GB News: Soldier, 20, killed friend in crash just 3 weeks after passing driving test
Joseph Pickett, a 20-year-old soldier, has admitted to causing death by careless driving after a crash that killed 18-year-old Laionie Kennard. Driving at speeds between 43mph and 54mph on a 30mph road, Pickett lost control of his BMW while returning from McDonald's with friends.
Kennard suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The case has sparked calls for stricter regulations for newly qualified drivers, with her parents advocating for graduated driving licenses to prevent inexperienced drivers from carrying passengers immediately after passing their tests.
