A reanalysis of clinical trial data showed that Pfizer and Moderna's COVID-19 vaccines did not impact overall mortality. The study found that mRNA vaccines did not affect overall mortality despite protecting against some COVID-19 deaths, while adenovirus-vector vaccines were associated with lower overall mortality. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine had a favorable impact on both COVID-19 mortality and overall mortality. The study, published ahead of peer review, noted that trial populations were largely healthy adults and that in the real world, even mRNA vaccines were expected to reduce overall mortality.
