean energy” agenda, designed to expedite a transition from fossil fuels to renewable forms of energy.

The Epoch Times: Rep. Gallagher Leads Select Committee Delegation to UK to Coordinate on China Issues
A Congressional delegation, led by Rep. Mike Gallagher, is visiting the UK to coordinate China policy. The Select Committee of Strategic Competition with the Chinese Communist Party members will meet with British defense officials and MPs to develop policies to counter the CCP's theft of critical defense technology and its efforts to insulate its economy. The UK has been slow to adopt a de-risking strategy like the US and Germany, with PM Rishi Sunak prioritizing economic engagement and reneging on his vow to categorize the CCP as a "threat." US is optimistic that shared values and strategic goals with the UK will win the day on investment issues with China.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US is seeking to de-risk and diversify its position without decoupling from the Chinese economy. Speaking at a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, Blinken said that the US cannot wait for China to abandon its authoritarian ways and must actively work to shape the strategic environment around the CCP. The Biden administration is investing more heavily in non-military elements of national power and aiming to offer a more compelling value proposition to stimulate a race to the top. Blinken said it is not demanding that countries "choose" between the US and China.

The Epoch Times: Air Passenger Complaints Balloon to a Record 46,000, Senate Committee Hears
The backlog of air passenger complaints in Canada has reached a record high of 46,000, causing concerns about the effectiveness of new legislation set to regulate passenger protection measures. The staggering complaints raise concerns about the government’s omnibus budget bill C-47, introduced by Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, which seeks to hold airlines accountable for settling passenger complaints within 30 days. However, the bill would apply only to complaints received once the new regime is in place, leaving the backlog unresolved.

The report found that 46% of these organisations plan to hire casual workers for managing short-term fluctuations in demand and reported increased wage growth. The public sector showed the highest percentage of recruitment intentions, while the private sector reported the highest recruitment difficulties due to a lack of availability of suitable candidates. While the wage growth is picking up, due to higher employment opportunities, households continue to face a higher cost of living crisis, with the inflation remaining high.
The Epoch Times: Postal Chief Says Service Is Better While Lawmakers Say There Is Still Work to Do
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy told the House Oversight Subcommittee that the USPS has made progress toward its 10-year strategic plan, Delivering for America, which aims to address the USPS's ongoing struggles. These struggles include a decrease in revenue and an increase in demand for mail delivery despite outdated infrastructure and an unrealistic pricing system. DeJoy said the USPS has cut its projected financial losses in half, from $160 billion to $70 billion, and is consolidating processing centers to improve rural service. However, Congress members expressed concerns over late deliveries, customer service, and the closure of local Post Offices, particularly in rural areas.

Fox News: Wisconsin Supreme Court rules woman too late to sue over 1990s sexual assaults
The Wisconsin Supreme Court denied a woman the right to sue an athletics organization for a sex abuse case from the 1990s involving a coach it employed. The court's conservative majority said the lawsuit was too late and overturned a lower court ruling that said it was allowed under state laws that give victims of child sexual assault until they are 35 years old to sue their abusers or a religious institution if their abuser was a clergy member.

Daily Wire: Retail Theft Is Driving A Shocking Amount Of Losses For Target, Executives Say
Target reports $500 million loss due to retail shrink, largely caused by theft and organized retail crime. Company CEO Brian Cornell calls it an urgent issue impacting product availability, store convenience and putting team and customers in harm's way. Industry associations are seeking federal resources to help combat these crimes, which are becoming increasingly brazen and violent. Target is investing in store security measures and seeking public policy changes to address the issue. Several major cities are experiencing store closures, raising concerns about the impact of law enforcement defunding.
The Epoch Times: Brazen Daylight Murder of Montreal Salon Owner Shows 'Arrogance' of Mafia: Expert
A Montreal salon owner, Claudia Iacono, was shot dead in broad daylight outside her salon, leaving Mafia experts to label the city's organized crime syndicate as ruthless. Montreal police found a 39-year-old woman shot in a car that had collided with a building; the car was parked in the outside lot of a salon that Iacono owned. Iacono was married to one of late mob boss Moreno Gallo's sons. Gallo was deported from Canada and killed in 2013 in Mexico. Retired Montreal police officer André Gélinas said that given the case touches on organized crime and involves a well-known family, there are people who likely know why it happened but won’t share with police. The incident shows a disregard for human life, he added.
The Epoch Times: Manitoba Aims to Turn Homes Tied to Suspected Crime Into Affordable Housing
The Manitoba government is offering six houses seized under the province’s Criminal Property Forfeiture Act for $1 each to an Indigenous or non-profit organisation, which will redevelop them as affordable homes for low and moderate-income individuals or families in the Point Douglas neighbourhood of Winnipeg. Normally, seized assets would be sold at market rates and proceeds distributed to victim service agencies, police and victims. The properties are evaluated between $75,000 and $215,000, according to a request for proposals issued by the government. The sale comes two years after Project Matriarch, a crackdown on drug production and trafficking in the neighbourhood.
The law allowing seizure of assets acquired through unlawful activity has led some lawyers to express concerns that assets can be seized even if the owner has not been convicted of a crime and that punishment may not always fit the crime. A judge only has to believe that the assets are connected to unlawful activity on the balance of probabilities, Newman said.

Her family asked for privacy and remembered Johnson as a devoted mother who deeply loved her children.

The Epoch Times: The Numbers Are In on How Biden-Era Funding Is Skewing Scientific Research Ever-Wokeward
The Biden administration is pushing record spending for research and development in line with their “whole of government” commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Recent grants and requests for proposals from the National Science Foundation (NSF) encompass research that examines biased artificial intelligence, minority experiences studying engineering, and equitable mathematics. However, critics claim such projects are outside the scope of the NSF and accuse the foundation of pushing a political agenda through projects that use terms such as “equity,” “inclusion,” and “diversity.” Such grants could be seen as academic reparations, with many seeing race as a frontier to be transformed and utilized as a tool for the government's social goal.

The Epoch Times: Be Your Garden's Bodyguard
Gardening can be challenging due to pests, environmental factors, and weather conditions. Regular inspections, using nontoxic treatments for pests and fungus, and addressing soil issues are critical. Protecting plants from critters can be done with repellents, fencing, and netting. Unexpected weather events like frost, wind, and heavy rain can be managed by watering plants, using cloches, and adding additional plant stakes or cover fabric.

The Epoch Times: Saskatchewan Premier Says Net Zero Plan by 2035 'Unrealistic'
Saskatchewan's Premier Scott Moe says his province cannot achieve net-zero emissions in power production by 2035, as set out by Canada's federal government. Moe said the federal target was unrealistic and unachievable without massive disruption. Instead, the province aims to achieve net zero by 2050 and build small modular nuclear reactors whilst expanding intermittent power sources like wind and solar. About 40% of Saskatchewan's electricity is produced from natural gas, 25% from burning coal, and 16% from hydro dams. The financial burden of trying to reach the federal target would be crushing, added Moe.
