We’ve told you about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis calling out his own Republican legislature for not creating a tough enough bill in his special session to deal with aiding President Trump’s mass deportation and immigration enforcement in the state. DeSantis has threatened to veto the bill because it is too weak. He wants to compel local cities and territories within the state to aid these mass deportations or suffer stiff penalties.
Yesterday the legislature decided to target the governor with an email blast to residents, telling them they worked with law enforcement on this and to call DeSantis and urge him to stand with President Trump and sign the Trump Act:
Last night the Florida Department of Law Enforcement called out the legislature for lying in the email, saying they were never contacted by the legislature at any point to help with the legislation:
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was not contacted at any point during this process to provide input regarding the Legislature’s immigration legislation. We play a critical role in immigration enforcement in this state and would have been happy to help create the strongest immigration legislation possible.
Wow. The legislature just needs to do what DeSantis has asked them to do and be done with it, because they are looking worse and worse as this continues.
I would have thought in Florida this would have been easy. But clearly, just like in Washington, there are Republican squishes everywhere. DeSantis has already reportedly warned that he will “fund primary challenges” to replace these squishes with more conservative Republicans. Clearly that needs to happen.
