The Epoch Times: White House Ignores Key Question on Biden's Knowledge of Son's Business Dealings as House GOP Turns Up Heat
White House Ignores Key Question on Biden's Knowledge of Son's Business Dealings as House GOP Turns Up Heat
The Epoch Times has repeatedly requested White House spokesperson Ian Sams to reconcile two statements made by President Joe Biden concerning his son Hunter's overseas business dealings but has not received a response. The first statement came during the 2019 campaign when Biden stated he had never talked to his son about his business dealings, while the second was during the last presidential debate with then-President Donald Trump in 2020 when Biden claimed his son "has not made money in terms of this thing about, what are you talking about, China." The Epoch Times has asked Sams to explain the contradiction. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability released a 36-page memorandum detailing the committee's findings showing Biden family connected companies received at least $10 million from foreign sources, including China and Romania, while Joe Biden was Vice President.

A subpoena was issued by the FBI to produce an FT-1023 report regarding a bribery deal that allegedly took place when Biden was Vice President. Comer, working with Sen. Charles Grassley, mentioned the FBI failed to produce the requested document, which Grassley claimed indicates the unclassified FBI document in question is real. A group known as Facts First USA accused Comer of lying and his investigation relied upon a nonexistent informant. It was revealed that David Brock, a longtime Democratic activist and media provocateur, led Facts First USA in preparation for Republican investigations of Biden.

The district is currently represented by Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito. Hughes is expected to formally announce her campaign in the next few weeks. The campaign website for Hughes highlights her desire for Long Island to be a great place to live and raise a family. She is advocating for coming together and doing things differently as part of the solution. Democrats believe they stand a good chance of winning back the seat next election.

Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins is resigning due to a DOJ ethics investigation into her appearance at a Biden fundraiser and other issues. Rollins' attorney said she is proud of the work her office has accomplished, but understands that her presence has become a distraction. Rollins faced fierce pushback from Republicans after being nominated in January 2021 due to her policy of declining to prosecute low-level offenses.

Mark Levin: FBI Needs to Have Its Budget Slashed — It Needs to Be Broken Down and Rebuilt
Mark Levin reacts to the Durham report critical of the FBI’s handling of the Trump campaign-Russia collusion investigation, suggesting budget cuts and reform for the FBI. He believes the FBI works for the Democratic Party and sabotages Republicans and protect Democrats. Levin states that the FBI ignored evidence and falsified information, while promoting bureaucracy and regulations. He suggests slashing the FBI’s budget and breaking them down to be rebuilt with complete Congressional oversight. Levin believes that Democrats are fine with the FBI as it is their Stasi.

The Epoch Times: US Citizen and Pro-Beijing Overseas Chinese Leader Sentenced to Life in Prison in China
US Citizen and Pro-Beijing Overseas Chinese Leader Sentenced to Life in Prison in China
John Shing-Wan Leung, a pro-Chinese Communist Party (CCP) overseas leader in Texas, has been sentenced to life imprisonment on espionage charges in Suzhou, China. Leung was sentenced by the CCP's Suzhou Intermediate People's Court for espionage and had personal property worth 500,000 yuan ($71,916) confiscated. The CCP publicized Leung's personal information and several associations, founded by Leung himself, had issued statements to support China's Hong Kong National Security Law in 2020. The new Anti-Espionage Law of China, with an expanded definition of 71 articles, will come into effect on July 1, and Lai Jianping, a former lawyer, stated that foreigners doing normal businesses can be classified as collecting intelligence under this law.

Leung actively supported the CCP and Chinese government's policies including the Hong Kong National Security Law and the "one country, two systems" policy, as well as promoting U.S.-China cultural exchange activities. Wong Wai-kwok, a UK-based political scholar, highlighted three unusual aspects of the case; Leung is a U.S. citizen, not Hong Kong, Leung is a Hong Kong "patriot," and the CCP's espionage charge may cause cautionary effects on other Hong Kong "patriots" and those working as CCP spies. The newly approved Anti-Espionage Law broadens the definition of espionage and makes it increasingly vague, subject to the arbitrary interpretation of Chinese authorities. Dong Yuyu, a former senior editor of Guangming Daily, was also charged with espionage in 2022.

Dem Senator Called an 'Insurrectionist' After He Lets Mask Slip and Declares an Entire Branch of Government 'Illegitimate'
A sitting senator, Chris Murphy, called the Supreme Court "pretty illegitimate" and predicted a "popular revolt" if Democrats don't get their way with gun control laws. Conservative critics find the senator's action more dangerous than the Democrats' accusation of insurrection from Donald Trump's supporters. While Democrats pretended to revere the court's standing in the Constitution during the decades of liberal control, attacks on the court from the left have been increasing since Donald Trump changed the court's makeup, including an assassination attempt. Democrats are more interested in power than resolving constitutional questions.

Squad Dems Vote Against Resolution Honoring Fallen Police
"Squad" Democrats Tlaib and Bush voted against a resolution honoring fallen police officers, calling it a "false narrative" pushed by Republicans. The resolution passed 413-2 and honored 556 officers who died in the line of duty. Tlaib and Bush have both expressed support for defunding the police in the past and justified their rejection by citing Republicans' alleged targeting of law enforcement agencies. The "Squad" recently came under scrutiny for spending $1 million on private security while pushing for police defunding measures.

