Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas will endorse former President Donald Trump for their party's 2024 nomination. They will meet near the U.S.-Mexico border to serve tamales to troopers and guardsmen. Trump is the front-runner with Gov. Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley in distant second. The issue of illegal immigration and border security will be in the spotlight. Trump plans to launch a mass deportation effort, reinstate travel bans, and end automatic citizenship for children born to immigrants who entered illegally. Abbott has sparred with the Biden administration over border security. The Texas legislature passed a controversial measure allowing state law enforcement officials to arrest suspected undocumented migrants.

Tarshis is seeking unspecified damages for assault, battery, emotional distress, and false imprisonment.
