Townhall: Democrats' New Rule: Migrants First, Everyone Last
New York City mayor Eric Adams has been housing migrants in upscale motels in Newburgh, Orangetown, and Yonkers. The motels have been happy to clear their rooms for above-market rates of $8,000 per room, per month, and struggling homeless veterans have been displaced in the process.
Local leaders have been fighting back against Adams' takeover of hotels and motels in their counties, with some going as far as to argue in court that Adams doesn't have the right to set up shelters outside of New York City. Adams' city budget for the coming fiscal year cuts every department, including police protection and education, to offset spending on migrants. The generous handouts to migrants are causing resentment amongst some residents in New York City as they see migrants receiving luxury accommodations and free housing while other residents struggle to make ends meet.

The US government has been trying to extradite Ahlam al-Tamimi for five years following her role in a deadly terrorist attack, but Jordan has refused to comply. Despite being on the receiving end of a considerable aid package, Jordan continues to refuse to extradite the terrorist, prompting calls from US politicians to withdraw funding from the country. Yael Lempert, the latest nominee for the US Ambassador to Jordan, has been asked by Senator Ted Cruz whether she would recommend withholding aid to the country in order to receive their cooperation on the issue.
Ahlam al-Tamimi orchestrated the Sbarro Pizzeria bombing in Jerusalem, in which 15 people were killed, including two US citizens and eight children. Following her sentencing to 16 consecutive life terms, she was released in 2011 in exchange for Israeli Gilad Shalit. Tamimi has since celebrated her newfound fame, hosting her own television program and travelling extensively to address enthusiastic audiences with a message of incitement and antisemitism. Despite the extensive efforts of the US government, Jordan continues to protect the terrorist and forbid her extradition. Advocates are calling for aid funding to be reduced or eliminated until the country honours its obligations.

Turkey's presidential election will go to a runoff on May 28 as neither Recep Tayyip Erdogan nor his main opponent, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, got more than 50% of the vote. Despite influential voices, such as Meral Aksener from the opposition Iyi Party, warning that Erdogan had the advantage, media outlets and policy analysts overwhelmingly predicted a win for Kilicdaroglu. The result has prompted calls for analysts to be held accountable for their mistakes and for more attention to be paid to Erdogan's advantages and Kilicdaroglu's weaknesses.

Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida visited Iowa this past weekend, where he made several impressive speeches and stirred up a lot of support. His campaign events went off smoothly and gained a lot of attention, while former President Donald Trump's planned event was cancelled due to threats of a tornado warning. DeSantis seized this opportunity to make an unscheduled stop in the same area, impressing his supporters and causing frustration among press members. Many voters are impressed with his abilities and may consider him a strong contender in future political contests.

The progressive left has instituted the LGBTQ agenda into education policies, including counseling and extracurricular programs, graduation requirements and suicide prevention programs, leaving many schools under the influence.
