Breitbart: Thousands of Iraqi and Iranians to Have Asylum Claims 'Fast-Tracked'
Thousands of Iraqi and Iranians to Have Asylum Claims 'Fast-Tracked'
The UK Home Office will fast-track the asylum claims of 20,000 Iraqi and Iranian migrants who will either be interviewed or sent a targeted or shorter questionnaire regarding their status. Previous similar schemes have streamlined rights for migrants from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Libya, Syria, and Yemen. The move comes as the backlog of asylum applications reaches 92,601 due in part to boat migration via the English Channel. Those that fail to properly fill in questionnaires within 30 days risk being rejected. According to The Times, immigration officials were forced to conduct interviews during a previous scheme after just 10% of questionnaires were correctly completed. Lawyers may have encouraged incorrect completion to trigger interviews. Those required to be interviewed are expected to be quizzed for 30 minutes to two hours.

In Emergency Order, Eric Adams Suspends Public Hearings Over Migrant Housing Plans
New York City Mayor Eric Adams suspends land use review procedures, including public hearings with city residents, to expedite the search for housing for illegal immigrants coming to the city. The move comes as the city faces growing backlash over its handling of the influx of migrants and a growing "humanitarian crisis." Many residents are protesting the city's decision to potentially house migrants in neighborhoods and schools, with parents concerned over the safety of students.

New York Mayor Declares Texas A Sanctuary State For Immigrants
New York Mayor Eric Adams has declared Texas a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants, fulfilling his campaign promise to help vulnerable groups regardless of their legal status. He bused immigrants to non-sanctuary towns, filling elementary schools and drew criticism which he shut down by saying, “I’m a democrat.” At the same time, Mayor Adams unveiled a newly refurbished Statue of Liberty that held a giant arrow pointing West that said "New York Is Thataway."

Over 100,00 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2022, CDC says
Over 100,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2022, making it the deadliest year on record. Overdose deaths have reached a plateau but are still a crisis. The proliferation of deadly fentanyl among drug traffickers and illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border contributed to the crisis. It has also strained relations between China and the U.S. as China is the source of much of the fentanyl trafficked into the U.S.

Another suburban New York community declares emergency as Adams to bus migrants from NYC to Long Island
Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar declared a state of emergency in response to reports that New York City Mayor Eric Adams plans to bus migrants to Long Island. Adams reportedly reached out to hotels and motels in Riverhead to accommodate the migrants, with the city paying for their housing for up to a year. Aguiar said that Riverhead has already done more than its share when it comes to housing the homeless and providing affordable housing. Other suburban communities, such as Rockland and Orange counties, have also sued the Adams administration for its plans to house migrants in their Republican-controlled jurisdictions and at hotels.

The New American: The Age of Democracy Ushered in the Age of Degeneracy
The Age of Democracy Ushered in the Age of Degeneracy
Since the end of World War II, the Western world has been in the "Age of Democracy"; however, this has also led to the decay of society. The adoption of Democracy by all European nations is fatal to good governance, liberty, law and order, respect for authority, and religion; it must eventually produce chaos from which a new world tyranny will arise. Democracy is a form of idolatry that supplants the laws of God with the desires of man, and this inevitably leads to degeneracy .

The United States was framed, under the Constitution, as a republic, not a democracy. A republic is rule by law, and in the United States, that means the Constitution. The will of the majority is sometimes thwarted if what the majority wants is unconstitutional. The Framers embedded this feature into the federal government to protect all Americans' rights, including those of the minority. Democracy and Christian society are incompatible, and if Western civilization is to be saved from self-destruction, democracy must be done away with .

Joe Manchin Unexpectedly Blocks Biden Nominee Slated to Oversee Admin's War on Gas Stoves
Senator Manchin unexpectedly pulled the agenda item concerning Jeff Marootian's nomination to head the DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, citing his reservations about the office's stove efficiency rules. The decision represents a critical juncture in the Biden administration's efforts to fill a key post integral to their energy agenda, with dissent even from Democrats like Manchin. The DOE has implemented several energy efficiency regulations affecting appliances, including natural gas-powered stovetops since Marootian began advising Granholm, drawing criticism from consumer groups.

Embattled Soros-Backed U.S. Attorney Resigns Following DOJ Ethics Investigation
Rollins, a George Soros-backed U.S. attorney, has announced she will resign just as a Department of Justice investigation concluded she broke campaign finance laws and lied under oath. The Senate voted to confirm Rollins along party lines in 2021, but Republicans opposed her nomination citing her history of not prosecuting crimes. Her resignation could be seen as a setback for Soros, who has funded campaigns for progressive prosecutors around the country.

GOP Rep. Nancy Mace Suggests She'll Back Nikki Haley for President
Rep. Nancy Mace hinted that she will endorse former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for president in 2024. She hopes to see a woman on the presidential ticket and is proud of the shattering of the glass ceilings by Haley. She admires Sen. Tim Scott, who is also running for the presidential race. Mace said that she will wait to see how the field takes shape, and there are already a number of GOP presidential candidates including former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. She also expressed her concern about the GOP's handling of the abortion issue and gun violence.

The Corner: Could Joe Manchin Become the H. Ross Perot of 2024?
The 2024 Democratic ticket is likely to be Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, with potential for Harris to take over if Biden cannot finish his term. The Republican ticket is likely to be Trump or DeSantis, with Trump reportedly wanting a female running mate like Kari Lake. No Labels aims to fund a major independent bid for the presidency, with supporters like Joe Manchin and Larry Hogan not ruling out participating. Manchin may conclude an independent presidential bid is more exciting than a Senate reelection bid and would likely tap a center-right Republican as his running mate, setting up a three-way race between Biden-Harris, Trump-Lake, and Manchin-Collins/Hogan/Murkowski.

