Forbes: Trump Has Racked Up Nearly $40 Million In Legal Fees Since His First Indictment
Former President Donald Trump's legal fees for criminal and civil cases have reached nearly $40 million since his first indictment in March 2023, with the majority of the expenses being covered by his leadership PAC, Save America. The PAC spent $38.9 million on legal consulting and other legal-related services in 2023, compared to $8.4 million spent in the first three months of that year. Save America has $5.1 million in cash as it enters 2024, when Trump is expected to face multiple trials.
Save America PAC raised $52.3 million in 2023, with the majority of the funds coming from small-dollar donors and transfers from Trump's other PACs and campaign. The source of a recent $1 million donation from hotel magnate Robert Bigelow is unclear, as PAC regulations typically limit donations to $5,000. Financing Trump's personal legal fees through PAC money is a legally questionable area, but experts believe Trump is unlikely to face prosecution due to lax enforcement.
