The UK Border Force has made a significant change in its operations by discontinuing the use of its cutters, originally designated for handling small boats in the Channel. This change has gone unnoticed, but it is noteworthy. The cutters have been replaced by private catamarans, a decision that comes with a substantial financial burden on the taxpayers, estimated to be around £36 million annually. Surprisingly, last year, the cutters were not utilized at all, leaving the responsibility of addressing small boats in the Channel to the catamarans and the RNLI.
