National Review: Cheater! Cheater! &c.
Cheating is becoming more prevalent in baseball and drugs are becoming more potent.
The immigration chaos and illegality at the border have to be dealt with before U.S. policy can be formulated.
America First Report: America Is Being Invaded
The Biden administration has released nearly five million illegal immigrants into the country in less than three years, with most disappearing into communities and never appearing in court. Title 42, a policy allowing officials to turn away migrants for health concerns at the Mexico border, has ended, and some illegal immigrants are being given court dates as far out as the 2030s. Even when given court dates, many illegal immigrants use mobile apps to "check in" until their court date without ever showing up. With the pace of migration expected to increase dramatically, due to the end of Title 42, the number of illegal immigrants allowed into the country without court dates is expected to soar.

National Review: Joe Biden’s 14th Amendment Folly
President Biden is considering violating his oath of office by seizing powers not granted by the Constitution to avoid negotiating with the House of Representatives regarding the debt ceiling. The argument is based on the so-called 14th Amendment option, which allows the president to issue debt not approved by Congress, but this does not exist. This is a dangerous game of chicken, and it could lead to a default. Congress has the power to borrow money, not the executive branch. The president risks threatening the constitutional order to get what he wants, and this could have poisonous consequences.

Forbes: Combining Generative AI ChatGPT Into Handguns Triggers Fiery Response
The proposition to embed generative AI such as ChatGPT into "smart handguns" to prevent potential misuse of the weapon has sparked a lot of debate. Some argue that the AI could distinguish between proper and improper uses of the gun and dissuade or even auto-lock the weapon. However, others believe placing an AI system into life or death situations is dangerous and plagued with problems. AI Ethics and AI Law principles are also being considered to promote AI for good and avert AI for bad, as well as create new AI laws to keep AI from infringing on human rights and safety. The use of generative AI in weaponry raises questions about if it’s feasible and if it’s ethical.

National Review: Biden’s New Vehicle-Emissions Rules Need Rethinking
President Biden's proposal to reduce vehicular carbon emissions and promote electric vehicles (EVs) faces significant challenges related to the U.S.'s geopolitical relationships, environmental problems, and economic costs. Under the new rules, EVs will constitute 67% of new car purchases by 2032; however, this goal is completely unrealistic, given the U.S.'s insufficient production capacity. China currently dominates battery minerals' mining and processing for EVs, such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, which significantly restricts the U.S.'s ability to produce EVs at the scale envisioned by the administration. Furthermore, EV production necessitates six times the mineral input of conventional vehicles, adding to environmental and financial costs.
Moreover, EV batteries' e-waste time bomb and issues of massive human-rights violations during mining, such as in China and Congo, pose significant environmental risks. The production of EVs initially results in more emissions than the production of petrol cars, and grid capacity needs significant upgrading and replacing over 140,000 miles of transmission lines, which would entail spending around $2 trillion. The fiscal implications intensify infrastructure funding shortages as gas taxes, which support 84% of federal and 29% of state highway funds, would be lost. Therefore, the EPA's rules neglect drivers, power companies, environmental aspects, and geopolitical conditions' costs and may result in damaging and deadly economic and environmental hazards for the U.S.
The Economist: There are risks but also big potential benefits from digital payments
. Cyber-attacks on digital payments can create chaos and endanger financial stability. However, digital finance simplifies transactions and offers financial inclusion to underbanked people. Banks and regulators need to adapt to the new financial system to minimize these risks and maximize benefits.
New military technology is changing the way wars are fought. Drones and autonomous weapons offer advantages in efficiency and precision, but also pose threats to civilians and raise ethical concerns. Policymakers must consider the legal, ethical, and strategic implications of these new technologies to prevent unintended consequences.

Red Wave Press: FOREBODING: SPLC ‘Laying the Groundwork’ for Government to Silence Conservatives, Traditional Catholic Warns
The FBI listed traditional Catholic groups as "radical-traditional Catholic hate groups" in a memo leaked in February, allegedly based on information from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Michael J. Matt, editor of The Remnant newspaper, said the memo reminded him of the SPLC's 2007 list. The memo listed defunct groups, with influential traditional Catholic groups not on it. The SPLC has a history of listing mainstream conservative and Christian nonprofits as "hate groups" and has been accused of a "highly profitable scam" by former employees.
The SPLC listed the Society of Saint Pius X, a traditional international priestly society, as supporting antisemitism, though it welcomes any race, ethnicity, and does not espouse racial or ethnic hatred. The SPLC also brands many conservative organizations as "anti-LGBT hate groups," partly due to stances on traditional marriage. Matt argues that the SPLC's attack against traditional Catholics is due to the SPLC's mistaken belief that Vatican II was a new, progressive era for the Catholic Church, and that traditional Catholics are dangerous for accepting pre-Vatican II teachings. The FBI cited the SPLC in a memo about traditional Catholic groups allegedly promoting "hate."

American Thinker: Now Schiff Has a Health Care Law
Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA-30) has introduced the Equal Health Care for All Act, claiming it will provide equal health care for all Americans. However, this bill is flawed, as all individuals do not have the same medical needs. The bill is based on an erroneous assumption that health care disparities are caused by care providers, when socio-economic factors are in fact the main culprits. Furthermore, Schiff's bill is unconstitutional and will harm patients by reducing access to medical care.

American Thinker: How the Morlocks Seized New York
In 2023 New York City, the public response to the arrest of former Marine Sergeant Daniel Penny for manslaughter is passive, resembling the "Eloi" response to fear in H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine." The Morlocks of New York, emboldened to terrorize the Eloi due to left-leaning governance, roam free. Penny intervened when a madman threatened innocent people but was charged with manslaughter, misjudging today's culture. New Yorkers care more about political correctness than justice, and if they don't support Penny, the Morlocks will own the city.

Fox News: Chicago's new socialist-backed mayor takes office amid record-high violence, questions of what will change
Chicago's incoming mayor Brandon Johnson is set to tackle the surge in crime that has plagued the Windy City. Johnson, a former teacher, has pledged to take a new approach to public safety, focusing on community-based interventions that de-escalate conflict and reduce violence. Under outgoing mayor Lori Lightfoot, Chicago witnessed over 2,700 homicides and 14,000 shooting incidents, with a notable increase during Lightfoot’s administration. The issue of crime remains a top concern for Chicago voters, and Johnson has promised to address the root causes of crime while cracking down on criminals to bring safety and prosperity to the city.

American Thinker: Questions About the Next Democracy
Francis Fukuyama believes that liberal democracy is the final destination of politics, but alarms are ringing as the regime runs out of money and the opposition is demonized. Fukuyama believes in a strong state, rule of law, and bureaucracy run by an efficient and educated government. However, the COVID pandemic has shown that bureaucracy can be a nightmare and the Biden administration is using it to impose a climate and race agenda on America. The best way to understand what is happening is to ask questions about how to minimize politics, keep a legal system safe, and replace the bureaucratic leviathans of government pensions, healthcare, welfare, and education.
Liberty Nation: Americans Have No Confidence in Leaders on the Economy – Swamponomics
US leaders are viewed with little confidence by US adults to revive the economy. President Joe Biden tops the list, followed by leaders from both sides of Congress, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Polling firm Gallup noted that trust in leaders is lower than a year ago, with Democrats having more faith than independents and Republicans. The US government recorded a $176 billion deficit in April 2023, a surprisingly weak figure based on typical tax collections at that time of year, with the Federal Reserve predicting continued structural deficits. In better news, Robinhood's first-quarter earnings report has bettered expectations and it will introduce 24-hour trading, starting with a few users on May 17 and then opening to everyone in June.
