The White House actually sent a letter to the WHCA telling reporters how to cover the Special Counsel’s damaging report about Biden.
They claimed the report is “written in a confusing, meandering way.”
Here’s more from Daily Mail:
A top White House official wrote a letter to the White House Correspondents’ Association informing reporters how to cover Special Counsel Robert Hur’s damning classified documents report.
The report, released last Thursday, said 81-year-old President Joe Biden had ‘diminished faculties’ and that a jury would likely find him a ‘sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.’
In the letter, White House spokesperson Ian Sams complained how headlines said Biden ‘willfully retained’ classified information, when the report should have said ‘some’ evidence was found and the evidence eventually ‘refuted willful retention or diclosure.’
Sams told reporters that he understood their jobs are ‘difficult’ – as was the report to get through.
‘It is nearly 400 pages long and written in a confusing, meandering way,’ Sams said. ‘It is not straightforward.’
What’s interesting is that the WHCA rejected it out of hand, claiming that they won’t carry the water for the government:
The current president of the WHCA, NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell, wrote back to members saying that Sams’ letter was ‘misdirected.’
‘As a non-profit organization that advocates for its members in their efforts to cover the presidency, the WHCA does not, cannot and will not serve as a repository for the government’s views of what’s in the news. The White House has far reach to make its positions known on the Hur report or any other matter,’ O’Donnell said.
‘The White House has the contact information for every bureau chief, editor and reporter covering the beat, and should reach out to them directly with any concerns about their editorial decision-making,’ she continued. ‘In its 110-year history, our association has never controlled or policed the journalism that is published or broadcast by our members or their employers.’
That’s amazing given how they so readily carry the water of Democrats. Now I guess she’s trying to protect the WHCA or something, but reporters have been carrying the water for Biden since he started running.
Case in point on this very issue:
As an aside, Hur will testify before Congress next month:
