Residents of Yemassee, South Carolina, were warned to secure their homes after 43 rhesus macaque monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis testing facility. The police advised against approaching the animals and urged residents to call 911 if spotted.
Authorities are using thermal imaging and setting traps to locate the monkeys, which are described as skittish and weigh around 6 to 7 pounds. Alpha Genesis confirmed the monkeys are too young for testing and do not carry diseases.
