The Epoch Times: North Carolina Lawmakers Override Veto to Enact 12-Week Abortion Ban
North Carolina's Republican-controlled General Assembly overrode Gov. Roy Cooper's veto to pass a bill prohibiting the majority of abortions after the 12-week mark. The legislation, known as the “Care for Women, Children, and Families Act,” enforces a ban on surgical abortions performed by licensed physicians after the 12th week of pregnancy. This law will become effective on July 1. The legislation further grants healthcare providers the right to refuse participation in abortion procedures on moral, ethical, or religious grounds. It also requires multiple in-person examinations by physicians before prescribing or administering abortion-inducing drugs.

Three Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sisters from the University of Wyoming filed a lawsuit against the sorority over the inclusion of a transgender member, who allegedly watched the sisters while having an erection. The sorority endorses diversity and does not discriminate based on any legal class but the sisters stated they were misled in joining a single-sex organization. The plaintiffs have witnessed extreme preferential treatment towards Artemis Langford, the transgender member, and seeking the importance of women's spaces.

Biden's inconsistent approach to China, which is based on bumper-sticker slogans such as “competing to coexist,” has led to contradictions regarding semiconductors and supply chains and failed to recognize that Xi is competing to win. The administration's fixation on guardrails means that Chinese passivity actively constrains US decision-making, while Xi is taking steps to ensure China comes out on top and soon, promoting an alternative international architecture that eschews universal values and excludes the United States.

Fox News: Bud Light sales down 23.6% in first week of May as backlash continues into fifth week amid Mulvaney fallout
Bud Light's sales continue to plummet for the fifth consecutive week after facing backlash over Dylan Mulvaney's partnership. Retail sales of Bud Light in the US fell by 23.6% compared to a year ago, surpassing the decline the brand saw last month. Anheuser-Busch, Bud Light's parent company, also saw significant declines in year-over-year sales of its other products. Bump Williams Consulting revealed that total sales for Bud Light alone had fallen by 8% this year, costing the company approximately $5bn in losses. HSBC also downgraded Anheuser-Busch stock to hold early in May due to the “crisis” affiliated with the brand's controversial marketing campaign, prompting calls for boycotts.

Forbes: Court Rejects Elizabeth Holmes’ Plea To Avoid Prison During Appeal
Elizabeth Holmes, former CEO of Theranos, has been denied her request to stay out of prison while she appeals her fraud conviction. The federal Ninth Circuit appeals court has stated that her plea didn't raise a substantial question of law, and noted that even if she were to win her appeal, it is unlikely she could overturn the conviction or avoid prison. The former billionaire faces more than 11 years in prison, alongside paying a total of $452m in restitution to investors who were affected by the "fraud conspiracy."
