Indexes that increased include rent, owners' equivalent rent, motor vehicle insurance, medical care, recreation, and personal care, while indexes that declined include lodging away from home, used cars and trucks, communications, and airline fares. The core CPI index rose by 4.0% over the 12 month period, providing hope that the Federal Reserve will not raise interest rates.
