Human Events: WaPo says Mexico is too dangerous a place for illegal immigrants
to wait for US asylum until claims are processed
The Washington Post argues that Mexico is too dangerous for illegal immigrants seeking asylum, and the US should not exacerbate the situation by forcing them to wait there. The Post describes the current situation at the US-Mexico border as a humanitarian crisis and suggests that it is incumbent on the US to take care of those stuck on the Mexican side of the border. The outlet appeals to emotions, citing the dire conditions faced by impoverished and forgotten immigrants stuck on the banks of the Rio Grande and suggesting that the US needs to find better ways to expedite asylum claims and guarantee minimum security and dignity for those seeking asylum. The post does not lay blame on the Mexican government for its seeming inability to manage its own people.
The Epoch Times: NYC Mayor Eric Adams Considering Converting 20 School Gyms to Shelters for Illegal Immigrants
NYC Mayor Eric Adams plans to turn up to 20 gymnasiums linked to public schools into shelters for illegal immigrants. The standalone gymnasiums will be used to accommodate those arriving in the city as New York took in approximately 4,200 new illegal immigrants in the past week. The move has raised concerns from local parents about child safety and how the plan could disrupt education. At present, it is not clear whether the selected gymnasiums are located on campuses shared with any public schools. Despite criticism, Adams plans to move forward with his "decompression" strategy to relocate illegal immigrants from New York City to neighboring areas of New York State.
The Federalist Papers: Biden's Border Disaster Ruins This Couples Wedding: Kicked Out of Hotel for Migrants
Gary Moretti and Deanna Mifsud had to scramble to find alternative lodgings for their wedding guests when The Crossroads Hotel cancelled their 30-room block booking at short notice to accommodate migrants being relocated from New York City to the area under the directive of Mayor Eric Adams. The couple, who had received no prior warning of the cancellation, said the hotel management told them they were helpless to alter the situation, describing the scene at the premises as a "complete madhouse". Despite efforts to find another solution, the wedding budget has been further strained by exorbitant rates charged by available hotels.

The bill, known as SB20, also provides support for maternal healthcare, foster care, contraception, and community college tuition and job placement supports to ensure that women and their children have choices, protections and pathways to success. SB20 also includes important protections for mothers and children by keeping weapons out of the hands of domestic abusers and ensuring sexual child predators have lifetime GPS monitoring and tracking.

Breitbart: Nigeria: Islamist Herdsmen Kill Dozens in Latest Anti-Christian Massacre
Nomadic herdsmen have undertaken a series of attacks on four villages in the Nigerian state of Nasarawa, resulting in at least 15 deaths, with some sources indicating the number could be as high as 38. The group's anger was apparently sparked by the killing of an 18-year-old herdsman with a machete. The situation is part of a long-running conflict between Muslim Fulani herders and Christian farmers. The Biden administration controversially removed Nigeria from its list of countries that violate religious freedoms despite Christian claims that the conflict has such a dimension. The herders were initially grazing their animals on farmland, subsequently destroying crops. The conflict escalated and spread to the neighbouring area resulting in the attacks.

The Epoch Times: Kyiv Rejects Russian Claims That Hypersonic Missile Destroyed US Patriot Battery
Ukrainian officials deny Russian claims that a US-supplied Patriot air-defense system was destroyed by a hypersonic missile called Kinzhal, stating that it is impossible. The Kinzhals are highly maneuverable, difficult to intercept missiles said to have an exceptionally low radar signature, making them difficult to defend against. Kyiv also recently claimed that Ukrainian air defenses had successfully downed six Kinzhal missiles in a single night. Russian officials have dismissed these claims, describing them as “wishful thinking”, with Western-supplied air-defense systems potentially counterintuitive to the Kinzhal missile type.

The Epoch Times: The New Global Battlefield: Eurasia’s Reemerging Heartland
Central Asian leaders will attend a summit in Xi'an with China's President Xi Jinping. Washington Free Beacon: Papua New Guinea Declared National Holiday for Biden’s Visit. Then He Canceled.
U.S. President Joe Biden's cancelled visit to Papua New Guinea, which had declared next Monday a public holiday in honor of his arrival, has dealt a blow to U.S. credibility in the Pacific island region, analysts said on Wednesday. The unfolding crisis over the U.S. debt ceiling prompted Biden to postpone plans to visit Papua New Guinea and Australia, cutting short an upcoming Asia trip so he can return to Washington. Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape told a radio audience a day earlier that his government was preparing to sign a major defence pact with the United States and a security agreement allowing U.S. Coast Guard vessels to patrol it waters. Biden had also been scheduled to meet 18 Pacific island leaders in the three-hour visit to the PNG capital Port Moresby.
The Epoch Times: MP Chong Says He Has Received Multiple Personal Threats Believed to Come From Beijing
Conservative MP Michael Chong reported personal threats that he suspects were orchestrated by Beijing, including those made against his family overseas. Though he could not say for sure if the threats were from Beijing, Chong has reported them to national security agencies and local police. Chong previously reported personal threats and received a general briefing on foreign interference activity from CSIS in 2021. His prior reporting to CSIS may explain why he had more meetings with them in the same year. The alleged targeting of Chong’s family members in Hong Kong was carried out in response to his sponsorship of a House of Commons motion declaring China’s treatment of Uyghurs a genocide. The government has formally directed CSIS to investigate foreign threats against parliamentarians and their families.
The Epoch Times: Fauci, Scientists With Ties to Chinese Laboratory Briefed Intelligence Officials on Origins of COVID-19: Documents
Dr. Anthony Fauci and other scientists connected to the Wuhan lab briefed top US intelligence officials about the origins of COVID-19 in early 2020, according to newly obtained emails. The briefing was held on Feb. 3, 2020, with officials with the FBI and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence attending. While it was established that the virus was related to a coronavirus collected from bats in China, the briefing did not mention the Wuhan lab or the possibility that the virus may have come from there. The newly released emails suggest that Fauci and conflicted scientists with ties to the Wuhan Institute of Virology maneuvered the Intelligence Community and the White House into a false and premature conclusion that COVID-19 had a natural origin.

The Epoch Times: Cryptocurrency Trading Should Be Regulated as Gambling, Says UK Treasury Committee
The UK Treasury Committee has called for unbacked crypto assets to be regulated as gambling, given their risk and lack of social purpose, but acknowledged their value in financial markets for cross-border transactions and in less developed countries. The committee cited their use by criminals for fraud and highlighted the need for effective regulation to protect consumers and foster innovation in the financial services industry. The proposals would place responsibility on crypto trading exchanges and enable businesses registered with the Financial Conduct Authority to issue their own promotions. Around 10% of UK adults hold or have held cryptocurrencies, according to HM Revenue and Customs.

A hearing on the church's motion is scheduled for Thursday, while lawmakers have requested the publication of the manifesto, saying it is critical to their being able to stop more incidents.

Breitbart: State 28? Constitutional Carry on the Move in Louisiana
Louisiana is moving to become the 28th state to allow permitless concealed carry of firearms under constitutional carry laws. The bill, which has passed out of committee and was vetoed previously by the governor, would allow any law-abiding gun owner over 18 to carry a concealed handgun in the state. Louisiana already allows open carry without mandatory training, and lawmakers argue that allowing concealed carry would not cause chaos or harm public safety.
