First at-home HPV test approved by FDA, could replace Pap smear
The FDA has approved the first at-home cervical cancer screening test, the Teal Wand, allowing women to collect samples and send them for laboratory analysis. This self-collection device aims to improve screening rates, as 86% of participants in a trial preferred home testing.

The Teal Wand detects HPV, the virus responsible for most cervical cancer cases, and has shown a 96% accuracy rate in trials. The product includes telehealth support, and women testing positive for HPV will be referred for traditional Pap smears. The test will first be available in California starting in June.
