Fox News: Hunter Biden lawyer testifies that 1st Trump impeachment created 'emergency' to file unpaid taxes
Kevin Morris, Hunter Biden's lawyer, testified that the first impeachment of former President Trump in February 2020 made it urgent for Hunter to file his tax returns. Morris cited "political risk" amid the election cycle as the reason for the urgency. He mentioned that Republicans had threatened to call Hunter to testify during the impeachment process. The political concerns were not related to Joe Biden's candidacy for the White House.
Morris also admitted that he loaned Hunter Biden at least $5 million and began paying his tax liability. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer believes this was an attempt to shield Joe Biden from political liability. The loans provided by Morris may be forgiven and do not have to be repaid until 2025. Hunter Biden was under federal investigation at the time of the impeachment trial due to suspicious foreign transactions. Republicans were investigating his business dealings with Ukrainian gas firm Burisma Holdings.