The Epoch Times: IN-DEPTH: Nothing to Stop FBI From Mistreating Trump Campaign Again in 2024, Durham Report Suggests
IN-DEPTH: Nothing to Stop FBI From Mistreating Trump Campaign Again in 2024, Durham Report Suggests
Ahead of the 2016 US presidential election, the FBI was informed that a foreign government had plans to donate to the Clinton campaign to gain influence if she won, prompting an investigation. Conversely, when a tip was received about the Trump campaign a year later, the FBI opened a full investigation and did not consider providing defensive briefings. This disparate treatment of the two probes perplexed special counsel John Durham, who highlighted the bias and special treatment of Clinton. In Durham’s four examples of disparate treatment that favoured Clinton, the FBI failed to pursue investigative referrals with the same rigor it focused on Trump. Categorized as , this article warns that the FBI’s history of handling the Trump and Clinton investigations suggests little is being done to prevent a repeat.

The Epoch Times: What Durham Didn't Tell Us
What Durham Didn't Tell Us
The FBI opened an investigation into the Trump campaign entirely without reason and the agency protected Hillary Clinton’s campaign at the same time they aggressively pursued Donald Trump. Special Counsel John Durham’s report confirms our previous understanding of the FBI’s efforts to hinder the Trump campaign in order to help Clinton, but it is deeply flawed. There are no convictions or referrals of major Russiagate plotters and players. Without criminal referrals, there will be no change .

Durham’s report is narrowly focused on the many faults of the FBI without examining events beyond early 2017. The report lacks crucial information, such as any criminal referrals or pending indictments of those involved in the Russia collusion hoax and any mention of high-level events like the White House meeting on Jan. 5, 2017, directly implicating Obama and now-President Joe Biden. Durham’s report proves the FBI was conducting an operation, not an investigation, and was entirely politicized against Trump by members of the intelligence community who had aligned themselves politically with the Clinton campaign .

Foreign Policy: LGBTQ Spaces Are Shrinking in China
LGBTQ Spaces Are Shrinking in China
The Beijing LGBT Center has suddenly closed down with no reason given, leaving the LGBTQ community in China under increasing pressure from government crackdowns, including targeting feminist and LGBTQ activist groups. Discriminatory policies have increased, and government bodies have endorsed conversion therapy. Meanwhile, pro-natalist policies push for a “new-era” culture of marriage and childbearing. Hong Kong officials have been systematically removing books from libraries that China disapproves of since the national security law took effect in 2020, and threatening calls have been made to some Taiwanese citizens who bought a book about Chinese aggression. China’s unemployment rate for youth ages 16-24 has officially hit 20.4%, with prospects further damaged by government crackdowns on tech, education, entertainment, and gaming. The anti-corruption investigation into China’s Super League has swept up its first international star, South Korean soccer player Son Jun-Ho.

John Bolton: Foreign Leaders Think Trump Is a ‘Laughing Fool’
Former national security advisor John Bolton dismissed Donald Trump's claim that he has good relationships with foreign leaders, particularly Putin and Xi Jinping. Bolton argued that Trump is out of touch with the situation in Ukraine and that Putin would have invaded regardless of who was president. He also criticized the Biden administration's approach to Ukraine, stating that the lack of a clear American and NATO strategy is the most pressing issue. Additionally, Bolton expressed concerns about the upcoming election in Turkey, stating that an Erdoğan victory could damage the NATO alliance.

Report: Elon Musk Choosing Ad Exec as Twitter CEO Is Admitting Failure of Subscription Model
Elon Musk has appointed Linda Yaccarino as Twitter's new CEO, signaling a return to advertising-based revenue after the failure of the company's subscription model. Musk previously predicted that subscriptions, specifically the premium Twitter Blue service, would become the company's main source of income, but the service has only attracted fewer than 700,000 users in six months, far short of his projected 69 million subscribers generating $6.6 billion. Yaccarino, a former NBC Universal advertising executive, is expected to focus on making the platform more advertiser-friendly as Musk retains his roles as Twitter's executive chair and chief technology officer.

Samsung Presses Ahead With Central Bank Digital Currency Technology
Samsung and the Bank of Korea have agreed to research and develop a secure offline central bank digital currency (CBDC) transaction system for Galaxy smartphones. CBDCs are digital currencies that can be exchanged using distributed ledger technology (DLT) or blockchain, and are issued by central banks, which are looking to replace paper currency with technology as its popularity has decreased. Samsung's memorandum of understanding will prompt the partners to research ways of minimising security risks associated with offline payments and work out how to reliably transact payments in emergency situations without network connections. The world's two largest economies, China and the US, are currently in a race to develop CBDCs.

Ignore the Alarmists, Social Security Is Not Going Broke
Despite the media panic about the United States facing default on its debt, actual markets seem calm. The US Treasury collects too much revenue for there to be any freakouts, and investors will still happily buy US debt. If the US was unable to issue debt, federal entities would simply issue IOUs which would still be highly liquid. This all suggests that Social Security doesn't face any funding challenges now or in the future, as Treasury keeps adding debt and has no problem borrowing easily and cheaply.

