Five former students of the University of Michigan, all from China, are charged with espionage after spying on a National Guard training center during a Taiwanese military operation. In August 2023, they were confronted and later discovered to have deleted incriminating evidence. Now at large, they are believed to have returned to China, raising alarms about threats from the "far right" and "progressive" lawmakers regarding espionage.

In a separate event, a shooting near Tennessee State University in Nashville resulted in one death and nine injuries. The police reported that the scene is secure, and victims have been taken to local hospitals. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with updates expected soon.
