Felix Meletz Guarcas, a 45-year-old Guatemalan man living illegally in the U.S., was arrested in Rhode Island for sexually assaulting a child after being released from local custody despite an immigration detainer request from ICE. Local authorities did not hold him as requested.
ICE stated that they intended to take him into custody but were forced to arrest him in a public parking lot due to his release to home confinement. Guarcas is currently in ICE custody facing multiple charges related to the sexual assault.
