55% of Americans think New Year's resolutions are outdated. Millennials are the most over them. Over half give up by March. Only 5% stick to resolutions for a year. Reasons for failure include feeling pressured, not creating lasting change, and feeling like a chore. 43% have broken resolutions, with millennials being the most likely. The top reasons for not sticking to resolutions are lack of motivation, changing priorities, and forgetting. Even though resolutions are seen as unrealistic, 52% of respondents are still interested in setting goals. The most common resolutions are related to general health and food. General health and food resolutions are also the most difficult to stick to. Gen Z focuses on money resolutions, millennials on food, Gen Xers and baby boomers on general health. This year, 51% will set food-related resolutions for 2024, with 73% feeling motivated to improve their diet. Seven in 10 want to take a different approach to resolutions. They want to set smaller, more realistic goals. 48% want to eat healthier, 35% want to consume less sugar, and 28% want to incorporate more vitamins and nutrients into their diet. They would make healthier choices if it's affordable, tastes good, and fits into their lifestyle. 24% find it difficult to find healthy options that their entire household enjoys.
