Last night Senator John Thune, the new leader of the Senate beginning in January, was on Special Report and he confirmed to Bret Baier that recess appointments are on the table for President Trump.
When asked what the threshold is for allowing recess appointments, he suggested it amounted to whether Democrats want to play ball or not.
Thune said he hopes to have many of these nominees confirmed by the time President-elect Trump is sworn in, meaning he wants to move fast. But if Democrats try and stall the process, I think that’s when he’s suggesting recess appointments become a reality.
Watch below:
My only question is if Thune can actually recess the Senate with some Democrat remaining there to keep it from recessing, thereby preventing Trump from appointing his nominees. I guess he can do it but I can’t remember the rules related to a Senate recess.
