GB News: Archaeology breakthrough as researchers uncover hundreds of skeletons in centuries-old grave site beneath a Debenhams
Archaeologists have discovered the remains of an 18th-century church and over 300 skeletons beneath a former Debenhams store in Gloucester, as part of redevelopment for the University of Gloucestershire's City Campus. The site, once part of a Roman town, revealed significant finds including the footing of St Aldate's Church and Roman artifacts.
The excavation also uncovered a cobbled street surface, medieval and post-medieval burials, and fragments of church windows dating back to the 14th century. Experts emphasize the site's importance for understanding Gloucester's rich archaeological history.
