The Secret Service chief was asked directly by CNN if she had increased every element of Trump’s security apparatus, from the advance team to the operation team.
Kim Cheatle refused to answer the question directly, giving the kind of answer you will probably hear her give on Monday when she’s being pressed by Congress.
Cheatle said “What we increased was what we felt was appropriate for the former president and for that particular event on that day. We have been increasing the assets and the resources and the staffing that we have been providing to the former president since he was a presidential candidate and then the presumptive nominee. That’s what I can tell you.””
CNN pressed her saying “That sounds like a no.”
Cheatle responded “I am not saying a no at all. I’m saying that we have continued to increase the resources that we’ve been providing.”
While we’re on the topic of Cheatle, I’ll share this with you from MSN (thanks to a commenter):
Before this weekend, did you know who was running the Secret Service? Her name is Kimberly Cheatle. She’s a longtime veteran of the agency and a former PepsiCo security exec who got the job almost two years ago, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to her official bio, she’s “responsible for successfully executing the agency’s integrated mission of protection and investigations by leading a diverse workforce composed of more than 7,800” special agents and other personnel.
Cheatle worked with the Bidens during Biden’s vice presidency. She took over the Secret Service following another scandal: its preparedness for the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.
Cheatle has been pushing the agency to hire more women and is focusing on DEI hires.
Mark Levin pointed out this morning that Cheatle was chosen for the job by Jill Biden. That should tell you everything you need to know.
