Fox News: Former NYC council chair condemns 'failure' of federal government in city's migrant crisis: 'Toxic situation'
Former NYC Council Chair Corey Johnson says the city's migrant crisis is due to the federal government's failure. Johnson responded to Mayor Eric Adams's plan to house migrants in school gyms and the protests it sparked from parents. He pointed out that the situation shows a lack of coordination and support from the federal level, adding that FEMA has only awarded $30 million to NYC despite the costs to house 62,000 migrants being over $1 billion. Johnson supports Adams's request for help from the Biden administration as the crisis is unsustainable.
Johnson also criticized Republican-led counties opposing Adams's plan and using FEMA money for bus and plane tickets instead of migrant help. He emphasized that NYC welcomes immigrants and is a sanctuary city, but the crisis, driven by violence in Central America and Mexico, has become overwhelming. Johnson calls for coordination and federal help, saying that Adams is doing his best in a difficult situation. Gov. Kathy Hochul said that while the migrant numbers are going down, NYC is already bursting at the seams with over 61,000 migrants, and Adams needs help.

The Epoch Times: Scottish Conservatives Call for Inquiry Into SNP Finance Investigation
The Scottish Conservatives have called for an inquiry into possible fundraising fraud by the Scottish National Party (SNP) and its ongoing investigation under Operation Branchform. The party's chief whip, Alexander Burnet, wrote to the Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone proposing a new committee to investigate the matter. The call comes after the arrests of two senior SNP officials, former Chief Executive Peter Murrell and former Treasurer Colin Beattie, in connection with Operation Branchform in April 2023. The SNP has denied claims that money raised for independence campaigning was diverted elsewhere. The Scottish Conservatives have cited precedent in establishing a committee before a criminal investigation concludes, as with the inquiry into the Scottish government's handling of complaints against former First Minister Alex Salmond.

National Review: The Corner: What Is Daniel Goldman Talking About?
Democratic Congressman Daniel Goldman verbally attacked journalist Julio Rosas, dismissing his credibility ahead of his testimony during a House Homeland Security subcommittee hearing on domestic political extremism. Goldman mocked Rosas, who was set to share his experiences covering the 2020 riots, and misrepresented FBI Director Christopher Wray's comments on the militant group Antifa. While Republicans cited the damage wrought by riots in their argument, Democrats countered with FBI statistics indicating that violent white nationalism presents an even greater danger. Daily Wire: House Chairman Demands IRS Chief Answer For Alleged Hunter Biden Probe Shakeup
Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) is requesting an “urgent briefing” from IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel’s office to address concerns about possible retaliation against a whistleblower in the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden. Lawyers within the agency have claimed that the whistleblower's team has been removed from the case at the request of the Department of Justice, which could be "obstruction of a congressional inquiry" and "statutory violation of protections for whistleblowers”. Biden and his father, President Joe Biden, maintain that the younger Biden has done nothing wrong.
The IRS is committed to protecting whistleblowers and has rigorous processes in place to do so, according to a statement. The IRS has yet to address the latest claims directly. The Justice Department had referred to Delaware's U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who has yet to speak on the matter. Smith requested a briefing from IRS Commissioner by 5 p.m. on Thursday or more committee action may occur, he warned.

Spectator USA: Byron’s mistress Lady Caroline Lamb scandalizes society
Lady Antonia Fraser's biography of Lady Caroline Lamb is an accomplished work that defends and critiques Lamb's behaviour. The book highlights the hypocrisies and double standards of the patriarchal society of the early nineteenth century, in which women were encouraged to be sexual while men still held the reputational power. Caro challenged this society, as shown through her dressing up as a page boy, which excited bisexual Lord Byron and showcased Caro's wish for the freedom that male attire represented. Fraser's nuanced account is both fresh and vital, skewering the men who come across poorly, while redeeming Caro, who was "an unusual, intelligent and independent woman, afraid of nothing (except the absence of love)."

Black crime victims and their families are disproportionately denied compensation in many states across the U.S. Experts say the reasons are complex, but common factors include biases in police reports, employee biases, and outdated guidelines. Black and brown applicants face more scrutiny because of implicit biases, and denial rates for Black and white applicants often differ for subjective reasons, such as whether they may have said or done something to provoke a violent crime. Compensation programs are beginning to scrutinize how their policies affect people of color.

Fox News: Searing Asian heat wave was substantially more likely due to climate change, according to study
A heat wave in southern Asia last April was made at least 30 times more likely by climate change, according to a study by international scientists. Temperatures of up to 113°F in parts of India, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Laos caused numerous deaths and hospitalizations and led to damaged roads, fires, and widespread school closures. Temperatures were at least 3.6°F hotter in the region due to global warming, and the April heatwave could occur every one to two years in India and Bangladesh if global average temperatures reach 2°C warmer than they were in the late 1800s. The region is among the most vulnerable to climate change, but India is also the third highest emitter of planet-warming gases.
