Conservative teenagers are generally happier than their liberal counterparts, according to a study published in the journal "Social Science & Medicine - Mental Health." The study, conducted by epidemiologist Catherine Gimbrone and her team at Columbia University, found that conservative teens reported lower levels of depressive feelings, self-derogation, and loneliness and higher self-esteem than their liberal peers. This trend held true irrespective of gender among conservative teens. The study also identified a sharp rise in depressive symptoms among liberal females between 2011 and 2018, while liberal males showed a similar trend between 2005 and 2011 but tapered off by 2013.
Gimbrone’s team theorized that conservative ideology could serve as a psychological buffer, aligning an idealized worldview with the harsh realities many adolescents face, which could explain lower levels of depressive symptoms among conservative teenagers. They also suggested significant political events, like the election of a black president, the Great Recession, student debt crisis, Republicans seizing control of Congress, and Donald Trump’s 2016 victory, may have influenced liberal adolescents’ mental health. Journalist Matthew Yglesias suggested individuals dealing with anxiety or depression might be more likely to focus unproductively on problems rather than seeking solutions or acceptance. Meanwhile, New York Times Opinion Columnist David Brooks argued that many on the left have begun to experience what he termed “maladaptive sadness,” characterized by a catastrophizing mentality, extreme sensitivity to harm, and a culture of denunciation.

Pro-Russian separatists in the Luhansk People’s Republic in eastern Ukraine claimed on Friday that a building used by Russia’s armed forces had been struck by UK-supplied Shadow Storm cruise missiles in what could be the first use of the British long-range missile in an attack. The missiles were among those supplied by the UK to the Ukrainian army ahead of a widely discussed Spring counter-offensive. The move has raised concerns about the missiles being used in a strike against Russian-controlled Crimea or the mainland itself, which could trigger a broader conflict between Moscow and the West.

Reports suggest that the Biden administration continually operates as though it has been bought and paid for by the Chinese Communist Party, allowing China to dominate the US, and its response to the spy balloon being no exception. In other words, instead of punishing China for its provocative violation of US airspace and sovereignty, Blinken had his lackeys pause major human rights and trade measures.
