Fox News: MRI machine traps nurse in freak accident
The California Department of Public Health has found that a medical center in Redwood City operated by Kaiser Permanente failed to provide radiologic services in a safe manner after a nurse was injured in an MRI accident. The nurse, Ainah Cervantes, suffered "crushing injuries" when the magnetic force of the MRI machine pulled a hospital bed towards it, pinning her against the machine. The investigation revealed several missteps leading up to the incident, including the absence of MRI personnel in the room and failure to screen anyone entering the room or close the door. The incident breached several of Kaiser's MRI safety policies, and the hospital is now facing an $18,000 fine from Cal/OSHA.