The Epoch Times: Sunak Abandons Campaign Pledge to Ban Confucius Institutes
Sunak Abandons Campaign Pledge to Ban Confucius Institutes
Despite previous promises made by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to ban Confucius Institutes in the UK, Downing Street has now confirmed that the government will not be banning them but instead taking away government funding. Confucius Institutes are Chinese state-sponsored organisations accused of censoring speech, discrimination against Chinese minorities, propagating communist ideology, and undue influence on their host institutions. Critics have stated that the institutes spy on Chinese and Hong Kong students and track and watch them, feeding back to China. Some institutes have been closed in Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland, but most U.S. branches were only shut down after they were designated as a Foreign Mission. Chinese hawks have been disappointed with the announcement despite a new law which is likely to "spell the end of Confucius Institutes."

CCP Pressured Bio Labs to Produce Breakthroughs ahead of Covid Outbreak Despite Safety Concerns, Rubio Report Says
A report released by Senator Marco Rubio’s office suggests that Covid-19 may have originated from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). The report examined China’s history of bioweapons research and the CCP’s response to the pandemic, arguing that the lab-leak theory is the most plausible explanation. The report found that the CCP exerted political pressure on WIV to produce technological breakthroughs, even as the institute struggled with underfunding, understaffing, and safety concerns.

The Economist: Truss Tour: 2023
Truss Tour: 2023
Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss is on a global tour, calling on Western leaders to stand up to China. Despite her failed Premiership record, Truss is afforded the same protection as other former prime ministers while she travels from Copenhagen to Taipei. During her tour, she has called for the formation of an “economic NATO” to face up to China and warned that the West is already in a “cold war” with China. Truss is emblematic of deeper problems in the Conservative Party, where an epidemic of learned helplessness dogs the cabinet, with ministers more prone to moaning than solving problems.

Turkey protests as German police search homes of 2 journalists working for a Turkish newspaper
German police searched the homes of two journalists for a Turkish newspaper as part of an investigation of suspicions of "compromising dissemination of personal data." Turkey's Foreign Ministry protested the operation and accused German authorities of harassment and intimidation against the Turkish media. The journalists were allegedly targeted by a "false denunciation" from a member of a network linked to U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen. Turkey considers the network to be a terrorist organization and blames Gulen for a failed coup in 2016.

Former CEOs of failed American banks testified before the House Financial Services panel, with the former head of First Republic blaming Silicon Valley and Signature for "contaminating" his firm, and social media and media outlets for deposit flight. Representative Brad Sherman called the failed banks "three of the worst-run banks in America," with their failures attributed to "recklessness and greed." JPMorgan acquired most of First Republic's assets and deposits on 1 May, ending a two-month-long saga that began with Signature and Silicon Valley's failures, and billions in deposits leaving First Republic. Regional banks that weathered the storm, including Western Alliance, PacWest and Comerica, all saw significant stock price gains.

Researchers use AI to understand Alzheimer's disease, identify drug targets
Researchers from the University of Arizona are using artificial intelligence to trace the molecular path from health to Alzheimer's disease progression. The team looked into molecular changes that healthy neurons undergo and drew from information about genetic processes. They now have the ability to follow the sequential changes in genes' relationships as Alzheimer's develops, giving them hints about the disease's origins and new pathways or combinations of pathways to develop treatment for Alzheimer's. The AI also flagged 19 neuron-specific genetic points on the Alzheimer's pathway that appeared to cause the disease to progress.

Musk Warns There's a Chance AI 'Goes Wrong and Destroys Humanity’
Elon Musk warns that AI could destroy humanity, but hopes to minimize the probability of this happening. Musk invested $50 million in OpenAI but expressed regret over its change to a for-profit company with closed-source software. He recently founded his own AI company, X.AI Corp., with plans to create an "everything app" modeled after Chinese messaging app WeChat. Twitter, which Musk also owns, has been incorporated into X Corp. and acquired job-matching platform Laskie. Concerns have been raised about user privacy and government censorship with apps like WeChat.

The American Mind: Black-Boxing Democracy
Black-Boxing Democracy
Veteran of the War on Terror warns of the irreversible effects of AI's increasing influence on politics and democracy. Data-driven warfare in Afghanistan revealed how AI could fill strategic voids, but ultimately failed and outsourced fundamental responsibilities of statecraft to machines. Applications of AI that invisibly alter perception and reality make it impossible for individuals to participate in their own government and promote their own interests, and undermines faith in the capacity for reasoned action. While there is a vital national interest to promote the advancement of AI, the primary use of AI by the government has been as a political weapon for censorship, and increasing regulation will only lead to even more powerful tools of censorship and social control.

The Big Climate Change Lie: The CO2 Risk to the Planet
The claim that rising CO2 levels are causing catastrophic climate change is based on lies and half-truths. CO2 levels have been much higher in prior epochs, yet the correlation between CO2 and rising global temperatures is simply not there. CO2 is actually good for the planet and helps to solve food shortages. Efforts to replace gas-powered cars with electric vehicles and reduce farming and farm animals involve drastic and inhumane measures that are not based on fact, and do not reflect a reality in which Earth was designed for humanity to thrive.
