'The reformist left has breathed new life into itself, at the cost of obvious internal tensions'
The reformist left's separation from Jean-Luc Mélenchon marks a significant shift in French politics. A majority of Parti Socialiste MPs chose not to support a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister François Bayrou, asserting their autonomy from Mélenchon’s influence.

Socialist leaders emphasized the need for constructive dialogue over threats, with former president François Hollande claiming the Socialists are now essential to governance until 2027. This decision reflects a broader desire within the PS to prioritize national interests over Mélenchon's directives.