Exclusive: Navy Intel Office Hosted Event on Inclusive Language for Trans, Nonbinary, Intersex
The US Navy's Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) hosted an Intelligence Community Pride Ally Engagement event on using inclusive language to accommodate transgender, nonbinary, and intersex individuals. The two-hour event aimed to make language more open and less exclusive and was intended to be a starting point for understanding how the language used can be more inclusive. The event was entirely voluntary, and the office's top enlisted sailor encouraged ONI staff to attend. The event comes amid controversy about the Navy's appointment of an enlisted sailor named "Harpy Daniels," a "nonbinary" drag queen, and one of its five Navy Digital Ambassadors to aid with recruitment. Ten Republican lawmakers, who are also Navy veterans, demanded information on the program and how the Navy intends to combat recruitment struggles. They criticized the Biden administration's implementation of woke policies in the US military, such as allowing transgender individuals to serve and the discouragement of gendered language.

The group is known for attending left-wing protests dressed up in mock nun outfits and advocating for anti-Catholic messages like those on abortion. CatholicVote called out the "blatantly anti-Catholic hate group" and highlighted ongoing attacks on Catholic churches, calling on the Dodgers to reconsider their decision.

Catholic Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida also criticized the Dodgers' decision to host the group, calling it an "outrage and a tragedy" and saying it would be a rebuke to faith in God and the millions of believing fans who cherish baseball.

Acquitted Pro-Life Activist Mark Houck Tells Congress FBI Raided His Home ‘To Instill Fear In Pro-Life America’
Mark Houck, a Catholic pro-life activist, testified before a House Judiciary Subcommittee about an incident where he was raided by federal and state law enforcement authorities with guns in his front yard. He was acquitted in January but was accused of violating the FACE Act, which makes it illegal to interfere, intimidate or injure someone because of their status as a reproductive health care provider. Houck argues that the FBI raided his home to “humiliate me, to scare my children, and to instill fear in pro-life America.” The hearing was intended to revisit the implications of the FACE Act and examine recent attacks on pregnancy centers, pro-life facilities as well as the Biden Administration's use of the federal statute.

American Thinker: An archeological find aligns with one of the seminal Old Testament stories
An archeological find aligns with one of the seminal Old Testament stories
Archeologists discovered a Bronze Age tablet with writing consistent with the Bible’s oldest narrative, demonstrating its historic accuracy. Deuteronomy instructs Joshua to write two tablets, one with blessings and one with curses, placing one on Mount Gerizim and the other on Mount Ebal. Following these instructions during the Bronze Age, Joshua built an altar and wrote down the law of Moses on stones. Archeologists later discovered an ancient tablet, too fragile to open, but through X-ray tomography, reconstructed the writing that said, "You are cursed by the God YHW." This proves the Bible's historic accuracy and shows its relevance still today.

“The Chocolate Soldier” (1941), a classic MGM film, stars famous mezzo-soprano Risë Stevens and operatically-trained baritone Nelson Eddy. Stevens and Eddy play Maria and Karl, musical comedy stars married and performing in the highly successful show “The Chocolate Soldier.” The story follows their bitter fighting off-stage, Karl’s fear that Maria has grown bored of performing and of being married to him, and his elaborate plan to test her fidelity, which includes disguising himself as a Russian bass singer named Vassily Vassilievitch. The score includes several songs from the operetta, as well as classical pieces and even an original song written for the film.

One actor playing two different characters in one role, Nelson Eddy stars as Karl Lang and Vassily Vassilievitch. As Karl, he is fair-haired and clean-shaven. As Vassily, he has thick black hair, a big black beard, and a chiseled facial structure. “The Chocolate Soldier” is a grand operatic film with an intriguing plot and performances that will leave a lasting impact. It’s a rare opportunity to see two classically trained singers at their best and a valuable tool for singers hoping to supplement their training by studying opera’s past greats.

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law on May 15 to provide zero-interest loans to struggling non-profit or public hospitals. Questions have been raised about Bertagnolli’s ability to serve the public independently due to these large sums of money. Some have accused her of being a “revolving door” between well-connected scientists and government positions. The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will take up Bertagnolli’s nomination, and Sen. Bernie Sanders has stated that he would oppose any health experts who were not prepared to “stand up and fight” the drug industry.

Ultra-Processed Foods Linked With Higher Rates of Depression and Anxiety: Research
Ultra-processed foods like soft drinks and fast food have been linked to a higher chance of suffering from depression, anxiety and other mental health issues such as reduction in brain adaptiveness and disruption of the microbiota-gut-brain axis, according to a new study from Deakin University in Australia. Bereft of natural ingredients, the mass-produced foods contain artificial sweeteners, emulsifiers, hydrogenated oils and fats, and are aggressively marketed even to children. Co-author Professor Michael Berk has called this a "public health crisis" and calls for public policy reform, including promoting diets rich in whole foods and restricting the advertising of junk food.
