GB News: Elderly drivers encouraged to join police scheme checking motoring ability amid major road concerns
Elderly drivers encouraged to join police scheme checking motoring ability amid major road concerns
West Mercia Police and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service are launching free virtual reality sessions for elderly drivers to enhance road safety. The initiative aims to educate older motorists on how aging affects their driving skills, using VR technology to simulate challenges like impaired vision and reduced mobility.

The "Keep Driving VR" program will run from June to October across the West Midlands, allowing participants to engage in discussions without formal assessments. This effort is part of the West Mercia Safer Communities Plan, which seeks to reduce road fatalities and injuries among drivers aged 70 and older.
